Ch.3 - A Fight Of Dinosaurs

Akæna~

I glanced back to see a large carnotaurus enter the little clearing and I saw the boys running after me. I sighed, maybe we'll live...

But my glance was to long and I tripped over a stone, I scraped my knee in several bloody places. It stung like being bit by a vilocirapter and, trust me, I know first hand what that feels like. I tried to stand but my feet were tangled in my cloak, oh no! No, no, no!

I felt arms grabbed mine and I was lifted up, I looked over and saw both Mikado and Zenix dragging me. Thankfully, as they moved me, my feet untangled themselves from my cloak. I still held my spear but I was, honestly, afraid to turn and fight. I've fought pterodactyls, tricerotopses, rapters of all kinds, and even a T-rex one time but the sight of the carnotaurus' opened jaws and razor sharp teeth unnerved me, somehow.

I began running along with the boys, they still held my arms though. I ripped myself from their grasps and ran faster, toward the trees. If we could just get into the undergrowth we could throw it off.

Then the ground shook so hard that it flung us to the ground. I looked up to see another carnotaurus charging toward us, though it had it's eyes locked on the one behind us.

I glanced back and realization struck me: the carnotauruses were fighting! We have to move and fast! I jumped up and grabbed the boys' shirts and leapt away. I only made it a few feet before I fell and all hell broke loose behind us, I could hear the snarls and growls and whimpers of the two clashing dinosaurs. I was terrified, I had never even thought of this happening and now...

I buried my head in the grass and breathed heavily, all my stupid ears could focus on was the sounds of the prehistoric fighting that was happening behind us. Everything else blurred out except a small voice that kept saying my name. Then a horrible sight filled my closed eyes, it was a sight of me being eaten by the winner of the fight. My eyes flew open and I jumped up, despite my exhaustion, there was only one thought going through my head: fight or flight. Stay and fight or run and hide. Death or life. My brows furrowed and I dashed past two familiar looking boys who were yelling a name.... My name...

"Akæna! Stop! Akæna, where are you going?!"

Time seemed to slow as I was thrown upwards by one of the carnotaurus' tail. I watched as the ground shrunk then began to grow again. My heart went a million miles per second as I thought of what would happen when I hit the ground. The two boys... Mikado and Zenix? They were yelling something but I didn't hear them as the wind rushed my ears.

Am I going to die? Will I never fulfill Eve's warning? What about the... My train of thoughts died when I saw the tricerotops. The one we saved. It was charging towards the boys and towards where I was about to hit the ground.

I pulled my hands up in prayer before sealing my eyes shut and hoping I lived. There was a painful blow to my shin then the wind was knocked from my lungs. The only other pain was a deep throbbing in my head but I think it was from falling.

I open my eyes to see my limbs entangled with the tricerotops' horns. Did it save me???

Mikado and Zenix darted over to me, helping me down from the tricertops.

I gave a sigh and said "thank you" to all three of them, including the tricerotops. Then a loud roar sounded from behind us, we turned around to see that the carnotaurus that had chased us was tearing away at the other one. Which was dead.

"We gotta go," Zenix whispered quickly as both he and Mikado started backing away. The tricerotops rumbled and followed them curiously.

"No, stay, stay." I told it, I pointed at the ground and stared at it sternly. The dino only tilted it's head and took a step forward while the victor carnotaurus sniffed the air as if realizing we were still there.

"Forget about it! Just come on, Akæna!" One of the boys yelled at me and kept tugging at my cloak, finally I gave in and followed them toward home.

I could feel the vibrations from the tricerotops as it followed us toward the lake and I could hear the carnivore's screech of victory. We just kept running and running until we met the small spot of trees before emerging onto the shore. I was relieved as we met the four men, something about them being so big and buff made me feel safe.

"What's wrong? Why do you look as if you saw a ghost?" Chris questioned us with concern edging his voice.

"Ghost?" I asked him as we stopped in front of him. "What's a ghost?"

"Two meat eaters faught in front of us and almost ate us!" The boys explained while I was still confused.

"But what's a ghost?!"

"Nevermind. Also, what's that?" The man asked, indicating, with a stubby finger, the tricertops that had followed us to the lake.

"His name is Tri." Mikado answered quickly as he sat down with a relieved sigh.

"Still, what's a ghost?" I insisted until they gave in and told me. Apparently a ghost was a dead human that haunted living humans. That made so little sense but I didn't want to argue so I dropped it.

When I sat I finally felt the burning pain that was tracing my tired legs and I almost choked in shock but I was able to stay calm.

The tricerotops, that Mikado named Tri, was sleeping heavily near the cool water. It-he seemed so calm and relaxed with us and it warmed my heart to know that he stayed with us.

-

Awesome, right? Well, anyways, so how ya like Tri?
