Ch. 3 Sea Patrol: Pups Stop A Murderous Shark (Part 1)
Reacting quickly, Chase grabbed the Merpup and jumped out of the way, just as the shark landed in the spot they were standing in. With the Merpup on his back, Chase backed away from the shark, which was now beached on the sand.
"Phew! That was close," Chase said in relief.
"en te nrehe tuuirny o mdoesot!" The Merpup spoke in a frantic yet exhausted tone, but Chase couldn't understand anything it said. "I'm sorry, but I can't understand you." He said.
The Merpup let out a frustrated sigh. It then gave Chase a small peck on the cheek. Chase looked at the Merpup in bewilderment. However, he felt something strange flow through his body. It wasn't big but it was noticeable enough to know something had happened.
"Uh... What?" Chase said confused. "What was that-"
"There's no time! You need to run!" The Merpup exclaimed in a high-pitched feminine voice.
Chase was even more confused until he heard a loud thud. He turned back to see the beached shark crawling and flopping its way to them quickly. Chase began to run as the shark chased after them. The shark was surprisingly quick despite it being on land.
"I have so many questions right now, but I'll stick to the obvious! Why is that shark chasing you?" Chase asked the Merpup.
"That shark has been terrorizing us Merpups for days. Normally a shark wouldn't dare swim near Puplantis, but this one's different. It's possessed," The Merpup explained to him.
"Possessed?" Chase said in shock.
The Merpup nodded. "I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. We Merpups have the ability to sense dark energy. And that shark has plenty of it. Just look at its eyes."
Chase looked back toward the shark. He could see a purple aura surrounding both of its eyes.
"I believe you," Chase said, now looking back forward. "Ok, so if it's possessed how do we stop it?"
"I've seen this type of possession before. It mainly raises the rage of the possessed person or animal. If we can get the shark in a calm state, the dark energy should leave its body," The Merpup explained.
"Calming a possessed shark..." Chase repeated to himself. "Not the strangest thing I've done in my life, but it's up there. I can help you, but I can't do it alone. I need the rest of the Paw Patrol."
"I knew you looked familiar!" The Merpup exclaimed, now realizing who Chase was. "Can't you call them with you pup-thingies?"
"It's pup tag. And if I had it I would, but I don't," Chase said. He suddenly had an idea. "But I can call them from the Beach Tower." Chase looked around for the Beach Tower, but it was nowhere near him. He then looked back. Past the shark, he could see the Beach Tower on the other side of the beach. The only way to get there was to get past the land-crawling possessed shark.
"Ok, I'm turning around," Chase announced.
"Excuse me? Do you not see the shark behind you?!" The Merpup exclaimed.
"It's the only way to get to the Beach Tower. So hold on tight," Chase stopped in his tracks and began running towards the shark. The shark saw Chase and the Merpup coming towards them. It made a lunge toward them, but Chase was prepared. Chase jumped up, avoiding the shark's mouth and landing on its back. He then ran down its back and jumped off, landing back on the soft sand. He continued to run as fast as he could to get away from the shark.
The shark tried to follow, but it was struggling to turn around. It flopped its way back to the water, waiting for the next moment to strike. Nothing was going to stop it from killing them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hurry, Robo-Dog! We're going to be late!"
"Arf! Arf!"
Robo-Dog shook its head, indicating that it was driving the Paw Patroller at the speed limit and wouldn't go any faster. Ryder sighed in frustration, as well as everyone else.
"I can't believe we all woke up late! Again!" Everest exclaimed.
"I never thought I would hate sleeping in so much," Wildcat said.
"Man, how does Chase do it?" Zuma wondered, knowing Chase could wake up early and on time without an alarm clock.
"Oh, I hope Chase doesn't think we forgot about him," Skye said worriedly.
"Don't worry, Skye. We might get there in time. Hopefully..." Ryder said with a gulp.
It wasn't until a few minutes later that they finally arrived at the train station. At that moment, the train had just arrived as well. They all quickly exited the Paw Patroller and made their way onto the station platform.
"Phew, just made it," Ryder said in relief.
"Dude, talk about lucky," Zuma stated.
Passengers began to exit the train. The team waited for the German Shepherd to appear. But he never did.
"Ryder, I don't see Chase anywhere," Marshall said.
"He must be around here somewhere," Ryder said. "This is the only train to come from Adventure Bay."
Before anything else was said, someone was loudly yelling Ryder's name. "RYDER!" They yelled. The team turned to see that it was Katie who was calling out for them. She held Cali in one arm and held her suitcase in the other. She stopped just right in front of them. "There you are! I've been trying to call you for the past 5 minutes!" She exclaimed.
"Call?" Ryder felt around for his pup pad but realized he didn't have it. "Oh, no. I must've left it back at the Lookout."
"Never mind that," Katie said. "We've got bigger problems. Chase needs your help."
The Paw Patrol was shocked when Katie brought up Chase. They all began to worry.
"What's wrong with Chase?" Skye asked in worry.
"He jumped off the train," Katie revealed. They all gasped. "He said he could feel something wrong happening at the beach near the pier. I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen."
"If Chase could tell something was wrong, then it must be serious," Ryder said. "We got no time to waste. Paw Patrol, to the Paw Patroller!"
"Ryder needs us!"
The pups and cat all ran back towards the Paw Patroller. Ryder followed, but before he could get far, Katie stopped him.
"One more thing," Katie began. "Last night, when Cali got too close to Chase, he sneezed like normal. But this time he sneezed out blood."
"Blood?!" Ryder said in shock. "That's not good. He shouldn't be sneezing blood."
"After you help him, can you please bring him to my Pet Parlor? I'm worried about him and I want to make sure he's ok," Katie told him.
"Don't worry, Katie. We'll bring him back safe and sound," Ryder promised. With that, he raced off. Leaving Katie by herself with Cali once again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryder quickly boarded the Paw Patroller and took his seat. Everyone else was waiting for him, already in their uniforms. Normally the Paw Patroller only seated eight passengers. The six main pups, Ryder, and Robo-Dog. But due to additional members joining in, more seats were installed to fit everyone inside, including a special seat for Rex and his wheelchair.
"Robo-Dog. Head towards the beach. Fast!" Ryder commanded.
"Arf Arf!" Barked Robo-Dog as he got the Paw Patroller rolling. Ryder then opened up a small compartment in front of him. Inside were two Pup Pads. A regular one and a smaller one that had a wrist strap. Ryder put on the smaller one and turned it on.
"Alright, everyone. We all know why we're here," Ryder started. He brought down the big screen in the back, to which everyone turned to face. A cartoon graphic began to play on the screen. "Katie told us Chase has jumped off the train and ran toward Adventure Bay Beach." The graphic showed Chase jumping off the train, sliding downhill, and running toward a beach. Everyone was worried and confused. It wasn't like Chase to do something so reckless.
"What could cause him to jump off a moving train? That's not like Chase at all," Wildcat meowed with worry.
"I'm not sure," Ryder said puzzled. "But whatever it was, it was urgent to make him do something so dangerous."
Suddenly, Rocky had an idea. "Hey, he was going to the beach, why not use the Beach Tower's periscope to see what's going on."
"It's a good idea..." Ryder stated. "But the Beach Tower is in lockdown. I won't be able to access the telescope until I turn it off manually."
"But that means Chase can't call for help or get his gear either," Liberty said.
Ryder nodded. "We're going into this completely blind, so we'll just have to improvise." Ryder scrolled to Marshall's Pup Tag on his Pup Pad. "Marshall, I need you to be ready with your E.M.T. gear and your ambulance to take Chase straight to Katie's. She told me he was sneezing blood last night, so he may be injured.
"Ready for a Ruff Ruff Rescue!" Marshall said, in a more serious tone than usual.
Ryder then selected Skye. "Skye, I'll need you to use your Sea Plane to search for Chase from above. And since you're more likely to find him first, I want you to give him this."
Ryder reached into his back pocket and pulled out a black collar with Chase's Pup Tag attached to it. He tossed it over to the cockapoo, who promptly caught it in her mouth and set it beside herself.
"On it, Ryder. This pups gotta fly!" Skye cheered.
Ryder let out a small smile and turned his attention to everyone. "I'm going to need everyone's help with this. No matter what, we must bring Chase home safely."
Everyone cheered with howls and meows in agreement. They were all ready to help their friend, no matter how dangerous the situation was. Ryder smiled at them, he couldn't have asked for a better team.
"Alright! Paw Patrol is on a roll!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back at the beach, Chase continued to sprint towards the Beach Tower. The Merpup on his back continued to hold onto him. She was impressed by the bravery and athleticism Chase had, but she could tell that something was off. His pace was slowing and his breathing was increasing rapidly. This wasn't because of him running. No, this was something else. And she had a feeling she was sitting right on top of it.
Despite this, the two finally arrived at the Beach Tower. Chase ran towards the entrance but found himself stopped when the doors didn't open.
"Shoot! The Beach Tower must be in lockdown," Chase said aloud.
"Why lockdown a rescue building?" The Merpup asked puzzled.
"It's for security reasons. Don't want anyone stealing our equipment again," Chase told her. He remembered when Sid The Pirate, Arrby, and four crabs hijacked their pup houses. They were fortunate they didn't steal his. Otherwise, they may have never stopped him. "I should be able to get this open. Watch..." He said. "Ruff! Activate Beach Tower!"
Chase waited for the doors to open. It didn't. Instead, a loud buzz came from the tower.
"Voice unrecognized. This is your first warning," Said a robotic voice.
"What?!" Exclaimed Chase. "That's odd. How can it not recognize me?"
"Maybe you should say please?" Twitch suggested.
Chase rolled his eyes. "Let me try again. Ruff! Activate Beach Tower!"
Once again, the Beach Tower let out a loud buzz.
"Voice unrecognized. Police Pup Chase has been alerted! This is your last warning!"
"But I'm Chase..." Chase said with a defeated sigh. 'Ryder put a voice recognition system years ago for situations like this. Though, I guess it has been a while. It probably doesn't recognize my voice anymore.' He thought to himself.
"Chase?" The Merpup thought aloud. Until now, she had never known Chase's name. "That's cute!"
Chase looked at her, puzzled. "Huh?"
"You have a cute name! I'm Twitch by the way!" The Merpup, now known as Twitch said, introducing herself. "Though, that's what I preferred to be called. My real name is Krista, but that sounds boring to me. Twitch sounds much more unique. Y'know?"
"Yeah, I get it..." Chase replied. He still found it strange that he was having a conversation with a Merpup. The only form of translation they had was Cap'n Turbot, who seemed to be the only one in the world to understand the Merpup language.
"So now what?" Twitch asked, unsure of what to do next.
"I don't know," Chase replied. He began walking away from the Beach Tower doors and towards the shore. "Since the Beach Tower can't recognize my voice, I won't be able to contact the rest of the Paw Patrol. Let alone use any equipment I have."
"So... we're in trouble?" Twitch asked fearfully.
"Not yet," Chase said. "We need to think of a plan to stop this shark," He walked up to the edge of the shore, the water just barely splashing over his paws. Twitch then jumped off of his back and into the water. Seconds later, she resurfaced in front of him.
"What do you need to know?" Twitch asked.
"The start. Where did this shark come from? And how did it become possessed?" Chase asked.
"I can't answer why it became possessed," Twitch started. "But the shark first appeared a few days ago. It chases any Merpup it sees, completely ignoring anything else around it."
"Hmm..." Chase murmured. "How long has it been chasing you?"
"Three days," Twitch replied, much to Chase's surprise. Twitch could see the shock on his face and began to explain. "It's not that bad. Merpups can stay awake for multiple days without rest."
"But still... Three days?! That's insane!" Chase exclaimed. "But that also means the shark has been going for three days straight. How can we calm something down with that high of energy?"
Twitch then had an idea. "Oh! Maybe we can get a shark guru to tame the shark! Or we can gather all its predators to jump the shark at once! Taking it down for good!" She proclaimed as if she had a personal vengeance against the shark.
Chase stared at her blankly. "You... really don't like sharks... Do you?"
"Are you kidding? I hate sharks! They're so scary..." Twitch stated with an obvious tone of fear in her voice. Suddenly, her eyes and the markings around them changed color, changing from a sapphire blue to purple. Chase was taken aback by the change and became worried.
"Are you ok? You changed colors?" Chase asked.
"Oh, it's nothing. Sometimes I change colors depending on how I'm feeling," Twitch told him. "Purple means I'm scared of something. Usually, it's because of a shark. And orcas, squids, octopuses, giant clams... I get scared a lot, ok! Which is why we should kill it and get rid of its species!"
"No! We cannot kill the shark. It's an endangered species. Besides we don't even have the equipment to kill one," Chase told her.
"Hmph! Fine... But don't blame me when you end up smelling its stinky fish breath. Blech!" She pouted, showing her disgust toward the shark.
Chase couldn't help but laugh a bit. His first impressions of Twitch were very positive. She was full of energy and very silly. He had never gotten to interact with a Merpup as much as he was with her and he wanted to know her better. But he knew now wasn't the time to. They still had to deal with the shark trying to kill her. "We need to calm down the shark, but neither of us knows how to... Perhaps we need someone who does know how to calm a shark. Someone like-"
"A shark god!"
"Yes- Wait- No! A Marine Biologist," Chase told her.
"A marine whatsit?" Twitch said confused, not knowing what it was.
"Someone who studies marine life and their habitat. If anyone knows how to calm a shark, it's one of them," Chase said.
"But where would we find one of these Marine biologists?" Twitch asked.
"I know one that lives at a lighthouse. But I can't get there without my speed raft. And it's too far to swim there," Chase sighed. His head lowered as he began to think of a plan. Until...

Chase's head shot back up when the clicking returned. His eyes darted towards the sea. There he could see a large fin poking above the surface, approaching them fast. He began to growl. Twitch also noticed the fin, sensing the dark energy coming closer and closer to them. Her heart skipped a beat and her colors changed to purple as she saw the large fin in the water.
The shark was back.
"I-I-It's b-back!" Twitch stuttered in fear.
"Then we don't have much time. Follow me," Chase said. He began to jog along the shoreline, Twitch following him in the water. The shark turned in their direction.
"W-What do we do?" Twitch asked, getting more scared by the second.
"Stall. The two of us alone can't stop this shark. We need to wait for the Paw Patrol to come," Chase told her. "My friend Katie should've alerted them by now, so it won't be long until they get here. But until then, just run!"
Twitch nodded. Chase then broke into a dead sprint, with Twitch keeping pace with him. The shark kept in pursuit. It started getting closer and closer to Twitch.
"Twitch, you need to swim faster and get away!" Chase yelled as he could see the shark getting too close to her.
"I... I can't!" Twitch exclaimed. She struggled to go any faster than she was. The countless days of running away were starting to get to her.
Chase knew he had to do something fast, otherwise, Twitch was shark bait. His eyes landed on the shark's large dorsal fin. In a desperate move, Chase jumped towards the shark and grabbed its fin. The shark then suddenly changed direction. It began swimming out to the open sea and dove down, dragging Chase along with him.
Twitch, who was getting extremely exhausted, noticed the shark's dark energy getting further away. She came to a halt and turned around. The shark was gone and so was Chase.
"Oh, no!" She said worriedly. Turning back into her normal blue, Twitch dove down and began to follow the dark energy trailing away from her.
The shark began to swim wildly, as it if lost control of itself. Chase hung on for dear life as the shark moved in an unpredictable pattern. It went left, then suddenly right, then down, spinning on its side, and right again.
'This was a terrible idea...' Chase thought to himself, realizing the predicament he put himself in. The shark then made a sudden descent down, straight toward a coral reef. Chase quickly let go of the shark's fin as it plunged into the reef. Chase could feel everything shake around him at the moment of impact. Once it calmed down, Chase saw that the shark had gotten itself stuck in a large hole it at made. But he knew it would get out eventually. He used this chance to swim back up to the surface. However, quickly realized that he wasn't going up.
He was sinking.
'What the...' Chase began to take big strides, hoping he would start going up. But he continued to sink. He began to panic. He hadn't gotten a good breath before being dragged into the ocean and was running out of breath. Luckily, Twitch had arrived just in time. She saw Chase trying and failing to swim up. She quickly grabbed him and began to bring him up. But the moment she did, she immediately noticed something off.
Chase was heavy.
At that moment, it all came together for her. "So that's why!" She exclaimed. Chase looked at her, confused as to what she was talking about. Twitch quickly brought Chase up to the surface. The german shepherd took a big gasp of air as Twitch helped keep him afloat. Chase realized that the shark had dragged him far away from the beach, but it was still within his eyesight.
"Thanks," He said to her. "What were you talking about?"
"When you were carrying me on land," Twitch began. "I noticed you were getting tired way too quickly. But now I know why. You're really heavy!"
Chase was surprised by this. "Heavy? I shouldn't weigh more than sixty pounds."
"That's around the weight of a female sea otter. But you weigh as much as a giant clam!" Twitch exclaimed. "I think it's that black thing you're wearing."
"Black thing?" Chase looked down. He noticed the heavy black vest he was wearing. "What the- Where did this come from?"
"You mean you didn't notice?" Twitch asked in shock. "You've been wearing that thing the entire time. How have you not noticed it?"
"I'm... not sure," Chase said. He looked for a way to take it off. But the vest had no zipper and it was wrapped around him too tight to squeeze out of. "I don't think I can take it off. Hell, I don't even know how I got it on."
"Let me try," Twitch put her paws around the neck hole of the vest and began trying to split it apart. To Chase's surprise, Twitch was breaking the vest apart. He was surprised at how strong she was. The outer covering was ripping and the material inside was breaking. But she didn't get far as her strength quickly faded away.
"I'm sorry..." She apologized sadly. "If I wasn't so tired, I could break it apart no problem."
"Don't worry about it. You did your best," Chase told her. Hearing that made Twitch feel a little less sad. "We need to think of something fast before that shark gets itself out again."
Twitch thought for a moment until she thought of something. "I know! Bubble Barrier!"
Chase was confused. "Bubble Barrier?"
"You know... this!" Twitch held out her paw as a bubble the size of a soccer ball appeared. She threw the bubble at Chase. In an instant, Chase was enclosed inside a large bubble. His entire body rose above the surface as he now stood above the water. He looked at it in disbelief. He had no clue Merpups had this kind of ability.
"That bubble around you is nearly invincible and will keep you above the surface. The shark won't be able to hurt you as long as you stay inside," Twitch explained to him. "Though... I don't know how long it'll last. But I can easily make a new one."
Chase was impressed. "I didn't know Merpups could do this."
"They can't," Twitch said. "Only I can do this. Don't tell anyone though, it's a secret," She giggled.
"Wow..." Her strength was already amazing enough, but this was a whole new level of amazing. But then something came across his mind. "Wait, why didn't you use this earlier?"
Twitch rubbed the back of her head with a sheepish grin. "I... lose my powers when I'm scared. And I can't really move around in the bubble when I'm inside. Meaning you probably can't move around either.
"Huh..." Chase said. "Well, at least it won't hurt me, I guess."
"So... any other ideas that doesn't require you grabbing a shark's fin like an idiot?" Twitch bluntly asked.
"Yeah, bad idea. I know," Chase admitted. He was starting to think of a new plan until he saw something in the distance. Back a the beach, a big silver, blue, and red truck was approaching. A giant paw on a shield and the number 8 were shown on its side.
It was the PAW Patrol.
"Perfect!" He said. "Twitch, do you see that big truck back there?" He asked pointing behind her. Twitch looked back and saw what Chase was pointing as. She turned back and nodded. "The rest of the Paw Patrol are riding inside. I need you to swim back there and let them know what's happening."
Twitch nodded. "Got it," She began to swim away, but quickly stopped. She realized she was leaving Chase behind. She quickly swam back to him. "But what about you?"
"I'll stay here and keep the shark distracted," He told her. "That shark is going to go for you the moment it gets out. If that shark gets you, then this will all be for nothing."
Twitch was worried. She didn't want to leave Chase all on his own. "But what if we don't get back in time? What if the bubble burst?"
Chase gave her a confident smirk. "If I can survive being around dinosaurs, fire-breathing dragons, a giant squid and slug, and mechanical sharks, then I can handle a real shark."
CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK
Chase looked down, getting into a fighting stance while growling. "Go! That shark could be here any second."
Twitch could sense the shark coming closer as well. Reluctantly, she began to swim back to the beach. Leaving Chase all by himself.
Chase continued to stare down into the sea, waiting for the shark to appear. The clicking he was hearing was getting louder and faster with every passing second. It wasn't long until Chase could see the face of the shark coming his. He quickly braced himself. The shark rammed its snout into him, sending itself flying up into the air. However, the bubble Chase was in caused him to bounce away, unharmed. Seeing that its target was still alive, the shark open its jaws as it flew back down. He chomped down on Chase, but the bubble made him bounce away once again. Chase smirked, the bubble was working as Twitch had said. He could only hope the shark would continue to focus on him and not back to the merpup he was protecting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At long last, the Paw Patrol had arrived at Adventure Bay Beach. Robo-Dog parked the Paw Patroller on the side of the road and everyone inside quickly ran out, hoping to see their friend was around and safe. But to their dismay, Chase was nowhere to be seen.
"Where could he be?" Rubble whimpered sadly.
"I'm not sure, Rubble," Ryder sighed. They all began looking around, hoping to see any sign of their friend. Eventually, someone did see something. Skye could see something grey far out in the water. She pulled down her goggles and used her zoom lens to get a better look. She was shocked when she saw that it was a shark. But what horrified her was what she saw it was doing.
The shark was launching an assault on what appeared to be a ball. However, inside the ball was a german shepherd with brown fur wearing a black vest.
"Ryder! I see Chase!" Skye exclaimed. Everyone was surprised at her sudden shouting. He's trapped inside a ball and a shark is attacking him!"
"A shark?!" Everyone yelled in shock. They all looked ahead and could see the shark themselves, albeit not as well as Skye could.
"No time to plan. We need to go, now!" Ryder said. They were about to leave for the Beach Tower, but Skye spoke up again.
"Wait! There's something else," Skye said. She saw a small creature with orange fur swimming toward them. Skye recognized the creature as a Merpup and it looked tired. "There's a Merpup swimming this way, but it looks exhausted."
"Merpups? They're real?!" Liberty squealed, completely forgetting about the dangerous situation happening.
"That Merpup might be the reason Chase came down here," Ryder assumed. He turned his head to Marshall. "Marshall, I want you to get the Merpup and bring her onboard the Sea Patroller so you can check it over. Everyone else, go straight to Chase."
With that said, everyone ran toward the doors of the Beach Tower. Once there, Ryder went up to the right side of the doors and placed his hand on the wall. A red laser scanned his hand and turned green. A small keypad opened up next to it. Ryder proceeded to enter the code.
16. 1. 23.
The doors opened.
They hurried inside to change their lifeguard uniforms, which they did so in three seconds flat. Wildcat, Rex, and Liberty were also given their own lifeguard uniforms, which Ryder had prepared in case they were ever needed for this type of mission. Everyone except Ryder, Wildcat, Rex, and Liberty took off in their vehicles, Everest taking over Chase's speed raft. The rest took off onboard the Sea Patroller and began to race to the rescue.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twitch was exhausted. Her swimming had decreased greatly as she struggled to keep going.
"Must... keep going..." She panted. She swam and swam, but she was making no progress. Then suddenly, a loud, blaring horn sounded nearby. Frightened, Twitch ducked down underwater to hide from what may be coming. But when she looked up, she saw a large, red ship passing by. On the side was a familiar symbol. A shield with a pawprint in the middle. The Paw Patrol.
"It's them!" She exclaimed happily. She brought herself back above the surface. Twitch saw five more boats and a plane also passing by. One of the boats, a red one, stopped next to her while the rest of them carried on. The pup inside was none other than Marshall, though Twitch didn't know who he was.
"Hello there, I'm Marshall," Marshall greeted. "You look exhausted. Climb aboard, I'll give you a lift and a check-up inside the Sea Patroller."
Twitch was hesitant at first, but she knew she could trust him since he was Chase's friend. She climbed onto his boat, but her exhaustion finally overcame her and she was soon fast asleep.
'Definitely tired,' Marshall thought to himself. He began to drive back to the Sea Patroller as he called Ryder. "Ryder, I have the merpup with me. But she fell asleep in my speedboat."
"That's alright, Marshall. Bring her inside, she'll be much safer in here," Ryder told him.
The front of the Sea Patroller opened, allowing Marshall to drive in with Twitch. The door then closed once he was in.
Soon, the Paw Patrol had caught up to Chase and the shark. They were all in shock at how big the shark was. Its length alone was as big as a giant squid.
"Dude! Look at that thing!" Zuma said in awe.
"And its eyes... look at them!" Everest exclaimed as she stared at the dark aura around them. They realized they weren't dealing with a normal shark. They were all nervous, but they were ready to rescue Chase.
"Meow..." Wildcat said nervously. "That's one fish I wouldn't eat..."
"Ryder, how are we going to get Chase if that shark keeps bouncing him around everywhere?" Rubble asked, watching in worry as his friend continued to be thrashed about. He was glad that the strange bubble he was in was protecting him.
Ryder thought of a plan. "We'll just bump him away. Zuma, I want you to use your robotic arms to grab the shark's tail and hold it back. Everest, you'll speed over to the front of the shark and bump Chase away, then quickly get out of there. And Rocky, you'll catch him.
"Let's Dive In!"
"Off The Trail, Everest Won't Fail!"
"Green Means Go!"
Meanwhile, Chase was having the ride of his life. The shark showed no sign of slowing down as it repeatedly tried to bite him. It surprised him, he thought the shark would've given up by now, as it clearly could not touch him. But it looked committed to trying to kill him.
"Man, I hope someone gets here soon," Chase said to himself. He didn't know how long he had left, the bubble could burst at any moment.
The shark charged at Chase yet again, its jaws wide open to attack. Chase braced himself for another impact. But it never came. Instead, the shark was stopped dead in its tracks, trying to bite Chase but to no avail.
"Don't worry, dude! We got you!"
Chase's eyes widened. "Is that..." Chase peaked behind the shark. There he saw an orange submarine with robotic arms holding the shark back. The pup inside was a very familiar chocolate labrador. Chase just smirked. "Took you guys long enough."
"Hey, you were the one gone for four months, not us." Zuma laughed.
"Heads up, Big Blue!"
Chase looked to his left. He could see Everest coming at him at full speed in his police raft. The husky rammed into him, sending him away from the shark's grasp.
"Nice to see you too, Everest," Chase called out. He skidded across the water until he was caught by Rocky and his sub.
"Jumping off a train and tangling with a shark?" Rocky started. "Just how crazy did that training make you?"
"Not crazy enough, considering I'm still alive," Chase stated. "Now hurry and move! That shark will get out of Zuma's grip at any second.
Chase was right. The shark had shaken Zuma's robotic arms off and began pursuing them. Rocky quickly took off, holding Chase in front of him with his forklift.
"What is with this shark, Chase?" Rocky asked him.
"Possessed," Chase simply stated. "I know that sounds crazy but just look at it."
Rocky looked back at the shark, its dark glowing eyes stared right into his soul.
"I believe it," Rocky replied. He quickly called everyone else. "Guys, Chase said the shark's possessed.
"Possessed?!" Liberty exclaimed. "Like... demon possessed?!"
"It wouldn't be the weirdest thing we've dealt with," Skye chimed in.
"Why are you guys so calm about this?" Rex asked, shocked that they weren't freaking out over a possessed shark.
"Dude, we're friends with a literal alien. Anything is possible at this point," Zuma said.
"For once in a long time, I agree with you," Rocky said. "So what do we-"
"Rocky, watch out!" Chase cried out. Rocky looked back ahead and let out a yelp when he saw he was heading straight toward some rocks. He quickly stopped, but Chase slipped out of his forklifts grasp. Chase skidded straight toward the rocks and bounced off them. The shark changed direction, swimming away from Rocky and over to Chase.
"Don't worry, I got you, Chase!" Rubble said. The bulldog was able to pick Chase up with his scoop and began to drive away from the shark.
"Thanks, Rubble," Chase told him. But he quickly realized he had forgotten something. "Wait, where's Twitch?"
Rubble was confused. "Who?"
"The Merpup I was helping. She was supposed to meet up with you guys," Chase said. He was worried she could be in danger.
"Don't worry, Chase. Marshall took her inside the Sea Patroller," Rubble told him. Chase sighed in relief. While the shark continued chasing, Ryder was thinking of a plan to help them. He quickly got one when his eyes laid a cage attached to the Sea Patroller's hook. The same one Chase's used to lure away the hypnotized animals in the jungle.
"Robo-Dog, lower the cage down so it's just above the water," Ryder instructed.
"Arf Arf!"
Robo-Dog pressed a button on his control panel, letting him lower the cage as Ryder instructed. The young teen then called Rubble.
"Rubble, try to get Chase into the cage. That way we can get him away from the shark," Ryder told him.
Rubble looked at the big ship and spotted the cage. "Let's Dig It." Rubble went straight towards the ship, but the shark was still on their tail.
"Don't worry dude, I'll distract it," Zuma said. He sped up and drove next to the shark. "Come on sharky, come and get me!" He tapped the shark with his robotic arms to taunt it further, but the shark ignored him.
"Let me try," Everest joined in as she also drove up next to the shark. "Here sharky sharky, I got some yummy fish!" But like Zuma, the shark ignored her.
"That shark sure wants Chase badly," Wildcat said.
"Hurry, Rubble!" Ryder shouted. Rubble got closer and closer to the cage. With urgency, he tossed Chase into the cage. He succeeded and Chase went in. However, his bubble hit the back of the cage, causing him to bounce back into the ocean.
"Well... that didn't work..." Ryder sighed with frustration.
"My turn. Ruff! Dino Claw!" Rex's mechanical claw appeared from his pup pack as he attempted to grab him. But when he did, his claw bounced off the bubble.
"Meow! Yarn Launcher!" Wildcat tried next. But his yarn string bounced off as well. Seconds later though, a buoy was thrown at Chase. But it bounced off him too. Rex and Wildcat looked over toward Liberty, who they both knew threw the buoy and questioned why she thought it would work.
"What?" She retorted. "I don't have a fancy claw or launcher like you guys."
"Ryder, how can we help Chase if we can't even touch him?" Rocky asked.
"Hmm..." Ryder began thinking. "We need to pop that bubble... maybe we can-"
"Don't worry guys, I'm coming."
Suddenly, Marshall raced out of the Sea Patroller to help in the rescue. He sped toward Chase at full speed. But the dalmatian was going too fast.
"Marshall! Slow down!" Chase yelled to him.
Too late. Marshall slammed into Chase, sending the shepherd straight upward. Everyone stared, disappointed but not angry at him. The only thing he could do was sulk back into his seat.
"Hehe... oops..."
However, not all hope was lost. When Skye saw Chase flying upward she had an idea. She lowered the scoop to her seaplane and with great precision, caught Chase in her scoop. Chase sighed in relief and looked up at Skye with a smile.
"Thanks a lot, Skye. I owe you," Chase thanked.
Skye smiled back. "The only thing you owe me is a welcome-back hug when this is over." She told him.
"Great work, Skye," Ryder cheered. "Now, bring him over to the Sea Patroller."
"Copy that, Ryder," Skye replied. But as she began to fly back, Chase noticed something. The shark had disappeared.
"Wait, hold on," Chase said. Skye stopped in her tracks, careful not to drop him. "The shark, it's gone!"
"Gone?" Skye said puzzled. She looked around, but she didn't see it either. "Guys, where did the shark go?"
Everyone else looked around as well, but non of them could see the shark.
"Maybe it went home?" Rubble guessed, hoping that his guess would be true.
"No... that shark was chasing Twitch for three days straight. No way it would give up now," Chase stated. He would be correct.

Chase looked down the moment the clicking returned. He saw a large object quickly getting closer and closer to the surface. He knew that it was.
"Everyone move!" Chase yelled. Alarmed but his sudden outburst, everyone in the water moved to a safe distance. Chase then looked back up a Skye. "Skye, fly up as fast as you can, now!"
Surprised, Skye did as told. At that moment, the shark came leaping up from the water, high into the air. Skye went up faster as the shark got closer. She narrowly avoided being chomped on as the shark began to flip down, but the sudden motion caused Chase to slip off her scoop.
"No, Chase!" She cried out.
Chase began to fall. The shark's head was too low for it to bite him. However, everything seemed to slow down when Chase saw its large tail coming directly toward him.

The shark's tail slammed into Chase hard. He wasn't hurt, but the impact was strong enough to send the german shepherd flying far away. His friend cried out his name in fear as they watched him fly further and further away from them.
Chase watched as he was sent sky-high. He didn't scream or shout anything, but he was worried.
"Well... at least the landing won't hurt," Chase told himself.
At that moment, the bubble popped.
"Or... maybe it will."
