Chapter 1: The Town and Her Family

Luna walked down the path on the left and peered around. Unlike the path on the right this path was full of life and color. Everywhere you looked you could see flowers, trees, and small animals running around.

She stopped and looked ahead of her and saw that at the end of the path was a town. From where she was standing she could hear shouting, moving wagons, children running and this strange sound she had never heard before.

Interested, Luna walked on and entered the town

She looked around her with wide eyes full of curiosity, then out of nowhere she saw him.

A boy, who appeared to be a few years older than her, walked by a clothes shop, holding the hand of a woman.

The boy had a golden body, long red-orange hair and eyes the same as her's. He wore a blue cape, which made him look childish to Luna

The woman was tall and chubby. Her long sky blue hair nearly trailed behind her in a thick braid. Her skin was the same color and her eyes were cyan. She wore a simple dress that reached past her knees.

When the woman entered the shop, she let go of the boy's hand and left him outside. The moment he turned around the boy spotted Luna and gaped.

"DARK NUMBER!!!!" A woman next to the boy screamed

The townspeople went into immediate panic and started running around wildly. Luna looked around her frantically, dodging the Numbers who came running her way. The woman pointed at her and yelled

"There she is!!!" When the words left her mouth the townspeople went silent and still and stared at Luna. Some of them were glaring and some of them looked at her with fear on their faces.

A large man came out of the crowd and walked towards Luna. He stopped about a foot away from her and glared. "Why do you come here, Dark one? This town did nothing to disturb you, now leave."

Luna scowled and glared at the man. She knew this was going to happen if she ran into others. The Cloaked man told her that everyone in the number realm hated Dark Numbers, even the Dark Numbers who actually had a heart in them.

Now, my dear reader, you may be wondering why the townspeople hate Luna because she's a Dark Number. Well, the name is pretty self-explanatory. Dark Numbers are cruel, evil, wicked, devious and all things bad. They create chaos in the number realm and disturb the peace. Dark Numbers are also very powerful. It's hard just to land a single blow on them, nevermind a scratch or cut.

"STOP!!! STOP!!!" Screamed a voice from inside the crowd.

The crowd parted and the woman Luna had seen holding the boy's hand came running through. She took Luna into her arms and glared at the townspeople.

"How dare you people hurt this poor girl! Can you not see that she is just but a mere child!?" The woman screamed, but the townspeople did not listen to her. They continued to throw whatever they could grab.

Suddenly a sword whizzed through the air and landed in front of Luna and the woman. The crowd grew silent and looked behind them. They parted once again and bowed as a man who looked like the setting sun walked through.

"Dusk, spare this girl's life! She means us no harm!" The woman pleaded

Dusk gripped his sword and pulled it out of the ground. He looked at the girl and studied her carefully. Dusk eyes widened and he gasped in surprise. The crowd behind him lifted their heads and looked at the girl, hoping to find the source of his surprise, but they could see nothing.

"Lana... the girl... Doesn't she look familiar to you...?" Dusk said, his eyes still on Luna

Lana looked at Luna and gasped. The crowd grew more confused and lost their patience. They started shouting questions and pleas about Luna and what her faith would be. Dusk and Lana continued to stare at Luna in awe, while the boy wearing the cape simply glared at her like the rest of the townspeople.

Dusk kneeled in front of Luna and peered into her eyes and, to her surprise, the man before her had the same eyes she did. When she looked at Lana she noticed that she had the same mouth as her and the same cheeks. Realization slowly hit the townspeople and they all gasped.

"She's come home! My nameless daughter is back! She's home!" Dusk carried Luna and raised her before the people. At first the townspeople were silent, but then slowly they clapped, then they shouted and cheered.

"Solaris, my son, come and take a look at your long lost baby sister!" Dusk said, looking at the boy with the cape. Solaris walked forward and stopped in front of his father, looking up at the Luna with a blank expression.

Just when Solaris was about to speak the townspeople cheered once more with a loud shout and guided Dusk to the town's main building. There they celebrated Luna's return to the town and welcomed her. They partied all night long and when midnight came the townspeople went home in groups.

Soon it was just Dusk, Lana, Solaris, and Luna all alone in the building. Luna stood away from her family and shifted uncomfortably. She had no idea she had a family or that there were other Numbers so close.

"Come, my daughter. We will take you to our home and you'll live there." Lana said and reached a hand out to her. Luna looked at it then at Lana. She studied Lana's face to see if there were anything hidden underneath her smile, but there wasn't.

Luna took Lana's hand and was guided to a small house a mile away from the town. the house was your normal average everyday house. It had windows in the front and a lovely door that held a welcome sign on it.

Next to the house was a full grown tree. Hanging on one of the branches was a tire swing. The door opened and a man with navy blue skin, navy blue hair, and regular blue eyes smiled at them. He was wearing a butler suite.

"Kaimana, my friend, look who we found!" Dusk said happily and gestured to Luna.

Kaimana inspected Luna carefully and smiled. "I see you have found your daughter, Dusk-sama. That is wonderful. Please, do come in or you'll catch a cold."

He stepped aside and the family of four walked in and sat down in the living room. Kaimana stood in the doorway watching and listening intently to what they were talking about.

At first they were all silent, then Luna spoke up. "So, you're my family?" She asked dubiously

Lana smiled and nodded. "Then why have I been living with the Cloaked man all these years? Why did you not come and take me from there? Have you any idea how much I suffered with that big meanie!?!" Her anger rose and soon the wind picked up around her, lifting up her hair and the nearby furniture.

"Sssssh. My daughter, please, calm down. We did not know you were with the Cloaked man. We thought that he had killed you..." Lana said then she explained the events of the night she and Dusk went to the Cloaked man and asked him for his help.

Luna calmed down, but continued to glare. For some reason she felt such hate towards these people, especially the two adults in front of her.

"Tell us, do you have a name? Did the Cloaked man give you one?" Dusk asked calmly

"Luna. My name is Luna." She stood tall and puffed her chest out, just like the Cloaked man had taught her, trying her best to look intimidating

"Well, Luna. Welcome home!" Lana said and hugged Luna in a warm embrace. Dusk hugged her and Solaris reluctantly joined in on the hug.

Luna pushed them off and took several steps back. She glared at them and scowled.

Somehow Kaimana appeared behind Luna and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Well then. You seem to be a feisty one, Luna. Let's get you to bed. I have already prepared a room for you. Come with me." Kaimana roughly guided Luna to a room on the second floor and showed her inside.

The room had a bed, perfect for her size, a desk, chair, book case, and some other room stuff. Luna cautiously looked around then she looked at Kaimana.

"Who are you?" She asked, her eyes narrowing.

"My name is Kaimana, Luna. I am your mother's assistant." Kaimana replied with a blank face

Luna scoffed and hopped on the bed. "She's not my mother, nor is that tall guy my father, or that boy with the blue cape my brother. The Cloaked man told me that my real parents abandoned me when I was just a baby."

"Really? Did he now?"

"Yes, he did, now get out so I can sleep." Luna pushed Kaimana out the door and closed it shut behind him.

She hopped on the bed again and laid down, staring at the ceiling. Moments later, Luna felt sleep calling her. She soon closed her eyes and fell alseep.

Back in the living room, Kaimana came downstairs and escorted Solaris to his own room. When they left, Lana and Dusk immediately went deep into an argument.

"Lana, she's a dark number! She's a DARK NUMBER! How is that even possible!?!"

"I don't know, but I do know that it has something to do with the Cloaked man." Lana looked out the window and stared into the night, knowing that the Cloaked man was watching them.

"That man... He did this to her! I'll find him and when I do I'll-"

"No. Do not go after him. That's exactly what he wants, Dusk."

"I know. I know. but there must be something, ANYTHING, we can do to lift whatever curse has been laid down upon her." Dusk sighed and began pacing the room, thinking of a way to turn Luna back in a regular number,

"So the girl is different, so what? Dusk, she's our daughter and after all these years she's finally come back to us. Why can't you just be happy with that?"

"No. I am the leader of this town, Lana. If I were to have a Dark number as a child think of what the townspeople would think. You know that they'll soon remember that she's a Dark number and go after her."

"Can they not just accept for WHO she is and not WHAT she has become!?!" Lana yelled, frustrated with her husband's narrow mind.

"Lana, look, think of how scared they would be of her, of us, of me. I would lose their trust and loyalty and they would rather throw us out, then to have us living here with a DARK number."

"Well, you AND the townspeople are just going to have to deal with it because I won't have my daughter casted out there in the unknown all on her own." Lana turned to the stairs and stomped towards them.

"Lana, please, listen to reason! I'm not suggesting for us to throw away Luna, but to find a way to remove her curse so that she may once again be a normal number, like she was meant to be!"

"No, you're worrying about what the people think of you and your appearance to others than your own daughter!!!" She marched up the stairs and continued to stomp to their bedroom. Once she reached the room she trotted into the room and picked up Dusk's pillow and a separate blanket for him.

"Lana, dear, it's not like-" Before Dusk could finish his sentence Lana stuffed the pillow and blanket and closed the door in his face without another word.

"Oh~! Someone's in trouble~!" Luna said from down the hallway. Her head was sticking out the doorway to her room and she had a big grin on her face.

"Luna, dear, go back to bed. Mommy and Daddy are having issues." Dusk sighed and walked back downstairs. Luna ignored him and skipped after him.

"I heard what you said about me, old man. You want to get rid of me and cast me out, don't you?" Luna said as she entered and sat down on a sofa chair

"Luna, please, Daddy is tired and he wants to go to sleep." Dusk laid down on the couch and covered himself with the blanket.

"You're not my father!!!" Luna screamed and attacked Dusk. Dusk responded immediately and sprang into action. He grabbed Luna's arms and pinned them against her back, then he pinned her body to the wall.

Luna screamed and kicked at Dusk. She landed a few kicks, but to him they felt like soft kitty paws hitting him.

"Luna, please calm down. You'll wake everyone up." Luna took a deep breath and eventually calmed herself, but she kept glaring at Dusk.

"Now go to bed and GO. TO. SLEEP." Dusk said, his voice firm and commanding.

Luna scoffed and marched up the stairs, down the hallway to her room, and stopped at the door. She balled her fists up, looked down and gritted her teeth.

"Hey, you Dark number" Luna lifted up her head and saw Solaris standing at the end of the hallway, scowling at her.

She smirked and said coolly "What do you want, Cape boy~?"

"You don't belong here or anywhere. No one will accept you in this town." He narrowed his eyes.

"Don't even think that for a minute that any of us care for you, Luna." He smirked and went back to his own room down the hall

Luna rolled her eyes and entered her own room, closing the door behind her. She sat on the bed and stared out the window.

Why did I come here? This place is stupid! These people claim to be my family, but I don't believe them one bit! I don't HAVE a family and I never will. That's what the Cloaked man said and that's how it'll always be. Even if these people were my family, why would they like me? They don't know me and I don't know them. We're complete strangers, so why the fuck would they even bother!? And the townspeople! Geez! They're even more annoying! First they scream and beg for my death, then they welcome me as though I'm one of their one! Bipolar bitches. I know they're faking it.

Luna closed her eyes and fell asleep, unaware that she was being watched.

DUN~! DUN~! DUUUNNNNN~! X3
