Chapter 7
Beatrix woke up to the blinding light of the sun. For a second, she freaked out, not knowing where she was. Then she remembered all of last night, the dance, the walk, the well, the sudden blackout. She sat up. Everybody else was still asleep. She glanced up to where the sun was. It looked like almost noon. School was already out for the year probably, Beatrix thought. She looked around at the clearing and spotted Shian meditating by a tree. He seemed to be saying something that Beatrix couldn't make out.
"Hey, Shian!" Beatrix called. Shian quickly turned around and looked surprised.
"Well, you're up early. The spell was supposed to last another ten minutes" Shian said.
"Wait, spell?" Beatrix exclaimed. "And why am I suddenly less attracted to you?"
"Let me explain," Shian started. He gestured to a rock for them to sit down on. Beatrix moved over and sat down on it.
"What do you need to explain." Beatrix said with her arms crossed.
"Well, your world is shared with others." Shian said.
"What others?" Beatrix interjected angrily.
"Magical beings. Merpeople, sirens, Wizards, witches, talking animals, elves, dwarves, that sort of thing. And they all live here in this forest. We call it Palasia." Shian explained.
"What!" Beatrix exclaimed. Her heart raced, these were creatures told to her in fairy tales and fantasy stories. Not factual ones!
"And I am a wizard. I put a spell on you to make you fall in love with me so I could lure you and your friends here, into these woods." Shian said.
"Why do you want us here in the woods?" Beatrix asked, "And also rude that you put a spell on me. Why couldn't you just kidnap us? And why did you throw us in a well?"
"Well, the love thing makes you know me more and the drama is fun, the well water makes you see the magic in the magical beings, and I need you here because of a prophecy. You and your friends are no normal normas." Shian said.
"What is a norma?" Beatrix asked.
"A non magical being. And you three are something that hasn't existed in over three thousand years. You and your friends are kannahs. And you are part of a prophecy." Shian said.
"What is a kannah?" Beatrix asked.
"A norma born magical being, and a prophecy states," Shian cleared his throat, "Three kannah shall come, one with powers of fire, one with powers of dead, and one with powers of strength. These three shall overcome a powerful threat coming to take Palasia. These three shall bring justice and glory."
"So, I have magical powers."
"Yes."
"Which one am I?"
"Well, you are the one with powers of fire."
"How do you know?"
"A week ago I was staring into your window and saw a small flame come out of your hand."
"Why were you staring into my window?"
"Because I knew you were one of them."
"How?"
"Because I just did okay?" Shian exclaimed. "Explain it to your friends when they wake up. I'm going for a walk."
Shian started off, but Beatrix cut in. "Why so angry all of a sudden, Mr. wizard?"
"Because....because....I...I" Shian stammered, blushing bright red.
"You what?" Beatrix said, folding her arms and tapping her foot.
"Oh never mind, I'll tell you later." And with that Shian ran off.
"Boys." Beatrix muttered. Just then, Hayden and Sadie woke up.
"What's going on? Where's Shian? What's happening?!" Sadie exclaimed as she stood up.
"Guys, Shian isn't who he said he is." Beatrix said.
"Is that why he left?" Hayden asked.
"No, he just got suddenly mad and stormed off for some reason." Beatrix said.
"Then what's happening?!" Sadie yelled.
"The world isn't how we think it is." Beatrix said.
"What are you trying to say?" Hayden asked.
"There are magical creatures that live in these woods. And we're magical too."
