Chapter 5
Hayden looked around. He didn't see Shian yet. He hoped Shian forgot about the dance so he could ask Beatrix to dance. He really like Beatrix, and she looked especially pretty in her dress. Anyway, his thoughts went past that. This was the last school dance of the year, it was time to have fun! He pulled Beatrix and Sadie out to the dance floor and they all started jumping around and dancing.
Beatrix laughed and smiled. Hayden loved it when she did that. Sadly, soon the comfortableness of being with good friends was gone, and Shian arrived and joined them. They all stopped dancing and just looked at Shian. He was wearing a suit and tie and looked really fancy. "Hello," he said.
"Hi there." Hayden said.
"I better get going, I see my date over there," Sadie said, slowly leaving the conversation, knowing that it was going to get awkward. Hayden could see that. He could read Sadie like an open book.
"So, Shian, Hayden," Beatrix said, "Do you want to go dance, or what?"
"Sure let's dance." Shian said. Hayden glared at him, but nodded and they started dancing in their little group. It was very awkward.
Soon, as it always does, a dance circle formed. Only the best were dancing in the middle, and most were really good. Hayden was jealous and wished he could dance well to impress Beatrix. Then Shian went to the middle of the circle. And he started dancing.
At first it was really awkward dancing, but then it started to get groovier and then he was dancing amazingly well. People started clapping for him, but Hayden groaned. This was not good. Then he pulled Beatrix into the circle and they started dancing. Beatrix laughed her beautiful laugh. Then Hayden got angry. Shian was dancing with HIS crush and HIS best friend. He left the circle and went over to the snack table where Sadie and her date were talking. He grabbed a potato chip and crunched on it loudly, signaling to Sadie to talk to him. Luckily, Sadie understood and excused herself from her date and turned around. "Is Shian getting you down?" She asked with a pouty face.
"Yeah," Hayden replied.
"Well, too bad so sad. Suck it up. I wanna hang out with my date." She said and turned back to her date. Hayden was shocked and went back to his potato chips. This is going to be a long night, he thought. He glanced back at the dance circle. Beatrix and Shian were no longer dancing, but Shian was looking stressed out and sitting in a chair with Beatrix at his side. Hayden poked Sadie and pointed to them. She quickly excused herself from her date, again, and Hayden and Sadie ran over to Beatrix and Shian. "Hey, what's up?" Sadie asked them.
"I just got a text from my mom saying I can't go to the party tomorrow because we're visiting family and he freaked out." Beatrix said, looking concerned.
"You, okay?" Sadie asked Shian.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Hey, I'm not feeling well. Can you guys walk me home?" Shian said.
"Sure." Hayden said grumpily. Beatrix wasn't going to be at the party tomorrow!
The four got up and headed out of the school.
"Where do you live?" Beatrix asked Shian.
"In a small house in the woods," he said, pointing to the forest that was behind the school.
"Okay, let's go!" Sadie said, and they all started walking to the forest, unaware of what was actually happening.
