Chapter One: The Wood Elf
... 'Hello, reader this is my hunting journal for when I go hunting.' I write into my journal, I let out a happy sigh as I close it, I am sitting by the river; very deep into the forest, its water looks like molten silver as it runs around the rocks that are lodged into the holes in the river bed, the sound emitting a nice trickling sound.
I look around to see if there is any game... 'Damn!' there is none, not even a measly hare. I hear a crack of twigs behind some trees, I look over to where the sound came from, alas, nothing there. I tilt my head in confusion, I wonder what it could be... 'A deer? A fox? A-' I hear it again, interrupting my thinking, I look over to the noise once again, still nothing there, I go back to thinking. '- A... fellow Elf?' I look around again 'It cannot be! No one comes out this far just to find me!' I get up slowly, trying not to disturb the possible game that was there, I pick up my oak bow and my quiver full of arrows.
I walk closer and closer to the tree before I hear a deer pass on the over side of the river, I turn my head quickly to watch it go. "Pffffft!" I say loudly before starting to run after the deer; I start walking and soon I start to pick up my pace, my legs moving faster and faster, my speed picking up, I'm running fast now. I slow down as I see the deer grazing in the tall, green grass. I tiptoe towards the river bank and take my bow which the string was across my front and the limb of the bow across my back. I have my quiver attached to my hunting belt. I take an arrow from the quiver and place my left hand (Because I'm right handed) on the handle grip, I place the arrow on the arrow rest as I hold the crest of the bow and push it into the bow string. I slowly raise my bow, pointing it at the deer's chest, I stay still, I stay low, I stay silent. In less that one second, I strike the deer, I strike it right where I wanted to; the lungs. I look at it drop to the ground as it slowly dies. I stand up slowly, watching my step so I don't fall into the river, I look around for some stepping stones as I fix my long, mud brown hair which matches my mud brown eyes. I see some stones to cross the fast flowing river, about twenty feet from where I currently stand, I walk slowly over to the stones as I look at the corpse to see if anyone on the other side of the river would take it 'Hopefully not!'.
About a few hours later I am hauling my hunt into the small village which I call home, the men watch me as I drag it on a small cart, accompanied by some other small animals which I killed on the way here. The women watch me and so do their kids, my mother runs up to me and gives me a large hug, I turn crimson red with embarrassment. I give my mother two taps on her back as she lets me go, I look around to see if any of the boys that I like are watching, thank gods that none were! I continue walking towards a house which in fact was a small hut in which lived an elderly woman and a very handsome young man whom prepared the hunt that the hunters brought in everyday. I enter the hut and deposit the cart before leaving a small note which reads. 'Dear maatt' ((Yes... That's his name)) 'Here's todays hunt, sorry I didn't bring much. You're good friend Jess' I sign the paper and draw a little love heart on it before I exit the building and head towards my hut.
((A new book, yes... This one will actually continue!))
