Chapter Twenty-Three, The Volturi's Arrival

Chapter Twenty-Three, The Volturi's Arrival

Previously on The Wolf's Major:

"I'm sorry did you say an Immortal Child?" 'Old' Quil Ateara asked in horror. "Please do not tell me that is what I think it is!"
"Yes." Rosalie added sadly. "An Immortal Child is someone who turns a child under thirteen. Jane and Alec are pushing the mark as they are only just thirteen but were turned by Aro Volturi, one of the Kings. Immortal Children are instantly beloved by anyone who beheld them. You would do anything for them, but their maturity and understanding are frozen at the age they were turned. A single tantrum can massacre an entire city."

"Centuries ago, the mother of our cousins, the Denali's, turned a little boy, who was Jayden's age." Emmett explained to the rising horror of those from La Push. "He killed an entire village with his tantrum, putting a new meaning of terrible twos. She died trying to attack the Volturi when they came to destroy him.
Kate, and her sisters Tanya and Irina were only spared as they didn't know about him, their mother had hid him from even them."
"Since then it's been a death sentence to create an Immortal Child." Alice finished the explanation, while Jasper consoled a distraught Margot, tenderly wiping away her tears.

"Who could turn a poor baby?" Margot gasped, taking both Jasper and Paul's hands in her own to calm herself down. "Sorry. Damn hormones." She grumbled, brushing the remaining tears from her cheeks. But she could admit that the thought of someone doing that to her precious Jay or someone his age sent a bolt of pain and fear through her heart.
"You don't need to apologise Marlie." Rosalie assured her best friend with a soft smile as the pack and the Elders were left in a horrified silence as they tried to digest that disgusting news that anyone would do that to a poor child, never mind a baby like the Denali mother had.

"It is a disgusting thing to do to a child, never mind a baby." Rosalie agreed, unbeknownst to her agreeing with their thoughts. "I would never wish this life on anyone and would never ever do that to a child no matter how much I would have loved a child, but I have my Emmett, and a gorgeous nephew and a new niece or nephew so I have finally made peace with it." She smiled when Margot got up to hug and readily returned the hug. "Plus the woman was actually Kate, Tanya and Irina's mother and had turned them against their will so she really didn't need to do that to that poor boy. Stealing him away from his own family..." Rose trailed off shaking her head. That is something she openly disagreed with when Claire and Carlisle told her, no matter what Irina thought it wasn't right. There was something seriously wrong with that woman, a madness that she and Emmett had seen within Irina's eyes.

"Alice is right though." Emmett added. "We should really tell them, and soon."
"I'll write them a letter once we're done here. Including all of the evidence, which may mean they will visit the Amazon tribe and Eleazar first." Jasper sighed. "I won't let any harm come to my family nor anyone on La Push. Although that will mean with the arrival of the three Kings and their guard that more will phase, as they will want to see Margot for themselves and see our thoughts. Aro is like Edward, but he has to touch your hand to be able to read your thoughts." He added as he looked at Billy, Margot and Sam.

At that the pack tensed as they didn't want them near Margot, but they knew it was a better alternative than war.
"We could have them meet us at our house, so they don't come here." Alice added. Billy nodded to Sam and Margot before the two Alphas shared a look, speaking to each other with the pack bond before they turned back to everyone.
"We'll warn everyone and prepare them." Sam stated.
"You know we will help keep an eye on them all." Cara added getting nods from Paul and Jared as they knew they would need the help as there were quite a few who could phase, and they didn't want to stretch Sam and Margot too thin; especially Margot.

"Thanks Cara." Margot smiled gratefully at her best friend.
"The minute we notice any of our kids exhibiting signs of phasing then we will let you know." Harry Clearwater told them, getting grateful smiles from everyone as they knew in the coming months it will be a trying time and they are going to be stretched thin more often than not, as in the New Year Margot will be giving birth and already there has been suspicious deaths making their way closer to Forks, but they haven't been able to find the vampire or vampires responsible, even with Emmett aiding them with his Tracking ability. They were all left with a hollow feeling that everything will be happening all at once.

Chapter Twenty-Three, The Volturi's Arrival

During the two month wait for the Volturi's arrival since Jasper had sent them a letter, it seemed like everything was on fast forward. Three rogue vampires had entered Forks and were causing havoc having killed Waylon Forge causing Embry (Cara's little brother) to phase, Edward had ignored everyone and had told Bella about himself and the rest of the Cullens. Now with the Volturi's arrival was dawning, bringing a rising tension between the pack, Elders, Jasper, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice and Claire. Despite that however, Margot's pregnancy was developing at a normal rate as she was now six months pregnant, bringing with it the first kick from the baby which brought both excitement and fear.

However, for all intents and purposes it was a normal pregnancy. Which did ease many of their thoughts as Margot wasn't put in danger, but Alice assured them this would be the main reason for the Volturi to agree with them. She also assured them that apart from a few wolves phasing there would be no causes for concern with their arrival. But none of them would breathe easier until they had been and left.

"Everything's going to be alright, Marlie." Paul assured his little sister, resting a hand on her bouncing knee. That's always happened to her when her nerves and anxiety got too much. Even sitting between Jasper and himself at the Cullen house while they waited for the impending arrival. The Volturi Kings had wanted everyone close to the situation – meaning Paul, Jasper and all of the Cullens to be present. Thankfully, none of the pack, their parents or the Elders had to be there. Which was a blessing in disguise.

That morning the Ancestors wanted to test them some more, despite feeling that they were spread incredibly thin, they had other ideas and thought they could handle it. As dawn broke over the horizon, Jacob, Leah and Seth awoke feeling irritated and were running a high fever, which meant they would soon phase; leaving them a bit stretched as Paul was with Margot at the Cullens to protect her, Cara and Embry would be protecting Jayden, Emily and Kim at Emily's, while Sam and Jared had to watch over the three potential wolves and calm them down alone in the event they phased. The fever always meant the phase was fast approaching.

"I know." Margot muttered, exhaling slowly, trying to calm herself down. "I just want this over so we can go home, and I can hold Jay. Plus, Christmas is only a month away."
"We will get to see our son again darlin,' I promise." Jasper swore, kissing her forehead and rubbing her back in soothing motions. "However, you need to take it easy, love. You've been shopping for gifts like mad, and I know it has been put on hold due to this visit, but I know you're nearly done."
"Which means little sister, that after this Jasper and I can finish getting the ones left on your list as well as completing our own." Paul added, squeezing her hand softly.

"They'll be here in ten minutes." Alice muttered, looking into the future. She was just glad Edward had taken Isabella into the forest so neither could interfere. Although she knew that Aro would see in their minds that Edward had failed to listen to them and heed their warnings, she only hoped this would not make things worse for Jasper and Margot.
"Everything's going to be alright, love." Claire reassured her mate, pulling her tight into her arms. Before more could be said there was a knock on the back door causing all of their heads to snap up as one. At the back door stood seven vampires wearing black cloaks that had red on the inside, there were six men of various heights and hair colours and one blonde haired female, all with bright blood red eyes and stoic expressions.

"Aro, welcome." Claire greeted, opening the door before her brother could.
"Claire, it is good to see you again." Aro greeted, holding out his hand which Claire readily took as the rest of the Kings and Guard filed into the living room. "I see." Aro muttered with a small frown, but it disappeared before anyone could misinterpret it, although he was angry that Edward had broken one of his most sacred laws and disregarded what his Coven had said to him and told a Blood Singer about them. "Carlisle, you need to either be firmer with Edward or allow someone else to take over." Aro said sternly, glaring at his old friend. "Due to this Edward has broken one of our most sacred laws."

"The reason we waited for two months is due to your evidence we went and visited the Amazon and met the hybrid and visited the Denali clan to speak to Eleazar." Caius informed them all. "What did you see brother?"
"Despite not coming for this reason, I saw that Edward has informed his Blood Singer and is currently off in the forest with her telling her more about us no doubt. He was warned repeatedly not to do so but disregarded everyone." Aro stated.
"Demetri, go and track them and report back to us on what is being said. Do not let them know you are there, however." Marcus ordered.
"Yes Master." Demetri nodded, before taking off back out the back door.

"Now, that is dealt with," Aro said, clapping his hands, he turned towards the sofa that held Margot in between Jasper and Paul. "Do not fret, my dear. Due to what I saw in dear Claire's head, and the evidence we have gathered which backs up what Jasper had stated in his letter, I can safely agree that this baby is not a threat nor will any other child of yours and Jasper's. However, I will look into everyone's mind here to back this up." For the next hour Aro went around the room, starting with Margot and finishing with Carlisle, looking into everyone's memories gathering all the information he possibly could to make a well-informed decision. It was as Aro let go of Carlisle's hand that she had a vision, causing Aro to rush over and take her hand to see what she foresaw.

What he saw shocked him greatly. The vision was of his brother Caius, the one who had swore hatred on wolves centuries ago, become a father figure to Margot and a grandfather figure to her son, Jayden, and the current baby when it's born (both he and Alice knew it was another boy). But that wasn't what shocked Aro the most, however, it was the fact that Caius was happy. Beyond happy, in fact. Aro hasn't seen a smile like that appear on Caius's face for a millennia.
"Well, well, you are one special young lady aren't you, Margot?" Aro asked, letting go of Alice's hand when the vision was over.
"Aro?" Caius asked, confused, before Aro could reveal what he meant Marcus interrupted.

"I have never seen mates with such a strong bond nor by the depth of it." Marcus marvelled, staring intently at Margot and Jasper before he turned his gaze on Paul and Margot. "Nor any sibling, twin or otherwise, with such a strong unshakeable bond. It is truly amazing."
"Marcus, can see the bonds one has with another person." Jasper explained for Paul and Margot's benefit.
"That I can." Marcus agreed. "Aro, did the vision you just watched have anything to do with a parental bond forming between Caius and Margot?"
"It did indeed." Aro laughed, delighting in the shocked expressions on everyone's faces – especially his brother's – before the shock turned into a small happy smile.

"What is your decision, Aro?" Caius asked curiously. He had been wondering why he felt protective of the she-Alpha.
"My decision is this," Aro announced, pulling everyone's attention to himself, "this baby seems to have more wolf genes, and is developing at the pace of a normal human's meaning there is no threat to us nor any risk of exposure to our kind or to the wolves. That said, if they decide to have another child after this one, then there will still be no risk due to the information we gathered from the Amazon tribe. If the next child has more vampiric genes then seven years after their birth they will be fully grown, able to survive on both blood and human food and have the long life of a vampire but look human. I just ask that you inform us if you decide to have another child as a courtesy." Aro declared.

"Perhaps, after this it would be wise to advertise to all male vampires that if they lay with a human they will sire a child." Caius suggested.
"Hmm." Aro mused thoughtfully. "Perhaps that would be wise. It would greatly lower the risk of exposure to us. Good luck with your children and we look forward to seeing you again soon, my young friends, but for now we must see what Demetri has found out and deal with that exposure leak." With that the three Kings followed by their three remaining Guard left the Cullen home causing a great sigh of relief to reverberate around the room as if the house itself were taking a breath.

"That went well." Emmett mused in his best Neville Longbottom voice causing Margot and Paul to burst out into raucous laughter which is exactly what he wanted.
"Baby, thinks Uncle Emmett is funny." Margot stated, causing a large joyous smile to steal across Emmett's lips.
"Good." Emmett stated happily. "We don't want Mummy stressing, so I have to ease the tension."
"You're an idiot." Rosalie laughed, leaning into Emmett.
"Maybe. But I'm your idiot." Emmett stated soppily, causing more laughter as they all finally relaxed for the first time in months.
