Chapter 18
Jake's POV
Derrick and I had just finished packing my stuff and were heading to the car when I got a call from Moon, my sister. Picking up I heard my sister telling her plan to get me back in the school. "Sis chill, slow down, and explain," I laughed. I put the two boxes I had in the trunk of the car and leaned against it.
"Ok ok, I found out from Delta that the only substitute for the school has been being showing up late for his job for the past few weeks. If he magically disappears for a week or two you can swoop in and take the open spot," She finished. "Ok, Sis listen, even if that did work. Wait disappeared how?" I questioned.
"Let me and Delta take care of that ok little bro," She laughed. "Ok whatever remember what mom said clean and quick," I joked as I hung up. 'I wonder what she is up to' I asked myself as I jumped in the car driving to the apartment. "What did Moon want?" asked Derrick putting his window down.
"Nothing I want you involved in love," I cooed as I caressed his cheek. He looked me over and flicking his ears like he always does when he is searching for a lie or gap in your statement. "It's nothing baby I promise," I quickly pecked his cheek before going back to watching the road. 'I don't want Derrick getting involved in stuff like this. He is too sweet and kind. I promised to keep him safe and that is what I'm gonna do.'
Derrick's POV
'He is hiding something I know it, but what is he hiding that is the question.' I thought as I blankly stared out of the car's open window taking in the fresh air. It had been a while since I last felt the wind in my fur as I rode in a car. I remember the last time I felt the wind in my face through a window. I was 15 years old riding with my mom Carina.
Flashback
"Mommy Mommy look look!" I shouted as I saw a coyote run across the road. "I see it Derrderr, That's a coyote," she commented as we moved on. 'A coyote? Hmm never heard of those before.' I thought to myself as I rolled down the window feeling the wind hit my face. "Put your tongue in your mouth before you catch a bug," Carina laughed. I didn't listen and a beetle flew in my mouth and I swallowed it. "Ew gross I swallowed a beetle," I complained spitting and scrubbing my tongue. "I told you so," she blotted. "I know," I whined. Carina nudged me and gave her warm smile making me laugh as she laughed as well.
