School went back to normal today. There was no more apologies for shoving. The exact opposite would happen, it almost turned into a game where the kids would try to see how many times Mindy fell onto a locker, and I did not like it. Not one bit.

Ever since last night when the Alpha did not receive his mate there was more gossip. I was starting to doubt that there would ever be a moment in school where there was no gossip. It would be an impossible wish.

This time the conversations were split between talking about Mathew and who he would choose as his mate, and the meeting that he was having later tonight with a neighboring pack. Mathew told us about it yesterday, but he didn't go into detail about it as much as the people at school.

Apparently, the treaty is about helping the neighboring pack be protected from rogue's going through their land and stealing crops. I didn't think that kind of thing was a big deal because it is just lone wolfs looking for food, but then again we don't know how dangerous they are. Mindy tried to explain to me that if wolves can get into pack land at all, that it is a big deal. She is not only worried about stealing crops, but also that they will poison the crops. I think it's just years of teachers lessons about rogue's that are building up. Each story trying to scare her more than the last. To end the conversation I just agreed with what she was saying.

Lots of people had negative things to say about the neighboring pack. Most were about how weak the pack is, and complaining about how we would have to help such weak wolves. I did not agree with those people, I think it is nice that the Alpha is trying to be compassionate with other packs that are going through a hard time, I also hope that if this pack was going through a hard time, that the neighboring pack would offer to help.

Why couldn't Mathew have been my mate? I think we would have been good together, even though I have not met his wolf, but either way I looked at it, he wasn't my mate.I knew that my mate will be even more perfect than Matthew, but whoever Mathew's mate is will be a lucky girl, or whoever he picks.

There is one girl in particular that will practically lick the ground he walks on, her name is Peary. I know she would do it if that was his request to her. If he asked her to be his mate she would say yes before he could get the chance to ask the whole question, and that made me sad. She probably wouldn't give a second to even consider her real mate waiting for her somewhere else.

"Are you okay, Wolff? You have not talked a lot since last night."

"Yeah, I'm okay."

"So can you tell me why you wanted to talk to the Alpha so bad last night, I know it wasn't just for the reason you gave last night." She is smart.

I told her the truth. "I thought he might have been our mate, but I was wrong."

"Oh, I guess I never thought that could have been a possibility.I mean how could an Alpha werewolf be paired with a girl that is half human half wolf? The pups wouldn't be as strong."

I thought about telling her again that I don't think that the man living with us was her dad, but I decided against it. It did not turn into a friendly conversation last time we talked about it, and if i brought it up again now, it wasn't going to be different. since I still did not have any proof to prove my theory is correct.

"Whoever our mate is, I think they will love you no matter what ranking in the pack you are. There is no rule that says an Alpha can't be with a low ranking wolf."

"Okay, but to tell you the truth, I'm more worried about turning into a wolf then finding my mate. I heard the process is really painful. When I first learned about shifting when I was 13 they teachers forced us to watch a video about how to handle the pain, but after so long not getting a wolf I worried less about feeling the pain, but now that it's only two days away that video is fresh in my mind." Again with teachers scaring students.

I forgot about turning into a wolf in two days, and that news got me really excited, but it was having the opposite effect on Mindy.

"Well, it will be both of our first times and depending when it happens we will always have someone around us when it happens. We have each other, but we also have people like your mom and Kimberly."

"I guess you are right," she said.

School work was done near the end of the night before we had dinner. Dinner consisted of Mashed potatoes, green beans, and steak. It looked delicious. Mindy consumed it pretty fast since after dinner she was already starting to get ready to got to bed. She was putting on her pjs and brushing her teeth. Her parents still beat her to bed though as they said goodnight to her before she said it to them.

"Did you hear that?" I asked, there was a rustling outside the windows like footsteps, I have never heard that before. Since we live so close to the border of the pack there is never any noise outside except sometimes pack patrols making sure there is no rogues and that everything is safe. These footsteps were different though. They were farther away, but definitely getting closer a lot faster then pack patrol. Whoever this one person was, they were sprinting.

"Yeah." She stopped fixing her pillows and looked at her window that had the blinds down. "Do you think a rogue got in our border? Do you think they took something and are making a run for it?"

"Its definitely a possibility."

"We are not part of the pack mind link until we transform into our wolf form. So we don't know if it's a threat or not. If we were part of the pack link we would know."

"Just in case it is a threat we should go see what is going on," I said.

"Are you crazy? If it is a rogue we will be dead in three seconds!"

"But we need to do something! If it is a rogue then they could be stealing things from the pack, like you said. What if they steal something important and we could have done something to prevent it?"

"How would we stop them though! We can't shift yet!"

She was right, but living near the border of the pack must have made them buy some tools to help them protect themselves. "Do you have any weapons that we can use to defend ourselves?"

"I don't think we d--wait!" The bedroom door was pushed open and she flew down the stairs. I saw a drawer full of papers and envelopes and below one of the envelopes was a key that she used to open another drawer. Inside was a gun; a silver pistol gun. One shot to the heart is all it would take to kill a werewolf. "Will this work?"

"It's perfect." I don't think she knows how to use it properly, but hopefully it will just scare the person enough to not try and harm us.

Mindy through on a pair of sneakers and a sweatshirt, but kept on her pajama pants as we ran out the door. Luckily her parents did go to bed earlier so they didn't hear us exiting the house.

We ran towards the running footsteps we heard earlier. Mindy was a lot faster then I thought she would be, the wolf strength was definitely coming into play. She wasn't at her strongest potential, but it was almost there.

We ran a little ways away from the house, but enough that we could still see it. We hid behind a tree and peeked our head around through the trees as the footsteps approached.

"What do I do when I see them?" I saw Mindy's hand shaking, even though she stuffed it in her sweatshirt pocket where she was keeping the gun.

"Just tackle them and hold the gun close to their head, that way they will have to look at us in the eyes and we could help the pack tell them what they look like if they escape. It definitely wasn't a great plan, but I was never good at plans. Just like in the wolf world I just tried to push my way into the group of wolves without thinking about the consequences of being hit in the face. I hope that doesn't happen to Mindy.

I was all of a sudden thinking that this was a bad idea, it was probably a terrible idea from the beginning. I was about to say that we should give up, but Mindy was paying more attention to what was going on then I was, so when the person went to run past us Mindy jumped and the person was flat on their back. I was shocked that it worked and slightly relieved that nothing bad happened. Until I looked down at Mindy's hands grabbing onto the other person's wrists and realized she never took the gun out of the sweatshirt pocket. The rogue could easily free their hands, grab the gun, and be gone.

"Grab your gun! What are you doing!" I yelled, Mindy didn't say anything back.

"I don't think I need my gun." Is she crazy!

I was prepared to yell again, but decided to look more at the person that Mindy Tackled and had to do a double take. It was a girl that looked about Mindy's age, she was wearing a nice looking dress with tights and boots, she was also heavily crying.

"Please let me go! He is going to find me any second! I have to get out of here!" That's when we heard another set of footsteps, and they weren't far away.

"I can help you." I was surprised my Mindy's fast response, but so was the girl.

"I'll be fine if you let me go, I just have to get to the border and I will be safe," The girl stated.

"Whoever this person is, is really fast. You won't make it to the border in time. I have somewhere we can go. Please, trust me." Mindy was pleading, which again surprised me.

The girl nodded as the footsteps approached faster.

"Where are we going to go?" I asked.

"We are going to my family's shack, it's where we go when my mom gets an alert that there is suspicious activity outside the border. The shack masks werewolf scents."

We quickly got to the brown shack and locked the door behind us and leaned our backs against a mattress that was pushed up against one of the walls. The loud footsteps got really close, but then stopped and a growl was heard that was as loud as boulders falling down a mountain. Looking down, the girl with the long brown hair was pushed up against Mindy's side and they were leaning against each other in a supportive way.

Mindy hasn't asked the girl any questions about who she was running from or hasn't said anything to me about who she is. She seems just as clueless as I am. We both want answers, and we are both willing to wait for them. Even if it meant staying in a shack with a stranger in the dark.

Chapter posted!

I'm actually really liking this posting schedule!

Anyone want to guess who this girl is? (Hint. She is important in the story)

I wrote this all today when I got home from school so sorry if there is a lot of mistakes. Thank you so much for reading <3
