Ch. 33
Avalonna
Avalonn's heart beat faster than ever and she could quite literally feel the electricity in the air around her. Her spell had been strengthened by Cyra's magic and she managed to smile slightly as the green sparks danced around her fingertips. The enchantments from Cyra also restored Avalonna's energy periodically, allowing her to maintain her spells for longer than usual. Her smile went away as her brother sent balls of fire hurling at her.
"Arma!" She cried out, as the fireball hit harmlessly into an invisible barrier inches in front of her.
"Connor, enough! You must fight this." She told her brother.
Connor's lips curled into a sinister smirk and he stepped closer and closer towards Avalonna. His eyes were darker than normal and his voice matched Drakar's. However, with each spell cast and each successful attack from Avalonna, Drakar seemed to lose more and more control over Connor.
"You leave me no choice." Avalonna stated and concentrated on the electric energy flowing around her.
"Fulgur!" She shouted instinctively. The energy around her shot off her fingertips like arrows and buried themselves into Connor.
Connor was sent stumbling back and yelled out in pain. The electric arrows surged around him and sparked to life as he attempted to escape. The more he struggled, the brighter the energy glowed and stronger it became. Avalonna felt sorry for her brother and almost released the spell if she had not remembered it was Drakar feeling the pain.
"Surrender Drakar!" Avalonna shouted and cautiously approached Connor's body. He still attempted to move and escape, but his electric binds flashed brightly and shocked him and held him in place. The cackling of the bolts became louder with each surge.
"I will not surrender to you witch." Connor replied, wincing in pain.
"You think you are the only one with control over lightning?" He asked with a sneer.
"Fulgur!" He shouted, and the lightning wrapped around him exploded in a brilliant flash of light. He arose from the ground and drew a small dagger from out of his robes.
"Your brother has trained well with the elves, it is unfortunate I will not be able to test his archery skills on you." Connor said, his eyes heavy and his voice cracking at times as he fought for dominance over Drakar.
"Connor will defeat you, dragon." Avalonna stated.
"Then we will both banish you forever."
"You still have your hope, I shall have to take that from you before I truly defeat you." Connor replied and closed his eyes.
"Fulgur!" He chanted again and green lightning sparked from his fingertips and slammed into Avalonna, sending her spiraling into the ground. She arose slowly, the spell not only caused her pain, but seemed to be draining her strength. She felt herself get weaker each time the lights grew brighter.
"Now it is you who should surrender, witch." Connor said with a sneer. Avalonna still had a hard time remembering this was not her brother, but Drakar causing all of her troubles.
"I give you two choices." Connor stated and concentrated harder so his spell would be more lethal. Avalonna let out an initial cry of pain, but stood her ground and glared at her brother in response.
"Your first, surrender to me and swear in your language of magic that you will be my prisoner."
Avalonna scoffed at the suggestion and managed to spit at Connor's feet before the electricity around her pulsed again. The impulses began to make it hard for her to think clearly.
"I shall never surrender to you or the Nitehardts, Drakar. I swear to that." She stated and stared into the dark soulless eyes that had replaced her brother's. She smiled as she caught a glimpse of her spirit dragon destroying on of the elemental beasts, though she still had three attackers left.
Connor sneered and began to chuckle to himself. He clenched his fist and Avalonna felt the sparks around her grow hotter.
"Your second choice, witch, is to kill your beloved brother. I will keep attacking regardless, so you would be safer if you stopped me. The shock from our connected minds would be enough to send my consciousness back to my body. These are your only choices if you hope to stop me and save your friends." He added with a dark laugh.
Avalonna was horrified at the dragon lord's offer. She had not expected dragons to be so cruel and cunning, imprisonment by the Nitehardts must have truly corrupted Drakar. How could she possibly make a decision such as this? She knew she could not surrender herself to Drakar, it would be the same as handing herself over to the Red King and Queen. If she did so, all of her journey would have been for nothing. Eversong would have burned for nothing. Her parents would have died for nothing. However, she also knew there was no possibility of her killing Connor.
Avalonna groaned as she was hit with another pulse from the green lighting wrapped around her. She had to think of some other way to stop Drakar. He had said the mental connection between Connor and himself could be broken with a big enough shock, such as death. Perhaps there was another way to cause such an impact.
Avalonna chanted under her breath and the chains of lightning began to disappear.
"What is your choice, witch?" Connor asked her and spat out a word before a ball of flames formed in his hand.
"I do not choose to surrender to you, Drakar, nor will I murder my own brother." Avalonna replied as she slowly arose. She remembered a spell she could try, though it was dangerous and cautioned against by her mother. She saw no other way.
"My choice, if that is what you may call it, is this." She said and began chanting with her eyes closed.
"Da fortitudinem tuam!" She called out as her eyes flashed their usual green.
Connie's eyes grew wide and he quickly tried to hurl his fireball, but to no prevail. He yelled out and cursed as a green mist flowed around the siblings and encircled Connor. His eyes began shifting from a soulless black to their normal brown
"Intriguing tactic, witch." Connor said through clenched teeth.
"You are forcing the energy of your brother and myself to go into you, to strengthen yourself and weaken me. It is a spell your mother would never have used, though one in your family might have." He added with a smirk, before yelling out once more.
"Silence! You know nothing of me or my family, Drakar. You are fortunate I do not simply destroy you for violating my brother's body. Return to your body and be banished." She responded, already feeling the combination of Connor's and Drakar's energies flowing through her. It almost became too great, she was actually relieved she would be casting a large banishing spell soon.
"Ah yes, the spell." Connor replied, his voice mixing between Drakar's and his own.
"How will you ever banish me without your brother?" He asked, his lips forming a hint of a smile. Immediately, his eyes went back to their normal color and Connor collapsed to the ground, Avalonna's spell still absorbing his magic.
