Ch. 30
Avalonna
Drakar flew high into the air, his lack of presence just as ominous as his actual one. The other dragons circled around Avalonna and her allies, but were startled when a blinding light and three people suddenly appeared.
"Connor!" Avalonna called out to her brother with a mix of surprise and joy.
"You can't be here, you and Lydia need to go inside for safety." She said, believing Connor and Lydia had no way to combat the dragons.
"It is alright, Val, we can handle ourselves." Connor replied reassuringly. He and Lydia moved at inhuman speeds and surrounded the golden dragon.
"What has happened to the two of you?" Avalonna asked, astonished.
"There is no time to explain, child. You only need know that the queen of the elves is here to help you." The woman who came with Connor and Lydia said. She appeared regal and had pointed ears, as did Lydia. She took a position behind the golden beast and began chanting spells.
'What is happening?' Avalonna couldn't help but think to herself. She did not have long to think, however, as the ice dragon roared and flew towards her and her friends. It released blasts of ice at all of them, but specifically Drow and Thol.
The dragon swung it's large spiked tail and sent Drow and Thol running for cover. It roared once more and charged at them, but was blocked by a wall of fire created by Thol. Drow's form began to change once again and he shifted from a bear into an elephant. He trumpeted loudly and rammed into the ice dragon with his large tusks. Though he was quite large, the dragon was still bigger than Drow.
The dragon hissed and blew a blast of frigid ice, freezing Drow's legs and Thol where he stood. Drow trumpeted and tried to stomp free but the dragon swiped at him with his claws and sent Drow crashing down.
"Drow!" Avalonna called out and tried to run over to him. Before she could get much closer, the shadow dragon landed in front of her and his roar shook the valley. Behind the shadow dragon, Avalonna could see the ice dragon unleash a stream of ice from it's mouth but she could not see the result of the attack.
"Drakar! You must stop this!" Avalonna yelled at the dragon king, her eyes flashing a faint green.
"I must do nothing but what my mistress wishes. Once you are gone, I shall be free." The dragon's voice boomed through Avalonna's mind. He roared again and flew at Avalonna.
In the middle of his flight, the shadow dragon was suddenly enchained by green energy strands and fell onto the ground. Avalonna turned and saw Nera and Diamandra casting spells behind her.
"Thank you for your help." Avalonna told the witches.
"You're welcome, but we must hurry. We cannot kill Drakar, but we may be able to banish him to the astral plane. However, it takes three spell casters to banish such a creature, and Nera and I have to constrain him." Diamandra stated, her voice growing weaker with ever word. She kept her eyes closed and began to sweat, despite the cold and snow.
Drakar huffed but could not roar as a magic chain held his mouth closed. His wings, tail, and limbs were also constrained.
"Get Cyra and Thol to assist you in casting the spell." Nera told Avalonna with her eyes still closed.
At the mention of Thol, Avalonna remembered the ice dragon's attack on he and Drow and she ran past the shadow dragon. The ice dragon was flying towards the sun dragon to help it against the elf queen and Avalonna's family.
Avalonna got towards where the dragon just was and gasped slightly. In front of her lay a large frozen statue of Thol. Icicles hung off him and his eyes were frozen open with a mixture of determination and resiliency. The ice even froze the ground around the Dwarven warlock solid and he looked to be made of glass and snow.
"Oh no..." Avalonna managed to say quietly. She felt the thrill of battle begin to leave her. She did not even know Thol, but his death still shook her.
The ground shook slightly as Drow ran over to her, still in his elephant form. Within a few moments he changed back to human and embraced Avalonna softly.
"I know," he started,
"But we mustn't stop fighting or he would have died in vein."
"It's not just that." Avalonna replied.
"Diamandra said we needed three spell casters to banish Drakar. Without Thol, it'll be more difficult."
"Yes, you and Connor are not very experienced, but I am sure you can do it. You have the talents and the instincts. Come, we have to go get him and the elf queen to help you." Drow stated and shifted into a rhino.
Avalonna nodded and got on the rhino's back. She and Drow charged quickly over to the battle and saw Connor redirecting a fire blast and an ice breath from the opposing dragons.
"Connor! How are you doing that?" Avalonna called out with wonderment and joined her brother.
"I am not quite sure, it just comes naturally." He replied with a smile.
The dragons roared and charged at him again but were stopped by the elf queen. Lydia moved quickly at the opportunity and shot several arrows into the dragons' hides. She moved silently and seemed to become a blur with the shadows around.
"Connor, I need you and the elf queen to assist me. We must use our powers to banish Drakar." Avalonna said.
"We will help but what about the dragons?" asked Connor.
"We can manage, Connor." Lydia replied.
"It is quite good to see you again Avalonna. Drow and I can survive until you are done, correct?"
"Yes, but I may have to go all out." Drow replied with a grin.
He reached into his pockets and threw out several of his precious stones that Avalonna admired when she first met Caspian. There were four stones, one of red, blue, green, and white. The stones landed in the ground and immediately a swirling vortex wrapped around the stones. Each one took a form corresponding to their color. Now there were beasts made of fire, ice, earth, and wind in front of Drow and they charged the dragons. He shifted into an elephant once again and charged at the dragons himself.
"You have an excellent taste in men, Val. I approve." Lydia said with a smile. Then, she too took off in a blur and unleashed arrows against the dragons
Avalonna rolled her eyes and grinned slightly.
"Stay safe, both of you. Hurry, Connor let us go." Avalonna said and she and her brother began to run towards the trapped Drakar.
