Chapter 2: Orientation

Sara stood in line, waiting for it to move as she eyed a coffee bar as she smiled. "At least they have coffee." She said to herself. "Of course they do and it's better than Starbucks in my opinion, but what do I know." Some young girl said as she looked to be about fifteen or sixteen. "Tell me more." Sara said as she smiled. "This place has anything from coffee to those expensive lattes you get from the gas station." She said. "Is this your first year?" Sara asked her. "Yeah, I'm a senior. Well, I was at my old high school but then, my parents told me I had to move here and I was fine with that because I accidentally set my chemistry project on fire and I was accused of using dark magic." She said. "Well, my mother just told me I was a witch on our way here and dropped me off, so I guess we're both in the same boat." Sara said. "I guess we are. I'm Hallie Jameson by the way." Hallie said, extending her hand. "I'm Sara McKinnon, nice to meet you Hallie." Sara said as she shook Hallie's hand. "I wonder how much different than this is from real school?" Sara asked both Bette and Hallie. "This is a real school, except they use magic and other stuff to compose and teach." Bette said. "So, what you're telling me is this is just like Harry Potter and we're at Hogwarts?" Sara questioned. "Yes, except the school is named Bella Donna." Hallie said. "Oh and we have the ranks too." Bette said. "Ranks?" Sara asked. "There are four kinds of ranks, just like the ones from the books. The ranks range from emerald, ruby, sapphire and diamond." Hallie said. "What does that mean?" Sara asked. "Read your planner, it'll tell you." Bette said as Sara opened her school planner, scanning the table of contents before finding the ranks of below to advanced and flipped to the page. "Emerald is below basic, Ruby is basic, sapphire is proficient and diamond is advanced." Sara said as she read. "Also, there's the four titles that every student holds which points you to which hall you'll be in and what classes you'll take to pass." Bette said. "Vice chancellor will tell you everything you need to know before we start asking questions." Another girl said. "How do we know which rank and title we are?" Bette asked. "The only one who knows which rank and title you are is our vice chancellor, we'll find out here in a little while. That's why it's called an orientation and dinner commensuration." The girl said. "Well, since we're getting acquainted. I'm Hallie, this is Sara and Bette." Hallie said. "I'm Hannah." Hannah said as she sounded like she was unimpressed by being around them as they were met by an older man that looked as if he was familiar. "Oh my goodness! Do you know who that is?" Bette questioned. "Yeah, but wait a minute. Why would someone famous be here?" Hallie asked as the man looked like he was terrified about the large group of young men and women. "Maybe they had a midlife crisis." Hannah said as the girls laughed as the man spoke. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen, I'm Mr. Mick Fleetwood, your vice principal." Mr. Mick spoke as everyone wondered why the man was here. "Umm dude... Aren't you like, famous?" A young man asked as everyone laughed. "I was, but my wife and I quit the business a long time ago and decided to refurbish this place again from the ground up. It's our first year and we hope you have a great experience here at Bella Donna Academy and we hope you enjoy what this place has to offer you." Mr. Mick said as we all looked at each other. "Wife?" Hallie asked them as they shrugged and converted their attention back to him. "Our vice chancellor would like to go over your schedules with you, now if you'll follow me." Mr. Mick said as he opened the beautiful mahogany door to what looked at like a auditorium as we walked into the dark space as we were met by a glow of orange light in front of a fireplace, roaring while it cracked and popped from the wood burning hot as the lady standing in front of it heard footsteps approaching. "Angel, all of our students are here. I have the clipboard right here and everyone is here and accounted for." Mr. Mick said as the lady turned around and everyone's eyes went wide as she had a smile on her face. "Holy hell, it's the white witch herself." Hallie whispered to us as Sara's eyes went big. "Hello, I'm Stephanie Nicks-Fleetwood. You must be my first bunch of people." She said as everyone was standing there with their eyes adverted and their mouths ajar, taking in her beauty. "Ma'am?" The young boy from earlier asked with his hand raised. "Yes?" She asked. "Aren't you famous?" He asked as everyone rolled their eyes. "I guess I am but honestly, I don't even know anymore but I do see a bunch of these young ladies and gentlemen, wearing t-shirts with my face and quotes on them." She said. "Why did you quit singing?" Another girl asked. "I didn't. I just thought about my life and what would make me happy and then, I saw this building, old and run down, so Mr. Mick and I thought we'd remodel it and make it into a school for people who are misunderstood for who they are." She said. "But witches aren't real. I mean, it's just a tale someone made up." A girl said. "You might not understand it now but you are all witches and wizards. Your magic is slowly building, it's strong and very powerful, you are about to find that out when some day it gets too much and you accidentally destroy something, preferably not in the building or anyone but you'll know when it happens. Your training is about to begin and after a week of basic courses, that's when your power will kick in and you'll begin classes for different levels of which rank and title you are." Mrs. Stevie said as everyone looked at each other. "This is something we could have easily took a test for online, I mean for goodness sakes lady, this makes no sense whatsoever and some of us have actual lives and then, we get shipped off to this place!" Another girl exclaimed. "I know you don't think this seems real but it is. It sounds crazy and you don't believe me but think about your ancestors and the tales you've been told. Some of them were witches, even men were witches at one point but then, the masculine term of wizard came about and it changed it for them. I know what I'm talking about and please believe me when I say that your magic will grow beyond your wildest beliefs." She said. "Then, do a spell for us." The girl said as Mrs. Stevie looked at her and used her hands to use her choice if magic, that was until she made the girl disappear which everyone was surprised about. "Did you see that?" Hallie asked them. "Yes." Sara said as she looked at her vice chancellor. "Anymore questions before we go on our tour of the school?" Mrs. Stevie asked. Everyone stayed quiet as Mr. Mick reappeared as they linked arms together. "You are excused and everyone is more than welcome to go get a snack from the cafeteria or the vending machines before we start the tour." Mrs. Stevie said before everyone filed out of the room but them. "Hey angel, are you okay?" He asked her. "I'm fine honey." She said. "Are you sure?" He asked, worried about her. "I'm sure, now let's go start orientation before everyone gets out of hand." She said as they walked out of the room as he kissed her head.
