Chapter 17

"They have come," Kiara was trembling. It was becoming difficult to see the faces of each other due to the fog which was enveloping us. But I could make out the shapes of Prayaas and Aashim. Rohan and Ryan looked at me and Kiara respectively.

"We must be ready," Rohan said.

"You are right," Ryan said.

"There is no need for fighting," Prayaas said, as he came towards us, "We can sort this out."

"I have a deal for you," Aashim said to Rohan looking at him with hungry eyes.

"I have no time for your bullshit," Rohan said. Sometimes I was shocked by Rohan's aggression and bitterness. I could not believe that this was the same place where he was confessing his love for me and Aparajita.

"I love your daughter, Rohan," Aashim said, "I love Mia the same way I have loved Aparajita. I knew that she was Aparajita's daughter the same day she began flirting with me to take revenge of Aparajita's death. I can never forget Aparajita. How could you think that you could hide her daughter with me?"

"Enough of your nonsense. You can never love anyone, Aashim," Rohan said bitterly.

Prayaas yawned, "I am tired of these complicated love stories. In short, the deal is this, Rohan, you let Aashim have Mia and you will not present any hindrance in our mission of ruling over the humans, we have no need to fight."

"Ryan, what are you doing here with this betrayer, Kiara? It seems that you too are following your twin's path," Aashim said, "I don't know what you both brothers seem in this worthless humans. They should be crushed under our feet. Their destruction is necessary for our survival"

Rohan chanted,

I summon all the forces of nature

Create a spatial vortex to save the innocent

I could see the waves of energy overlapping and revolving and finally a tunnel was created. The tunnel was not made of matter; it was all energy.

"Run Anika, run," Rohan screamed, "I will take care of Aashim and Prayaas."

I held Kiara's hand and entered into the tunnel. We ran until I had reached my room in the hostel. It was the safest place for us in Nemtenh.

But as we reached my room, someone was sitting on the chair. It was Nia!

"You!" I was shocked to death, "What are you doing here?"

"Can't you see," Nia smiled, "I have heard that you have the gift of dream-walking."

I remained silent.

"Let's me see how gifted you are," Nia smiled and chanted,

"Moments lost,

Make witches wonder

Warlock's plot or

Demon's plunder

I wish to open the door

My memories are secret no more."

"Close your eyes," Nia ordered.

"I am not your slave," I said.

Nia twisted my hands, Kiara tried to save me but Nia was too strong and forcibly she closed my eyes.

I saw Nia in her early-twenties. She was fatter; no, she was pregnant. She was screaming. The midwives were whispering, "This is not good. Her husband is dead and she belongs to the family of Salem witches."

"No," Nia said, forcing her voice to come out of her throat, "My husband died in the Iraq war, but what is the fault of my child in that?"

"This child is the child of satan. You are a descendent of Salem witches. Don't we know what it means?" One of the woman shouted.

"Spare my child," Nia cried, folding her hands, "I beg you. Let her live."

One midwife smiled, "The child of Satan is dead!"

I had come out of Nia's memories now. Kiara was staring at us like a corpse due to Nia's immobility charm.

"Now, tell me, Anika," Nia held me by my hair and dragged me in a tunnel of energy she had created, "Who is more evil? The humans or the witches and vampires?"

"How have you come to my room?" I said, "I had put protection spell on it. No one can break the spell unless hundred non-Wiccans agree. How can you do that?"

Nia said, "You are so naive, Nia. Don't you know the non-Wiccan population of Nemtenh is more than hundred? The residents of Nemtenh had striked a deal with me and Prayaas. They would hand over you and the vampire brothers to us, and we would spare their lives. I pity  you and Rohan. You have always wanted to protect the humans and Nemtenh and they have gifted you to be killed by us." Nia laughed. Her laughter was like a earthquake in my life. I could not believe that the people of Nemtenh had betrayed us. But before I could react, I found myself inside the castle of Tristeka!
