The Dragon
It was a very unusual day for Lillian, and she hoped it would be better. They were at a pub, and she sat next to Geralt while he was drinking. But she was reading a book, but men kept coming up to her and flirting with her. Geralt was glaring them away, but one, in particular, didn't seem to mind that Geralt was there or even really cared.
He sat down next to her innocently enough, that was until he touched her thigh as they were talking, and before he knew it. She smacked the man in the face with the book she was reading. Geralt looked at them as she proceeded to slap him across the face.
"I'm a married woman; thank you!" She said, making Geralt smile.
Geralt loved that tone of voice she gave them. If they didn't get the hint, he would step in. He loved how mad she would get at them and was waiting for her to throw a man across the room with her powers. Geralt was going to miss her... that man was so lucky to have her, and he wished he had her heart. But she was married, so his feeling wasn't right. He wished they were because he wanted to act on them and do things right for once. But he messed up again; now she was hoping that Yennefer and he would stay together. Geralt wanted her and only her but kept breaking her heart as well as his own.
Geralt sighed a bit as an older man dropped his things as soon as he saw Lillian. Lillian was attractive sure, but I wasn't attracted to her but shocked to see her. The man knew her. FINALLY, a man that knew her. That could be her husband... now he was hurt. He walked over with two black women that were very intimidating to Jaskier, but he was going to flirt with them anyway.
"Hello, my name is Villentretenmerth, and I need your services," the man said as Geralt drank his drink.
"Hi! I'm Lillian, and this is Jaskier; this is Geralt," Lillian said happily as the man smiled at her as a dad would at his daughter when she had there the first boyfriend over.
It was strange that he was looking at her that way, but there had to be a reason.
"Do you know Lillian?" Geralt asked as Lillian looked at Geralt oddly.
"Geralt, we just met this man, and you are already overprotective of me. Stop it and hear the man out for a job," she said as he looked at Lillian.
"I was asking because he dropped everything when he saw you," he said.
"Mistaken identity, now be nice and stop being overprotective of me!" Lillian said as she glared at him.
The man smiled kindly at the three of them and sighed.
"You remind me of an old friend I had. She was ageless and still beautiful as the day I met her. She was married to a furious, protective, scared man that would kill you with a glare but was a very gentle person when it came to her," he said sadly.
"So you loved her, that's very sweet," Lillian smiled.
"Everyone did; she had the kindest heart that anyone ever met. Fearless to, she would even stand up to a witcher or a dragon if it meant keeping the peace," he chuckled.
"What happened to her?" Lillian asked.
"Well, their village was attacked. Everyone was killed, well, all except my friend. I thought my friend was dead when I found her, but no, she wasn't. Her husband was lying next to her, dead, and she couldn't take the grief. Everyone my friend loved was gone, houses burned even the children she cared for in the village weren't spared. My friend died ten days later of a broken heart. She was about your age if I remember correctly when she passed. Or a bit older, thirty, I think. She married that man when she was twenty, and she loved him more than her own life. She couldn't have children, but she loved every creature big or small like her own," he sighed weakly.
No wonder he dropped everything. He thought he saw a ghost of his past. Lillian was kind to him and had no understanding of why. He had pushed her away and hurt her heart in many ways, yet she was still there. Maybe he was giving him advice.
"I'm sorry for your losses; she sounded amazing," Lillian smiled sadly.
"She was the most beautiful creature inside and out. I miss her dearly, but I still see her in the people I meet. When I saw you with the witcher, I could have sworn it was her. She could make friends with anyone. I wouldn't doubt that she would try very hard to be friends with a witcher. Anyway, enough sad talk, the job is to kill a dragon. It has been spotted not too far from here in the mountains. My name is Villentretenmerth, and I want this to be my last adventure. I'm old, and there aren't many firsts I have left," he said.
"A dragon?! Why would you kill a dragon? They are rare and need to be protected, not killed. No treasure is worth dying for anyway," Lillian growled.
"I have already gathered three teams to help me kill the creature. Just need a fourth," Villentretenmerth said as Yennefer came in.
"I'm in," he said as he looked at her.
"What kind of witcher are you?! Killing a dragon... how could you even think about doing that!" She growled.
"If you don't like it, stay here," he said as she looked at him, annoyed.
"Well, Geralt of Riva, I am going but protecting it!" She informed.
"Why would you protect a beast like that?" Jaskier asked.
"They are rare, creatures like that lay an egg, and if it gets moved, the dragon dies. Not many are left because of human cruelty and greed. They don't understand something that isn't one of them, and they have to kill it before asking questions. It's barbaric, and if I have to convince all of you otherwise how stupid it is, then fine," Lillian said as Geralt rolled his eyes.
"Not going to happen; my mind is made up," Geralt informed.
"Well yeah, because your girlfriend came here for it! Geralt is a witch, and to stay young forever, they must sacrifice their womb to maintain their beautiful appearance. There is no reversing it! Get your head out of your pants and put it back on your shoulders! No magic on this earth can," Lillian informed as she hit him in the back of the head with her book ticking him off.
She left to get some supplies and hurried as fast as she could so they wouldn't leave without her.
"Wow, she is a contentious one. I can see why you like her so much," Villentretenmerth said.
"She is a pain in my ass," he muttered.
"She seems very kind; it is unlike any witcher to have a woman by their side other than for sleeping with. It is very refreshing that she is with you," he smiled.
Lillian got a lot of snacks for the journey; not sure why but she did. Maybe she could ask Geralt not to kill the Dragon, but perhaps he was saying he would kill it but was protecting it. He was so confusing, and if she was disappointed in him. How could he do that? Was it like killing one of his brothers?
"Still mad?" Geralt said as she finished packing her bag.
"You want to kill a dragon! A dragon that could be protecting an egg, how can you do that, Geralt? Might as well kill one of your brothers while we are at it," she said coldly.
"This is different," he informed.
"How?! Tell me how rare creatures don't deserve a chance to live. It destroyed a mountainside, big deal! Geralt, what if I was a dragon? Would you kill me too if you knew I was a dragon?" She asked.
"No, I wouldn't," he said.
"Highly dought that right now, you are just going because that girl wants to kill it," she informed.
"I thought you liked Yennefer," he said.
"Geralt! Look, okay, I know she is a woman, and you like her a lot more than you do me, obviously because she is "bigger" in the two obvious places I'm not and can control her magic. I can't d it, and since you like big-breasted women that are witches, I feel like you are going replace me or even leave me behind somewhere. It wouldn't be hard for you to do either. Just tell her she can't have kids, alright? Getting a dragon's heart will not cure her. Witches have to give something up to be that beautiful," she said softly without looking at him.
"I'm not replacing you, Lillian, I want to help you find your husband, and I told you I was going to, didn't I?" He asked as she sighed. Forget, Geralt; it's not like I will find him a life anyway. You keep suggesting that he is dead or moved on," she said as he sighed a bit.
He put a hand on her shoulder, but she took it off as she tried to seem busy.
"I'm not giving up because you deserve to be happy, and I know that you are angry with me since I want to kill it. But that is not my real intention; you seem to think it had a family, but why?" He asked.
"I don't know, a feeling. But it could be anything," she said as he put both hands on her shoulders.
"You are a mother; you have that instinct to protect the egg that may or may not be there. You have been only thinking of its family, so if it has one, I will protect it. I will not let the creature be alone like you have been. It isn't right or fair," he said as she sighed a bit.
"You better not lie to me," she said as she turned to face him.
"Tell me if I'm lying to you," he said as she looked into his soft golden eyes.
"Okay, you aren't lying yet. Just be careful, okay?" She asked as he nodded.
Her mother instincts kicked in, so a child must have been involved. Otherwise, she wouldn't be acting this way. Her last instinct was right so that this one could be too.
