Chapter Sixteen: Sure?
After the talk in the coach's office, we all went our different ways, Scott going to see if he could talk Derek down. Allison went to see if the person she had in mind could translate the Kanima description. Stiles was on Lydia duty until we could meet up and protect her. As they were doing their jobs, I went to my locker and took the first aged book I placed my hand on, and with my luck it was thick.
I sighed, as I unwrapped it from it's bounds, to then flip it open to see old drawings of different creatures, inscriptions about the creatures, ways to kill them, weaknesses, etc. Book's like these always come in handy when you need to learn about supernatural creatures.
I flipped through the pages, as fast as I could, reading the titles over. But there was nothing so far, no mention of the Kanima. I don't think I will find anything in these books, the Kanima is rare, if it wasn't I would have found something about it now. I huff as I slam the book shut, grabbing two more similar to this one from my locker. I stacked the three books as I used my elbow to close my locker shut.
I began to walk down the empty hall, but came to a stop. My hearing picked up, claws being dragged across lockers. You know like nails on a chalkboard. I know what that means. There here to kill Lydia. Hopefully, Stiles and Allison would take Lydia from school to somewhere safe.
I took my leave from the school, knowing that the day was over. As I came to the lacrosse pitch, I saw Boyd, Derek and Scott who were down on the ground. I couldn't stick around and help him, I needed to get home just in case things go south and I need to do a protection spell on Lydia. As Derek and Boyd were distracted with Scott and no one was around. I pushed off with all my strength in my legs and used my vampire speed to clear the pitch, without any of them seeing me.
I hoped this plan would work out....
But when did any of our plans work out...
...........................................................
I had reached home as there was little of the day left. I had no time to feed, but I had enough strength to get me through the night. I placed the books back on the bookshelf with my other vast collections. I also grabbed a plain black duffel bag from upstairs and started to throw in ingredients that I might need for a protection spell or something more extreme. I peered over the desk which had piles of books and my Grimoire, which sat in the middle of the desk. I grabbed the book and placed it into the duffel bag, adding more to its weight. But it had the most powerful spells held within its pages.
I zip up the duffel bag and flung it around my shoulder, before heading to the front door of my house, slipping out, slamming the door behind me. I took a few steps down the path, before a beep came from my phone, I pulled it from the back of my light blue jeans pocket, just in time to see the message from Allison, saying that they were at Scott's house. I gave myself a firm nod, before sliding the phone back into my jeans pocket. I took a few more steps before using my vamp-speed, in mid-step to go to Scott's house, cutting down the arrival time.
Within minutes, I came to Scott's house, coming to a halt just inches from Stiles's jeep. I waste no time in going up to his front door, and knocking on it. I could hear two heartbeats from behind the door, pumping quickly.
"It's me," I assured them, as their heartbeats came down, and I heard a sigh of relief come from Stiles. Bolts and locks began to unbuckle from the other side, making me raise an eyebrow, before the door swung open to reveal Stiles, looking slightly worn.
Stiles didn't talk as he ushered me in, making me have no time to process him grabbing me and pulling me in, before shutting the door behind us and bolting it back up, for protection.
I stood in McCall's hallway, facing the now locked back up door, as Stiles peered through the window next to the door, pulling the curtain aside so he could peek. Allison held her crossbow in her hands, as she turned to face me.
"Did you see Derek on the way here?" Allison asks, holding her crossbow up, ready to fire it at any time.
"No," I replied instantly, shaking my head to her as she sighs in relief. Her eyes casted from mine to the duffel bag over my shoulder.
"Please tell me those are weapons?" Stiles had asked, making me shoot my gaze to him, which he had his eyes upon the duffel bag.
"Sorry to disappoint, but they aren't weapons," I replied, as I shrugged the duffel bag off my shoulder and dropped it to the floor, the bag making a small 'thud' when it connected to the wooden floor. "It's a few things that can help us, if things get out of hand,"
"Like magic potions that can turn them into small animals?" Stiles asked, a glint of excitement in his whisky coloured eyes.
"What's your obsession with them being turned into animals? They are already animals," I replied back to him, giving him a knowing look. He looked confused for a few moments, processing it. Before his face lit up, knowing I was right. I chuckled slightly at his ability to make people laugh in this time of crisis.
He just turns around embarrassed -so to speak- peering through the window, keeping an eye out for Derek and the rest.
"Did you find anything?" Allison asked, taking a few steps forward.
"Nothing in the books, but I have hundreds. I'll keep looking," I said to her as she gave me a nod, before I bent over to unzip the duffel bag, and pull out my Grimoire.
Pulling it open to a random page in the middle. I peered up from my lashes to see Stiles taking a peek at what I was holding. "Another book?" He asked, with a slightly puzzled face.
"It's called a Grimoire," I replied to Stiles, holding the open book to my chest, as I spoke.
"A Grim-what?" Stiles retorted back, tilting his head to the side. Not knowing what the word meant. But I should have known.
"Remind me to give you a lesson on Witchcraft," I state to Stiles, before bringing the book back out, so I could flip over the pages, finding the right spell. To be fair, I don't even know what spell I'm looking for.
After a few moments of flicking through the aged pages, I peered up from the book to see Stiles holding a worried expression and Allison dialling someone.
"It's me," Allison began, as she held the cellphone to her ear. "You need to get here now. Right now," her voice was slightly shaken, and I could have a guess who was outside. I walked forward to the window, as Stiles held the curtain open for me. My eyes scanned the yard, until I met four people across the road from Scott's house. It was Derek and his pack.
From the right, I see Allison drop the phone from her ear as she now peered outside, looking at the trio. I pulled back from the window, bringing my spell book to eye view, as I flipped the aged pages once more. I need to find something fast. They aren't here to talk, they are here to kill Lydia, but if I could only talk to Derek, try to make him change his mind.
"Oh, jeez," I heard Stiles say after he sighed, finding it nerve wracking to be in a situation like this. "What are you doing?" I then heard him ask, my back to Stiles and Allison.
"I think..." Allison started, as she took a moment to consider her options. I turned to look at her to see that she brought her sleeve under her nose, not wanting to make the decision. "I think I have to call my dad," her hand dropped as the words left her mouth. I could just tell that she didn't want to call her Dad, but she needed to because he would know what to do.
"No, but if he finds you here, you and Scott..." Stiles stated, worried for the young couple.
"I know," she had cut him off, knowing where it was going. "But what are we supposed to do? They're not here to scare us, okay? They're here to kill Lydia," Allison stressed out to us.
"Then let me talk to Derek," I spoke with confidence, making Stiles and Allison shoot their heads around to stare at me, giving me the crazy look. "This is our only hope. If I can make him reconsider or stall him even, it buys us time,"
"What if they hurt you?" Stiles asked, his face full of concern for me. I found it really sweet, that he cares for me, you can just tell. It's in his eyes. But I did take his words into consideration, making me ponder if something did happen to me.
I thought for a moment, my gaze moving from Stiles to the front door, knowing that it was worth a shot. My eyes met with Stiles once again, as I gave him a thin smile. "I'll take the risk," I came forward, and stared at the door as it began to unbolt and unlock by itself. Within seconds the bolt and lock was done, and the chair that was under the door knob moved across the floor, just enough I could get passed. I closed my Grimoire and held it out to Stiles. "Don't rip the pages," I state to him, before getting a grip on the door knob and pulling it open, making it wide enough for me to slip out without fully opening it.
Derek had now moved from across the street to Scott's house, where Stiles's jeep lay. All eyes turn to me from the wolf pack. I took a few steps from the front door, standing on the porch of Scott's house.
"Derek, please reconsider this. You're going to murder an innocent girl," my voice carried through the night air.
"She's not innocent, she turns into a lizard and kills people," Derek replied, sure of his answer, but I didn't believe it was Lydia. "She failed the test, you were there,"
"What if she's immune? She was bitten but she didn't turn, why isn't this the same?" I retorted back to him.
"I've never heard of it. Never. No one can be immune," Derek stated, once again so sure of himself, but I bet he doesn't know half of what is truly out there.
But was I willing to fight for Lydia's life, to protect her from this threat...
Hell would have to freeze over to stop me...
