Chapter Fifteen: Oh Boy
After Econ it was time for the next lesson which was Chemistry. If Derek was truly going to test Lydia, this would be the perfect lesson to do so.
I had gotten to the Chemistry lab, Scott and Stiles weren't here yet, but Lydia was. I took the station to the right of her, which was empty, plus Allison was in this lesson as well, so saving her a seat was vital. I opened my notepad, and now my Chemistry book. Waiting for class to begin. Just as I look back up from the Chemistry book, I see Stiles and Scott enter the classroom, talking to one another. Just hearing the back end of their conversation, which was where they tested Lydia. They must be real dumb if she isn't going to be tested here.
"I think here and now," Scott had said to Stiles looking to the back of the class. I took my gaze to the back to see Issac and Erica standing at the back, gaze locked with Scott and Stiles. I turned back around to face Scott, as his eyes darted from the seat next to Lydia to Erica at the back. Right on point, Scott and Stiles dashed forward, and I sure Erica and Issac did the same.
I rolled my eyes at them, just as Allison joined the mix, she sat in the seat next to me, looking at Scott weirdly, before he nodded his head backwards, gesturing towards Erica. She turned to look at Erica for a moment as Erica did the same.
"Einstein once said, 'Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity' and I'm not sure about the universe. I myself have encountered infinite stupidity," Harris states as he walked down the walk-way, before stopping at Stiles and patting his shoulder, indicating he was stupid. "So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments," Harris now faced the front of the class. "Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one," he took a small pause as he looked to Stiles, his hands on his waist. "Or in Mr Stilinski's case, less than one," I held back a laugh, as Harris could get to your funny bone.
"Erica, you take the first station. You'll start with..." But before Harris could finish, all the male students put their hands up in the air, wanting to be put together with Erica. I even saw a girl put up her hand, but who could blame her...
"I didn't ask for volunteers. Put your hormonal little hands down," one by one students put their hands down. "Start with Mr McCall. All right, next two," I know this isn't going to end well, for any of us.
After Harris paired us up, we began to do the experiment. I had gotten paired with Stiles, Allison had Lydia, so we were safe for now. I began to read the instructions and started to measure things out, then poured them into the beaker.
"Can't you do something?" Stiles had asked in a quiet voice, making me turn my head to him, with a raised eyebrow.
"And what would you like me to do Stiles?" My voice carried through the air, as I turned back to the beaker and poured in another mixture.
"Like put a curse on them, or turn them into animals," he replied with slight excitement in his voice, eyeing me up from the side.
"You know it's more difficult than just waving my hand out to them, right?" I replied to Stiles as I finished pouring the liquid into the beaker, my eyes going back to their whisky coloured eyes which were Stiles's.
Suddenly, the bell dings which Harris had tapped, notifying us to move to another station. I got up from the stool, took my books with me, and went to the station behind. As Stiles got Issac, Lydia got Scott, Allison got Erica, and I had some random hormonal teenage boy, eyeing me up. I sat on the stool, giving the blonde haired boy a quick smile, before unscrewing a jar top, pouring the right amount of mixture into the beaker.
As I was deep into making the experiment, the bell dinged once again, making me gather my things and move to the next station. Which was next to Stile and Scott's station, I had some teenage girl sit next to me, quiet and focused on getting this experiment done.
"What are you gonna do to her?" I heard Allison ask Erica, wanting to know what will happen to Lydia if she doesn't pass the test.
"Don't you think the better question is what's she going to do to us?" Erica responded, making me tuck a few strands of hairs behind my ear. They were quiet for a moment, as I tried to make myself look less inconspicuous as I tried to listen in.
"I have to say, you guys are cute together," Erica began, referring to Allison and Scott as a couple. "But you know, I've always had this feeling like I'm a little psychic,"
Oh no she didn't... She pulled my card...
"I just don't think you're going to last," Erica finished off, she was trying to get under Allison's skin.
"You think you can hurt me by sliding your hand up his thigh?" Allison retorted back in a calm manner, knowing that it really didn't bother her.
"Would you like it better if it were your thigh?" Erica responded smugly. I heard Allison's heart beat quicker, as if she was in trouble or Erica was doing something. "Come on. Girl fights in the lab. It'll be hot," Just then I heard the piercing of skin and a small amount of blood rushing to the surface of the wound. It was Allison's blood.
Suddenly, the bell dings for one last time. "Time," Harris states from behind his desk while he is sitting. "If you've catalysed the reaction correctly, you should now be looking at a crystal," I peer to the beaker to see that it was a crystal and the experiment was a success. I looked over to Scott and Stiles to see that their reaction was nowhere near what we had or the rest of the class had.
"Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy, you can eat it," Harris states, making me look at the girl next to me, holding the crystal with tongs, but I nodded to her, gesturing she can eat it, if she likes. My gaze took to Lydia who picked the crystal from the tongs that Issac had holding out to her. From where I sat, I could see that the crystal had the substance from the Kanima laced on it. Lydia neared the crystal to her mouth and was about to eat it.
"Lydia!" Scott shouts to her, making me turn my gaze to him with a frown, as he was half out of his seat. He couldn't do much here without being exposed, he would have to let this run its course.
"What?" She replied with innocence, not really knowing what he just said her name in an outburst tone. Scott looked around the room for a moment.
"Nothing," he states, as he pulls his stool back to him and sits back down. Lydia turns slightly back around, and starts to eat the crystal. I could hear the crunches from where I sat, but the toxin didn't do anything to her, she was perfectly fine. Allison and I shared a look, a look which was worrying for our friend, and knew what it meant.
Nothing good at all...
.............................................................
After Chemistry was over, Scott had taken Stiles, Allison and I, to the coach's office in the boys locker room. Stiles opened the door, going in first, me behind and Scott and Allison following.
"Derek's outside waiting for Lydia," He states as he shuts the door behind himself. I leaned against the desk which was in the room, my eyes focused on him.
"Waiting to kill her?" Allison had asked, but Scott wasn't sure of that himself.
"If he thinks she's the Kanima, then yes," Allison and I sigh. "Especially after what happened at the pool," Scott finished off.
"It's not her," Stiles interjected, knowing deep down it wasn't her, but he couldn't be sure, he had faith it wasn't her.
"Stiles, she didn't pass the test, man. Nothing happened," Scott replied back to him.
"Well it doesn't matter because Derek thinks it's her," I said to the trio, as they looked at me.
"So either we can convince him that he's wrong, or we've got to figure out a way to protect her," Allison states from the side of me, using her hands as a way to express her feelings, before taking her gaze to Scott as Stiles paces around.
"I really don't think he's gonna do anything here, not at school,"
"What about after school?" Allison had asked the jackpot question, it was always the possibility that he could attack her after school. Scott only sighs as she knew she was right, making Allison lean forward, before coming back up.
"What if we can prove that Derek's wrong?
"By 3:00?" I replied, looking at her from the side.
"There could be something in the bestiary or something that Alice might have," Allison states to the group.
"Oh, you mean the 900 page book written in archaic Latin that none of us can read? Good luck with that," Stiles states, knowing that we couldn't read it.
"And I still have tons of books that I need to read," I state, running a hand through my blonde hair, putting a few strands behind my ear.
"Actually, I think I know someone who might be able to translate it," Allison states, going off topic for a moment as the idea came to her. We did need the book to be translated to get a better idea of the Kanima.
"Um... I can talk to Derek, maybe convince him to give us a chance to prove that it's not her," Scott states, it's the best idea he came up with, because nothing else was going to work. "But if anything happens, you guys let me handle it, okay?" His voice changed, it held worry for us three.
"What does that mean?" Allison replied, we all know she can handle herself.
"It means you can't heal like I do,"
"And you can cast spells like I do," I replied with a grin on my face, my gaze to Scott, knowing that it was true, but he was still demanding to let him handle this.
"I don't want you guys getting hurt," he states with a soft tone, meaning that he meant it. Allison stood from the desk and began to rummage through her bag. After a moment, she pulled out a hand-held crossbow, before flicking it down to the ground, as it popped open, already having a small arrow in it.
"I can protect myself," she replied with a strong, confident voice, holding the crossbow up.
Scott looked at her for a moment, processing the information. "What?" Allison said, putting the crossbow down onto her bag, facing Scott's face. "Did something else happen?"
Scott swallowed the lump in his throat as Allison meant everything to him. "I just don't want you getting hurt. Seriously, if anything goes wrong, you call me okay?" I watched this heart filled moment, knowing right here was true love. "I don't care if your dad finds out. Call, text, scream, yell, whatever. I'll hear you and I'll find you as fast as I can," I see Allison nod, agreeing with him. "We have until 3:00,"
Allison and I nod to him as he begins to turn and heads for the door. Just as he is about to leave, I hear a hissing noise, like an arrow being shot. With Scott's new reflexes, he turns just in time to catch the arrow, before it could hit him. I rolled my eyes, as Allison held her hand out.
"Uh..." Stiles states, holding the crossbow in his hand, looking surprised on what just happened. "Sorry. Sorry," he hands it to Allison. "It's a sensitive trigger on that," trying to make up an excuse.
Hopefully our plan would work, but if it didn't, magic was the back up plan...
