The Cursed Town
Shelby's Perspective-
Shelby had spent most of the day saying hello to people.
She had already met a colorful man, a girl who was wearing a mask and had a tail, a short guy who said he was the sheriff, and now a princess.
"Hi!" Shelby said, stretching out her hand, "I'm Shelby!"
The girl looked stunned.
"W-what are you..."
She blinked and then shook Shelby's hand.
"Katherine." She said.
"Cool!" Shelby smiled, "Is this your shop? Are you the tailor?"
"Tailor and princess." She nodded, a cold look on her face.
Shelby got nervous but kept talking, "Okay! Well I'm the witch here! If you have any problems, you come to me!"
"Yes, Scott told me about you. About how you live in the mangrove forest."
"Yep! That's my town! Evermore!"
"Why are you here?" Katherine asked, "Do you need something?"
"Oh, er- I actually was just visiting. Walking around and seeing all the towns."
Katherine nodded, opening up her bag and putting a beat-up fedora on the work bench.
"So where did you come from?" Katherine asked, folding her arms.
"Uh- the academy. They sent me here to prove that I'm a witch."
"The academy?" Katherine asked, tilting her head, confused.
Shelby nodded, "Yep! I've been going there for years. I'm not great..."
Shelby trailed off, the harsh voices from the head teachers expelling her rang in her head.
Katherine's cold stare turned to concern.
"Sorry for bringing that up," She said before looking out the window, "I gotta go now. I have a meeting to attend."
Shelby nodded, "Okay! And remember, if there's any trouble- "
"Go to you. Yeah, yeah, I understand." Katherine said, rolling her eyes but there was still a smile on her face.
She waved goodbye and left.
Shelby waved back and watched as Katherine walked up to the castle.
Shelby then spotted someone flying down to Katherine.
She had ginger hair and an orange dress on.
She also had butterfly wings.
She smiled and got into a conversation with Katherine.
And for the first time, Shelby saw Katherine smile.
Huh. She thought, walking out into the town. Weird how that works.
As she walked around, she started talking to some of the villagers.
They were nice, but also a bit nervous.
"So what's the story with this village?" Shelby asked a baker.
"Glimmer Grove?" She asked, kneading the dough, "You don't know the story?"
"Er- no."
"Well...our town is cursed."
Shelby's eyes widened, "What?"
The woman nodded, "At least that's what some people think. I believe it's a myth and that princess Katherine is a good ruler, but some people think she's cursed."
"Why?"
"Because when Katherine was born, an earthquake struck this town. Many believed that it was Katherine's fault and that she was cursed. But princess Katherine is a fine young lady who certainly is not cursed."
Shelby nodded, thinking.
"And what are you doing, dear? I don't think we've ever met before. Are you moving to Glimmer Grove?" The woman asked.
Shelby shook her head, "No. I'm living in the mangrove forest."
The woman's eyes widened, "The mangrove forest?! That's no safe place for anyone. I'd recommend moving here, or at least Sanctuary."
Shelby tilted her head, "Sanctuary?"
The woman nodded, "Yes, Sanctuary. A town in the jungle. Sausage rules there. He is very kind."
Shelby smiled, "I'll go check it out, thank you!"
"Of course, dear. And I hope to see you again soon."
"Same here!" Shelby said before dashing out.
She took out her wand and waved it around, making her broom appear.
She got on the broom and started flying up towards the jungle.
-
Shelby landed in a colorful town.
It was full of many tall buildings and animals.
Shelby stepped off of her broom and put it over her shoulder as she walked around.
"Hola!"
Shelby jumped and turned around.
She saw a man running up to her.
He wore a kind smile and an outfit full of neutral colors.
"I'm Sausage!" He said, grabbing Shelby's hand and shaking it, "Welcome to Sanctuary!"
She blinked, he spoke very fast and enthusiastically.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"Er- Shelby. I'm the witch of this town."
"You're the what?"
"The witch! If you ever have a problem, you can come to me!"
Sausage blinked before gasping, making Shelby flinch.
"Do you know anything about teleporting to other places?" He asked.
"Er—no, sorry." Shelby said, smiling nervously.
"Oh..." Sausage said, his face falling.
"But," Shelby started, "I can go back to my books and see if there's anything about it!"
"Really? Thanks!"
Sausage then took Shelby on a tour of the town.
When Shelby introduced Tortoise, Sausage started talking to him.
Shelby watched in amazement.
"Are you a wizard?" She asked.
Sausage looked up from Tortoise and he chuckled, "No, no. I just have the power to speak to animals."
"Cool! So I'm guessing you were born with it?"
Sausage nodded, "Everyone in my town was."
"Everyone here can talk to animals?"
Sausage shook his head, "My old town. It...it was burned down. I ran away and created Sanctuary; the place where people can go when they've got nowhere to go. In my old town, everyone was born with a power."
"Wow." Shelby said breathlessly.
Sausage laughed and then looked up at the sky, "Want to stay here for the night? I can see if we have any rooms in the tavern."
Shelby saw the moon start to rise and shrugged, "Why not?"
Sausage led her to the tavern and got her set up in one of the rooms.
She saw a sheriff toy on the nightstand and giggled.
"Here Tortoise." Shelby said, putting Tortoise down on the toy.
He croaked before falling asleep.
She kissed his forehead before falling asleep on the bed.
