Chapter 15: Not Your Normal Hero
Ever since I found that book I have been on edge.
This girl I am seeing in my dreams and my visions is my mate. She is out there somewhere possibly looking for me or just waiting for me to find her.
The book said that the dreams start when mates are close to each other so obviously I have probably met her.
I know she isn't in the coven, nobody has brown hair and blue eyes or is playful enough to play whatever Tag is. I mean not even Naomi is that playful.
My next suspect was Ava but she has orange hair so she's ruled out.
Maybe she is in the village and I haven't seen her? But now isn't the time to think about this, right now I have to get to training.
I threw on some fresh clothes, washed my face, and ran downstairs.
" You are going to be late." My mam hissed, sipping her bone tea while reading her spellbook.
" Good morning to you too."
" Just get out of here." She growled.
" Come on Halin let's go!" I called.
Halin swooped down onto my shoulder and we set off for the temple.
Last night we had more rain. It's always like this when winter is approaching.
Today I decided not to go through Hawthorn. So I started down a trail that went around the village.
As I was walking I passed a meadow. In the center of the meadow stood an old stone water well. Weeds and flowers were growing up the stone. The mechanism that pulled the rope looked rusty. But it wasn't the well that caught my eye, it was a girl standing by the well.
Something was telling me to stay and watch her. I wanted to resist this feeling but I lost to my desire. I hid behind a tree and watched as she drew water from the well.
" What are we doing master?"
" Shh."
As she pulled the bucket up she started singing a sweet tune. Her voice was graceful like a bird.
Normally I don't like gospel music but she sings Hallelujah like a goddess.
Damn, she has a beautiful voice !!
" Wow, she's great master."
" Yeah, she is. But we should get going."
As I started turning I noticed a man running to the girl.
" Master we have to go."
" Hold on a minute."
The man grabbed the girl from behind and tossed her to the ground. She landed with a thud, a scream ripped from her throat.
Anger began to pulse through my veins.
How dare he touch her!
Wait Tobias what's wrong with you?
You don't even know this girl!
She started to scramble up but he kicked her down and held her down with his muddy boot. She groaned as she struggled, trying to remove his boot from her chest.
"Give me your necklace! " He yelled.
" Make me ." She hissed.
Damn this chick has guts.
" Oh, I will ." He snarled as he pulled a knife from his boot and pressed it to her throat.
" Master help her!"
" Why should I?"
" Because she doesn't deserve this. Help her!"
" Fine."
" Bitch I told you, give me your fucking necklace." He growled.
" Hey, why don't you pick on someone your own size! " I yelled as I stepped out of my hiding place.
He took the knife off her throat and pointed it at me.
" Why don't you just go back to wherever you came from ." He snarled at me.
When I was young my mam taught me a spell called transformatio.
When a witch or warlock uses the spell, they transform into a monster. I quickly muttered the spell under my breath and transformed myself into a giant wolf hybrid with broad shoulders, my body is covered with thick black fur, I have long claws and sharp teeth.
The man began to tremble with fear. His skin turned pale white. His hands began to shake violently as a scream slipped from his mouth causing all the birds in the area to fly away.
" Leave now and never come back!" I roared. Slobber falling to the ground from my mouth.
He bolted into the trees like a bat out of hell, dropping his knife on the way. When I couldn't see him anymore I lifted the spell and ran over to the girl.
"Thank you ." She exclaimed as I helped her up.
My eyes grew wide with shock when I looked at her.
" Ava." I gasped.
" Yeah, who else?" She laughed brushing the mud off her blue dress.
This can't be Ava. Ava has orange hair, this girl has brown hair.
" Are you a twin sister or something?"
" No, I am Ava I just dyed my hair."
" Why would you do that?"
" Change I guess." She shrugged.
" Looks nice." I mumbled.
Shut up, Tobias!
" You think it looks nice?" She giggled tucking a loose strand behind her ear.
As I stared into her beautiful eyes I felt the urge to kiss her. I desperately tried to fight the urge but once again I lost to my desire.
I cupped her cheek in my hand and slowly drew her closer. The feeling of her skin against my finger sent electricity through my body. As our lips were about to touch I heard a loud crash from the woods and I snapped back to reality.
What am I doing?
I quickly pulled back and dashed into the woods.
"Wait!" She yelled behind me but I just kept running.
Throughout the whole day of training, all I could think about was how badly I want to kiss Ava and how I almost did.
Did this feeling mean she is my mate? She does have brown hair now.
" Why did I rescue her?" I sighed as I slowly walked through the trees.
" Because it was the right thing to do. Besides, it was nice."
" I am not nice. I am a warlock, I am cruel and rotten to the core. I do not do nice." I growled.
" Well if that is true then why did you listen to me?"
" Um."
" You know what master I don't think you are as evil as you make yourself to be. I think there is good in you."
" Do you want to know what I think?"
" Yes please master."
" I think I should sow your beak shut and starve you to death. And when you are dead I'll cut your body up and feed it to a cat!"
" What is up with you and threatening that poor bird?" Asked a voice I instantly recognized.
Ava.
I was so focused on my conversation with Halin that I didn't realize that I am on the outskirts of Hawthorn.
" And what's up with you always getting in my business?" I hissed.
" And what's up with you always running into me?"
" If I remember correctly you ran into me." I smirked.
" Touche." She giggled.
What am I doing?
" What are you doing here?" I asked, leaning back against a tree.
" I was on my way home and I saw you coming." She shrugged while nervously playing with her hands. She delicately chewed on her perfect lips.
" Why would you come here?"
" Well, you didn't give me a chance to say thank you. And I wanted to talk about you know, the kiss." She faltered.
" There was no kiss." I hissed.
" Well yeah but-"
" No, there was no kiss and we never will. You are a pathetic human and mean nothing to me!" I yelled.
Tears rimmed her eyes turning them to the glass at my outburst. With a choked sob she ran away.
" Do you feel better master? You hurt that girl's feeling."
" I don't feel anything. Let's go home."
Even though I told Halin I feel nothing I knew it is a lie.
