Chapter 69

"Come on, Autumn. It's not even that high. You can jump higher than this," you urged the fox kit. She hissed and backed away from you. You sighed. You were currently on your broomstick, only flying high enough that your feet were about a foot off the ground. It wasn't very high at all. You were trying to get Autumn comfortable with flying. She wasn't having any of it, but she had to get comfortable with flying with you if she was going to go on missions with you.

/No! Will fall!/ Autumn protested.

You gave her a gentle look and a warm smile. "Dearheart, you know I'm not going to let you fall," you reassured her gently. You lifted your legs and lowered your broom so you were kneeling on the ground. You patted your lap for Autumn to hop onto. "See? Not high. You won't fall," you reassured her.

Loki and Fenna were watching the disaster from the wall of the training room. You could see that Loki was fighting back laughter. /Don't laugh, Lokitty. You're next for flying lessons/ you informed him telepathically.

He paled and fear filled his eyes. /Oh no. My feet stay firmly on the ground/ he replied sternly. He reached down to scoop Fenna up into his arms to ease his fear.

/You have enough magic to fly. And I don't know you to be afraid of any new magical skills/ you taunted him. You knew that new magic would be enough to get his ass on a broomstick and learn to fly. /And it'll be different than flying by Mjolnir with Thor/ you added. /You'll have control of the broom. You'll be flying under your own power/ You watched him as you spoke, gauging his reaction by his body language, which spoke just as much if not more than his words. His words were always so carefully guarded, except that his silver tongue turned to lead when he was drunk, which was rare. You also didn't want to rely on getting him drunk to have serious conversations with him.

That wasn't a solid basis for a marriage.

So you had to trust the god of lies to be honest with you.

You knew he respected you enough to tell you the truth, at least about the important things.

Loki sighed, still looking concerned, but nodded, cuddling Fenna close for her comfort and support. He was doing so much better /Very well. After you finish with Autumn. She is much more important to get on a broom/ he reminded you. That was a very valid point and you allowed him to have it.

Though you knew he would get a shorter reprieve than he'd like. Autumn would get her courage to fly with you soon since she'd want to stay with you. She was your familiar after all. She just needed a bit of encouragement. You gave her a gentle smile "Come on, Autumn. I won't let you fall. I'll never let you fall," she was your familiar. You would protect her with your life. Just as she would for you.

Autumn hesitated another moment before she carefully hopped onto your lap. She huddled against you as you cuddled her close. "See? Safe," you reassured her as you held her safe.

She bobbed her head in a nod and nuzzled your hand. /Safe/ she agreed brightly.

"Ok to go a little higher?" You asked her. She nodded, finally trusting you. You rose slowly, making sure she was ok every step of the way and slowly began to fly around the room. She got adventurous and curious and soon was enjoying the flying. By the end of the session she had even learned to perch on the tail of your broom so you could fly with both of your hands free. She trusted that she wouldn't fall, especially when you'd taught her a couple of charms to make sure she wouldn't fall. Familiars didn't have much magic of their own, but they could handle little spells like that. She was so much more relaxed after she'd learned those spells and so happy and eager that she would be able to stay with you.

You looked to Loki once Autumn was comfortable. "Alright, princeling. It's your turn," you told him and summoned your spare broom. You'd teach him how to make and spell his own flying broom later. Right now, he could learn to fly with one that you'd spelled for him. You dismounted and walked over to Loki, holding the spare broom.

"This is a terrible idea, magelet," Loki informed you as he set Fenna down, eyeing the broom in your hand warily.

You gave him a warm, gentle smile. "It'll be alright, Lokitty. You know I won't steer you wrong," you reminded him.

He couldn't argue that point. You showed him how to activate the broom, after you keyed it to obey him. It flew next to him at the perfect height for him to mount it. "Darling... I think you've failed to account that my current anatomy is not conducive to riding a broom..." Loki said dryly as he held the broom, still hesitating at mounting. "I am not the Potter boy..." he'd complained while watching the Harry Potter movies that there was no way Harry (or any of the boys) could properly ride a broom without hurting a delicate piece of anatomy. "And since you enjoy that piece of my anatomy, perhaps we ought not to harm it?" He suggested a tad too hopefully.

You did rather enjoy that piece of his anatomy, especially since he knew how to use it so well and bring such pleasure that even mentioning such activities was putting you more in the mood than you cared to admit.

You rolled your eyes, fighting not to rise to the bait. "Enough stalling, Lokitty. There are spells on the broom to protect that lovely piece of your anatomy. Now mount up!" Your voice was stern and you saw the twinge that you knew would be there. He was a prince and had taken riding lessons as a child. Mount up was an instinctual command to follow from an instructor and you saw him half-follow the order before he'd even thought about it.

You smirked at him when he gave you an annoyed look, but obediently swung his leg over the broom. You mounted your own and showed him how to kick off of the ground to rise higher. He followed you obediently, if warily. Luckily, your broom was equally obedient and rose for him, perfectly well behaved.

You saw the light in Loki's eyes after his fear vanished. He was in control and he could finally, properly, experience what it was to fly.

After that moment, after he felt the joy of being off the ground under his own control and power, he took to flying like a fish to water, and you were racing each other around the training room, the familiars chasing after you on the ground, barking in delight at your fun.

Loki pulled up next to you after he'd gotten the hang of flying and gave you a kiss. "Thank you, magelet," he said, his voice full of love for the gift you'd given him of the freedom of the open air.

"Always, Lokitty," you replied warmly and stole another kiss. You'd always give him any magic or experience you could. You would be the best wife to him that you could and he would be the best husband. You were great together, stronger together and soon would be together forever.
