~Chapter 1~
Her dress. ^
"Mom! This isn't fair, that's my teddy!" I cried pitifully from where I sat on the ground.
My mother loomed over me and past her was my little sister, Liz, clutching my brown teddy bear.
"Don't be selfish! You already have enough. Your sister wants this toy."
I looked to my father for help, but all I got in return was guilty eyes that avoided my own.
My mother, father and sister turned their backs on me and started walking off.
"No, please don't leave me!" I stumbled across the floor in an attempt to run after them, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't catch up.
BAM!
A loud noise jolted me from my somewhat peaceful sleep.
I watched as a second loud bang sent my living room door flying across my entryway and onto my furniture.
"Huh. That's new." I said to myself seconds before three men in armor stormed into my small cottage.
They easily spotted me in my room as it was mostly open to the rest of the house.
Marching forcefully in, the man in the middle of the three pointed his sword at me. "I am the Guards Captain Andrik Willock. You, miss Elizabeth Moss, are under arrest."
Oh? That's interesting.
I nodded towards my destroyed entryway. "I love what you've done to the place. Makes it feel more open, don't you think?"
The all mighty Andrik sneered at me, "Don't get coy with us, miss. We know you don't carry the blood of the demons."
Why spoil the fun and tell them that I am in fact the one who inherited magic.
"Such disrespect! Would you treat me differently if I did?" My voice was coated in an obvious sarcastic tone and judging by the facial expressions of the guardsmen, they did not like it.
"Handcuff her and throw her in the carriage." Andrik barked out his orders and hastily stormed pass the other two and out the door.
I dramatically gasped. "In my nightgown? Will you allow this lady the pleasure of not having her delicates exposed? I'll go along willingly if you do."
The two men adverted their eyes to anything other than my exposed form. "C-Certainly. We will be waiting outside the room." They did as they said they would and stood with their backs to me outside my room.
With a snap of my fingers, an amber smoke covered my body. When it vanished, it left a casual black dress laced with silver that shined like stars upon my body and black open-toed heels.
I grabbed a brush and ran it through my hair to rid it of the awful knots. Soon enough, my hair fell into silky waves upon my back.
I reached out to my makeup set and applied some light makeup. Who knows who I am meeting today.
"Okay boys. I'm done now." I quickly put on some black dangle earrings before walking out to the guards.
I decided that I'll go along with this little game for a bit. I want to see how this will turn out, so I willfully stuck my hands out and watched as the guards locked the handcuffs onto my wrists.
I allowed myself to be escorted out and into the carriage.
Andrik took one look at my appearance and said, "You allowed this dirt-blood to get dressed?"
Ah, dirt-blood. The lovely word our country, Vanibald, uses to describe the kin of witches who did not inherit powers.
In a witch or warlock's family, every other child inherits the powers of the demon who's blood runs through their veins and takes on the demon's last name. Usually the power of a witch depends on the training, but it also helps if the blood comes from a higher ranking demon.
This applies to exorcists as well, except for the fact that they don't take on the last name and they are blessed with the blood of angels.
For example; my father's last name is Moss, while my last name is Vastroth.
I am Venus Vastroth.
My sister is Elizabeth Moss, who hasn't been home in more then a month. I'm not surprised she has gotten into trouble.
I ignored the bickering between the men and enjoyed the carriage ride to wherever we were going.
Soon I felt the carriage rattle upon a gravel road which led up to a large castle. We passed through the outer gate and proceeded to exit the cart.
I watched the servants and maids bustle about while I was being escorted through the main doors.
The entrance hall of the castle was large enough to host a grand party, there were hallways that proceeded to what I assumed were bedrooms and stairs that led to even more mysterious rooms.
As I walked closer to the end of the entrance hall, I noticed that in the middle sat a man with slicked back brown hair and gorgeous purple-blue eyes showing that he is indeed a man of class, but the calluses on his hands showed he worked hard. His jawline and features were well sculpted and you could tell he was overall nicely built.
He was surrounded by butlers, advisors and guards who all looked at me suspiciously, but I didn't care. All I looked at was him.
The guards behind me pushed me down on my knees. "Show respect. You're in front of Duke Augustus Louie de Vicar. The best exorcist the kingdom of Vanibald has seen!"
One of his advisors starting talking about why I was there and what my crimes were, boring stuff.
I toned it all out and looked just at him.
Oh, he's mine.
I muttered a few words under my breath and the shackles around my wrist disappeared in an amber smoke as I stood up and made my way towards the Duke.
With a wave of my hand, I pushed back the guards who charged towards me.
They can't stop me now.
The Duke looked on edge as to what I was doing but made no move to go against me as if he was curious or confident he could defeat me.
I smiled as I leaned in towards him.
His face contorted into a look of pure shock.
My lips were upon his.
