Abyss

Standing there, by the fire with Finn, Lucas and Eva, I felt more sadness than minute before. It was impossible to believe. Eva's neck had been snapped and Finn disappeared with her. I hadn't had time to inquire where her body was when I showed up at their house.

I didn't have to guess anymore.

"You two look like you've seen a ghost." Eva said shifting uncomfortably, "It's unsettling."

"What did you do?!" Finn shouted rushing towards Lucas. I put my weight against him in a bid to stop him. It slightly worked, "What did you do, Lucah!"

I'd never heard them refer to each other with their true names. I found that unsettling.

"I fixed a mistake." Lucas said proudly.

"By doing this!?" Finn shouted.

We both saw the pained expression pass across Eva's face and Finn retreated into himself, "I didn't want this to happen to you."

"You're welcome." Lucas said moving over to the liquor cabinet. He began fixing himself a drink but the glass exploded in his hand, thanks to me. He recoiled, pulling his finger up to my mouth. Finn and Eva fix their eyes on me. Lucas doesn't. He grabbed another glass, "I'll wait on that 'thank you', though I didn't do much."

Another glass shattered in his hand.

"Goddammit!" He said glaring at me, "Something you want to say? What am I saying? Of course there's something you want to say. Feel another speech coming on?"

"You think you're God. You think you can kill and bring people back with no repercussions, don't you? I thought you had a big ego but this..." I shook my head, "You killed her."

"I brought her back." Lucas sniped.

I nodded and headed for the door. I slammed the front door behind me and began towards my car. Lucas appeared in front of me.

"You're never going to give me a break, are you?" Lucas asked.

"You killed her, you killed my best friend." I gave him an incredulous look, "And instead of taking ownership of your actions, you tried to hit the redo button."

"Are you mad that I did that or that my Brother's off the market again."

I pulled back and punched him, "I'm not sure why I loved you before but it won't happen again." I moved on from him, leaving him in the darkness he created for himself.

Now...

David and I walk down the hall, hand-in-hand. I feels odd at first but the more we do it, the less it seems to scare me. After Eva's death and rebirth, David is there for me. Someone has to be. Charlotte is just as disillusioned as I am but takes to the news much better than I did. She is there for both of us, though a lot less than normal.

Noah and Charlotte seem inseparable. Kind of like David and I. Eva seems to be hanging with Lucas a lot since her transformation. I often speak with Finn and he respects my unease with Eva and Lucas. He never forces the issue. David isn't thrilled that I still have contact with Finn, even though I am not speaking with Eva.

I've also moved back home. My relationship with my Parents is increasingly better. Penny agreed to train me and my Father is teaching me everything he knows about the supernatural. It is good to see my Family healing, especially because I was the reason for the rift in the first place.

Kai also became a fixture with us, as well as Parker. I had to explain what happened at the Prom to him and he was pretty freaked out. After a while, he softened to the idea. I feel there is something he hadn't told me.

David's resistance to us and our relationship is almost seamlessly removed. I am pretty shocked myself. Don't get me wrong, he's still a major asshole sometimes but he's actually different with me. It's a change that I welcome.

"So, tutor, what will you give me if I get an A?" David asks with a smirk as we head down the hallway towards class. I know what it means when he smirks at me. It always ends with us sneaking off somewhere for 'lunch'. I roll my eyes and he chuckles, "After practice, I was thinking about coming over."

"I bet you were." I chuckle, "You do know Alan still lives there, right? He's still a little shaky about you."

"Yeah, well he did almost walk in on you ja-"

"Point being, he's kind of got an eye on you." I said with a smirk, "Kinda adds kink."

"You're very weird, you know that?" David smiles as we entered the cafeteria, "Want to sit together?"

"I feel weird sitting with you and your friends."

"What's wrong with my friends?" We both look over to the table to see the group staring at a girl leaning over a trashcan, "Okay, point taken."

"Besides, Kai's supposed to show me some sketches he's going to submit to this contest." I smile, "Have fun with that, though."

David nods and breaks away. I watch as he settles in with the Jock Patrol and find a vacant table for myself. I quickly pulled my phone out and put on my headphones. I close my eyes and Inconspicuously begin to reach my out with my mind. I can hear hundreds of thoughts at the same time. I can feel people moving around me. My mind stops at an animalistic aura. I pull back, realizing that David is the target. As I pull back, I feel someone standing in front of me, two people, one with the same animalistic aura.

I opened my eyes to see Charlotte and Noah standing in front of me, "Holy crap, you're a werewolf." I say softly.

Charlotte and Noah stared at me with a look of bewilderment. Neither one of them seem too surprised by my announcement, leading me to realize that Charlotte and Noah both know what he is. My declaration, although said across the room, sparks a response from David. I noticed he is staring at us now. He stand, obviously angry.

"Don't." I whisper.

He clearly to hears me and sits back down.

My eyes find Noah again, "When?"

"Perry!" Charlotte warns. She seems to be looking back and forth between David and I, "The less you know, the better."

"You knew."

"I did."

"But you gave me grief about Lucas?" I argue.

"My Boyfriend's not dead...and he also doesn't feed on people." Charlotte admonishes.

"Are we talking about vampires again?" Kai asks as he walks up behind me. He looks at Noah, "Does he know now? Is he a vampire, too?"

"Can we not talk about this in a room full of people?" Noah asks self-consciously. He quickly exits and leaves us to stare at him walking away.

"Jesus, Perry, how did you even know?" I chuckle nervously and she rolls her eyes, "What did I ask you about doing that."

"Obviously I know why now."

"Oh, come on."

"You hate Lucas because he's a vampire." I argue.

Charlotte shakes her head, "I didn't like him because he's a total psycho, as evidenced by our friend being a vampire now." She sees the complicated mix of sadness and anger flash across my face, "Can I not even mention her now?"

"Do what you want." I say as I stand, "You always do."

I stalk away from the table and duck out of the cafeteria and down the hallway to the gym. As I walk down the hall, I feel as if someone is trailing me. I turn to see if there is anyone behind me and see no one. As I turn to move forward, Noah is standing in front of me.

"Shit! You scared the bejeesus out of me!" I notice that there's a very vacant look on his face and he's not acting like his usual self, "What exactly are you doing here...in this hallway. Are you following me?"

"We need to keep this between us and Charlotte."

"Yes, because I'm in a rush to tell everyone...though most people I talk to are already vampires...or werewolves...or whatever the Hell Kai is."

Noah grabs my arm, "If they know you know, they'll-" He stops.

"They? Who?" I ask, "And why would they...a pack?"

"Yes." Noah frowns.

"Why doesn't David know about them? Do they know about him?"

"Wolves watch and wait. It's what we do." He lets go of my arm and disappears around the corner.

"Still so much better than Lucas." I say with exasperation.

                                                                          *******************

Thoughts swirl in my head. Noah, despite being a good-natured person, is absolutely terrifying. Of course his threat is taken in the spirit it was given. He's warning me to be cautious about what I say which is good advice. It would probably have saved me a lot of trouble in the first place. It stayed with me through four periods. I basically daydreamed all through my classes.

"Hey, what're you doing?"

David's voice shakes me from my thoughts. I look up at him as he sits on the bench beside me.

"You're not reading by the tree." David is interested in me as always. I expect him to be angry from finding out about Noah, instead he seems to be worried about me. "I'm trying this thing where I'm a better person. Helping boy scouts, old ladies with bags, cats in trees, that sort of thing. One of the contingencies is that you tell me everything."

I chuckle, "Me being honest?"

"Yes and me being less of an ass."

I shake my head, "You're pissed because Noah's a werewolf and you think he turned you." I say without hesitation, "What if you're right? I don't believe that you're okay with this. As a matter of fact, I think you've already got some really stupid plan cooked up in your head."

David fidgets uncomfortably.

"I want to say that I'm fine with it but honestly I'm afraid." His eyes are glued to mine now, "I've lost so many people already. I can't condone you doing something stupid."

"Sometimes I wonder if you're reading my mind." Davis groans, taking a deep breath, "You don't think he did it?"

"I don't know. But I do know that the answers you want are only going to open a wormhole."

"I deserve to know."

"Yeah, yeah you do." I agree with a soft tone.

"What you said in the woods was, as always, exactly right and exactly what I needed to hear." David puts his arm around me, "Beauty and the Beast."

I laughed. I am under no impression that I deterred him from his mission. In fact, I think it's the opposite. He is still going to do whatever it is that he has planned. I just need to be there to catch him when he falls.

It's what I owe him and what he'd do for me.

                                                                          *******************

I make my way around the Domus, trying to remember where I hid the Grimoire.

The Witch House has been made over with the help of Parker and David. I tried to cast a spell on the house but was surprised when the spell backfired and the house disappeared. It took two hours and more brain power than I am usually required to use to solve the issue.

The Witch House was dubbed a 'Summer Project' and most of my friends, save for the vampires, helped in restoring the house. I was thankful for their help. There was no way I'd have been able to do anything like this. Luckily for me, Parker and David helped build houses for charity the summer before last.

The sitting room is now more majestic than it used to be. The paint on the walls are no longer peeling, instead replaced by a dark red color and cherry wooden floors. The one thing I am able to do is refresh the furniture so that it looks new.

Back to the book.

I am literally going out of my mind trying to remember where I hid it. My eyes quickly catch sight of the large fireplace. There is a small compartment built-in that houses a crystal and a couple of slips of paper with symbols on them. I quickly take the book and retreat to a large dark blue chair in the corner.

After a few minutes, I realize that something was wrong. I flip the book shut and stand carefully. Something moves behind me outside. I whip around to see it and I can hear a low snarl.

To combat the overwhelming urge to call out to whoever is watching me, I begin moving towards the window. As I reach the window, I look into the darkness and without truly knowing, I can feel the darkness staring back at me. A large shadow runs by in the darkness and I back away from the window.

I wasn't alone. The darkness finally sees me.
