Wish #10

"Hey, can I sit here?" The sudden noise and attention in my usually quiet lunch time caught me off guard and left me speechless as I glanced up at a boy who stood not too far from my table and had directed his question at me.

"I...uhm...yeah." I stuttered lamely as the guy sat down before I had even finished my sentence. The weariness that built within me was fast and I was about to push away from the table when another two boys followed the first.

"Colton, did you scare her? Sorry if my lame as brother scared you. We can go somewhere else." Feeling a little mortified as three sets of eyes were set on me, I shook my head as I settled back down. Something told me that these three guys weren't bad, the accents also helped make my decision to stay a little easier.

"What Sebastian was supposed to say is, hi and hello. We're the Summers triplets, an oddity in itself but what makes us even weirder is that we're Australian and our dad is an ambassador to America. So here we are, everyone acts like we have the black plague or something. Not that we do or anything...anyway, I'm Nathaniel, that loser that came over first is Colton and Sebastian is the serious one." It was information overload but I picked up the basics, Nathaniels accent was a little thick and he spoke at a speed that I couldn't keep up with.

When they didn't speak I realized it was time to introduce myself, "oh, uh I'm Pia." I stated simply. There was nothing interesting about me, my mom was a hard working single mom, I was an only child...I kept thinking of wishes that would never come true.

"That's cool, nice ta meet ya Pia. So, who's who in this school?" Colton said with a brief smile as all three guys began eating. Over the course of lunch I gave them the bare basics, mostly because bare basics was all I knew.

Since starting high school I had made it my business not to know other peoples business and that was the way I wanted it to stay, but the Summers boys seemed to have other ideas.

I was fourteen years old, lunch had just finished and I wished for the first time in a few months that I was invisible. Having attention on you was tiring and I still had the rest of the day to get through.
