Washington DC
Chapter 1
After the events that took place in New York Abigail and Steve Rogers were moved to the Washington headquarters of shield. It had been two years since New York and they had finally settled into the new world. They were staying in an apartment complex. They each had their own apartment. Abi was one floor up directly above Steve's. They had settled the best they could and mostly spent their days off catching up on everything they had missed.
Abi was sat in her apartment reading The Green Mile when her phone rang.
"Hello?" She asked picking it up.
"Hey, Abi." Natasha's voice came over the speakers. "Fury is calling us in. Do you know where Steve is, he's not answering."
"Yeah he's gone out for a run. I'll grab him and then head straight in." She said before hanging up the phone.
She walked downstairs and out into the street where her car was parked. She had let Tony pick it out so she had ended up with a Corvette Stingray in black. It was a beautiful car and she loved it to bits. She climbed in and set off to find Steve.
Steve had gotten up early and had been jogging most of the morning. He kept running past another guy and repeatedly saying, "On your left." He went to run past the guy again.
"Don't you say it. Don't you dare." The other guy said.
"On your left." Steve said as he ran past.
"Come on!" The other guy yelled as he tried to catch Steve up.
The other guy was sat breathing heavily under a tree as Steve stopped running.
"Need a medic?" Steve asked.
The other guy laughed. "I need a new set off lungs. Dude, you just ran, like, thirteen miles in thirty minutes."
"I guess I got a late start." Steve replied.
"Really? You should be ashamed of yourself. You should take another lap. Did you just take it? I assume you just took it." The other guy said.
"What unit you with?" Steve asked pointing to his hoodie.
"58th Para rescue. But now I'm working down at the VA. Sam Wilson." He introduced as Steve helped him to his feet.
"Steve Rogers."
"I kinda put that together." Sam said. "Must have freaked you out, coming home after the whole defrosting thing."
"It takes some getting used to." Steve said. "It's good to meet you, Sam." Steve said as he went to leave.
"It's your bed, right?" Sam asked.
"What's that?" Steve said turning back.
"Your bed, it's too soft." Sam clarified. "When I was over there, I'd sleep on the ground, use rocks for pillows, like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying one my bed, it's like..."
"Lying one marshmallow." Steve added. "Feel like I'm gonna sink right to the floor."
"How long?" Steve asked.
"Two tours. You must miss the good old days, huh?"
"Well, things aren't so bad. Food's a lot better, we used to boil everything. No polio is good. Internet, so helpful. I've been reading that a lot, trying to catch up." Steve said.
"Marvin Gaye, 1972, Trouble Man soundtrack. Everything you missed jammed into one album." Sam said.
Steve pulled out a small notebook from his pocket and added it to a list of things. "I'll put it on the list."
Abi then walked up after parking her car. "Hey." She said.
"Hey." Steve replied. "Abi this is Sam. Sam this is my sister, Abi."
"Could have put that together as well." Sam said shaking Abi's hand.
She smiled before turning to Steve. "We've got a mission. Fury's called us all in." She told him.
Steve nodded. "All right, Sam. Duty calls. Thanks for the run. If that's what you want to call running."
"Oh, that's how it is?" Sam said.
"Oh, that's how it is." Steve said with a laugh.
"Okay, anytime you want to stop by the VA, make me look awesome in front of the girl at the front desk, just let me know." Sam said.
"I'll keep it in mind." Steve replied.
"Nice to meet you, Sam." Abi said as she walked back to her car which was parked on the curb.
"You too." Sam said looking at the car.
Steve hopped in the passenger's seat. "Can't run everywhere."
"No you can't." Sam said as Abi drove off.
