The Skies Break
Skies dotted the sky blue over a silent landscape.
But even this silence had to be punctured by something. And that something was me. I dove through the clouds and saw the ground coming faster and faster. But I wasn't afraid. I knew I could save myself from crashing face-first into the mud, grass, and earth. And just before my talons could turn the ground, I slapped my wings out, taking air and wooshing away from certain death.
This was all a child's game, and I had fun. But I knew mother wouldn't be so amused if I made a cartwheel in teh air again. What can I say? I'm young, and I have much to be happy about. Soon I saw our home, Tiressea, the Kingdom of Dreams. It was named so because our king, king Tayrsy meant that it was here dreams that would come true. And while it was accurate in some settings, others were not as... lucky. I, on the other hand, had a perfect everyday draconian life.
I was living at my best right now. Enough food for my whole family, grandmother and grandpa and mother and father. Even a little brother! These times were the best I had ever had since the Great Flora, a festival made to honor our creator, Goddes Zatuphynth, the Eternal. she made everything, including us and all the other creatures of Tiressea.
I soon land in the great hall where our King and Queen will introduce us to their new hatching, prince Ciavayt. They already have one fledging, Ulrim, a handsome young black dragon. He and I are the same age. My brother has tried to get me to court Ulrim, but I do not know how we court. For Zatuphynth's sake, I'm just a fledging!
Even my friends, Qaydeot and Epho, want me to ask Ulrim. Ugh, this is one big annoying circle!
"oh hey, Godeophorth. Finally back from your morning flight?" says Qaydeot as I come over to her. I smile at her, and we do our little hug around the neck thing. That's when I notice our other friend, Epho, is missing. My spikes bristle visibly, and I start to look around as I ask Qaydeot, "uh Qaydeot, where is Epho?" the white dragoness looks around with me before shrugging. "probably outside, awing at the tribe's many young fledglings. Hey, hows are you and Ulrim going? Any romance between the two of you yet~?" she cooed, eying me with amusement.
I scrolled at her and swatted her with my tail "no, you fish brain! I am not getting together with the prince! I can't" that made Qaydeot laugh and flicked her wing at my shoulder "oh, of course, you can! Queen Friendyneilth likes you! more like her second.. well only daughter!" the ivory fledging chuckled and bumped my s/c shoulder with hers. I snorted and flicked my tail, so my spikes rattled. "you know, very good like me that she is only kind to me because my mother is her best friend," I said and bit back a sigh that threatened to fall out.
Qaydeot frowned but kept silent as king Tayrsy bellowed the hall to fall quiet, which it did. "fellow dragons!" he boomed, his voice holding power and wisdom beyond his age. The dragons cheered, but our king silenced them again with a lifting of a paw. "we are all gathered here today to welcome our new prince, our new little hatching. Welcome to prince Dovrug!" the hall of dragons erupted into cheers as a bit of green speckled scales was fitted into views.
Even I and Qaydeot cheered, clapping our nails together. Again our king silenced us, smiling. "I thank you all for gathering today, and I hope you treat my little fire just as you treat us. That was all; you all are free to go," he said, and the dragons started to file out one after one. Qaydeot and I began to look for my parents, and when we saw them by the entrance, we ran over.
Mother smiled when she saw me and embraced me with her s/c black wings. Father patted Qaydeot on the head, and my brother ran to her, hugging her around her chest. "it is good to see you back, my star," mother said as she parted from our hug. I smiled at her then Caddrynth came over to me and wrapped his tiny s/c wings around my leg. I smiled and bent down to nuzzle him "hello, little brother," I cooed, cuddling him, then picking him up by his scruff and placing him on my back.
"Well," father said as he stepped to me and wrapped one wing around me," as your mother said, it is good to see you back in one piece, my (f/g= favorite gem)," he ended and licked my forehead. I beamed at him before the 6 of us headed back home.
Qaydeot, though, had to go, so it was just my family and me when we reached our den again. "well, you and your brother should go to bed. It is a few hours to sunrise, I know, but you're going to school again," mother said and nudged my brother and me toward our sleeping caves.
He and I shared a look but knew better than to say against our mother, so we bid her and father ra goodnight after grabbing some dinner and heading to our sleeping caves.
When we came inside, I walked over to a little lamp made of the finest carved stone I had ever seen. It was a gift from an old friend of mine that I had used to crush on. Well, now that little speck of love was gone, and I had no one I was attracted to. While prince Ulrim was handsome, he wasn't my type, and we were only accountants, not close enough to be called friends.
Anyway, we could never have been at all.
"Godeophorth?" I heard a soft voice from my right, and I understood that I had been waltzing into my thoughts gain. I looked at my nest, where my brother lay with a rattled old book in his paws "can you read for me tonight?" he asked and used his adorable sparkling eyes that he knew I couldn't say no to. So I bredugruly agreed and soon craved up in teh nest with him, letting him cuddle against me as I started to read while we ate our dinner, raw sheep meat.
And when I had read one chapter, I laid the book away and flicked my wing so the lamplight would go out and tucked my brother into his own nest before going to sleep.
Whew! I thought with a sigh, this has been a long day! and I fell asleep that very moment.
