Only if I Have To
Tug Tug.
It woke me up that night. The tugging of something. The call of someone. Someone who I had yet to know but all so well would know. The call of a mate. A soulmate. I wouldn't believe it at first, but when I couldn't get the feeling out of my heart, I decided I needed answers. So I waited till the first morning light came streaking the sky with her warm orange light.
Then I stood up, stretching and ignoring the whine my brother let out once he could no longer feel my warmth. I didn't even spare him a glance. My mind was set. Open one special den within this mountain. The Tilabili Bekim, the Elders Den. is a cave where the elders of this tribe reside. The wisest of all our beings. The ones who had seen the world begin and kingdom rise and fall. the ones that even descended from the Fire Dragons.
And the wisest of them all, Chindes the Gentleheart.
An old wise dragoness with the color of fire ruby scales slithering along her wings and body. But her eyes were of pure sunshine. Yellow streaked with orange tendrils. It is said that she was the one who laid the egg of king Dodroirag.
I entered the cave to find some elders already mingling about. When one of them saw me, he gave me a small tired smile and walked over, brushing his snout against my ear in a greeting. "greetings, Dazyn, Champion of the Skies. What drove you to our humble den?" I smiled at him. "Elder Cerver, I have come for your mate. I need to speak with her on a matter I cannot understand," I said, and the elder smiled, stepping aside and swiping his great green wing towards the inner chambers of the den, probably where Elder Chindes is resting.
"my love should be up by now. Tell her what's on your heart, and I promise you to shell answer" I nodded at his words before slinking away, greeting some elders as I went past. Soon enough, though, I enter the lair of the Gentleheart and see her form in the nest in the innermost cavity part. Her head lifts when she hears my talonstpes, and she turns around, her golden eyes finding mine in a soft, welcoming gaze.
"Greetings, young one," she says and stands, turning around and facing me. She is a lot bigger than I am, almost as big as Darkstalker, the dragon I met yesterday. I had felt the same tug in my heart around him, but this time this tug was further. More substantial meaning that this was from someone far away. "what troubles your young mind?" crooned the elder snapping me out of my thoughts. "oh uh, I have come to tell that my heart is troubled it the feeling of a calling" the elder nodded "I... uh cannot say where it is coming from for I do not know specific. But I know it is beyond our borders."
That seemed to intrigue Elder Chindes more than anger her, and she smiled widely, beckoning me closer. "well, a young one, that can only mean one thing. Your One is out there at the great expense of the world. Do you know our king will not hold you back if you need to go" I look at her, surprise in my gaze "? I thought he would forbid me from leaving. He has done so for the other dragons that have pleaded to leave," I say, and Elder Chindes sigh, her tail curling around us.
"my son fears that if he lets us out of his sight, we might never return. ghe will not risk the fate of losing one of his own becue some youngling has high ambitions," she says, and I hum, knowing that our king wouldn't let us out due to his love for us all.
We are the only dragons he has left after the Great Plague and the murders that came after it.
"Well, I will tell my son that you are going out to find your One. Do not worry; a raven will come to you should it not find you within these walls. Also, tell your parents," she said, and I smiled, slithering away from her embrace.
It felt good now that I finally would get an answer to the tubing of my heart. And maybe find my One.

Darkstalker leaps to attention when a familiar figure comes from the shadow of the mountain.
He smiles at her as she lands in front of him and Winter. Now Moonwatcher and Qibil are here too. He summoned them to meet this beautiful dragoness. And when they saw her, they were speechless. He knew they had never seen such a gracious beast before, for neither had he.
I turn to the dragons behind the great black dragon. Their eyes are wide with surprise. It seems like Darkstalker is bigger than them. Stronger too. I smile a friendly one knowing I have to introduce them to the king and queen.
Darkstalker smiles and swipes his starry wing to assess his friends "this is prince Winter, my freind Moom and her freind Qibil." He says, and I nod. "An honor meeting you," I say to them and dip my head.
They nod, and our conversation grows short when I realize I have to leave before the sun sets. So with a small nuzzle, I bid them goodbye leaving in the afternoon sun steadily making her way down the skies.
I fly as hard as I can without getting too tired. I have an inner feeling that I need to reach whoever my One is before sometimes happens to them, I do not know.
But soon enough, we're the sun too low, and I had to search for shelter for the night. A small patch of forest was sufficing sufficient for that. I curl up just as the sun dips behind the mountains that are the apparent border between Tiressea and the Kingdom of the Posiok dragons.
I knew I had to cross their realm to get to the ocean, but it was a risk I was willing to take. I just had to stay hidden and out of sight. Poison dragons do not have very good eyesight because they do not need it to kill their prey. They spit a glob of hissing black saliva on them, melting into the target's flesh, making it into a sizzling mass of meat.
I've never understood why they do it like that when it is easier to kill out with a blow to the head or neck. But who am I to question their customs?
I yawn as the exhaust from the long flight takes me to the realm of dreams.
But little do I know what awaits me when I reach the Distant Kingdoms.
And if I did, perhaps I would not be flying there.
