Chapter Twenty - Two - Family
A celebration bloomed in the small apartment.
Wade looked so happy being surrounded by his friends. His world.
Everyone was there. Music singing as everyone talked and laughed and enjoyed each other's company. Dogpool's tongue explored the corner of Wade's mouth as he looked around the room at everyone.
"Everyone wants to matter. Turns out ya don't need to be Marvel Jesus to do it. You just need to open your eyes and look around. And if you're lucky? You'll find a few friends." He said in his head and to the audience. "Old friends..." He looked to Colossus - who was talking to Warhead and Peter.
"...And new." He panned to where Dean and Laura were talking with Yukio, Dean was stuffing his furry cheeks with food while Laura laughed at what Yukio said.
He spotted Vanessa getting herself a drink and went over to her, Dog still in the crook of his elbow. Seeing her, he felt love but not the same love as before. It was that underlining love you have for someone you once loved with every fibre of your being but time had softened it into appreciation and loyalty. He wasn't in love with her. He didn't think he had been for a while. He was just hung up on the idea of her. The idea of what they once had.
His heart belonged to someone else.
He smiled at her, "Hey."
"Hey!" She beamed, "You've been busy."
"At first, I did it for you. Even if you didn't want me anymore, I wanted to do it for you... but... by the end of it, I didn't do it just for you. I did it for me. For everyone in this room." He pointed to where Dean was now swinging from Colossus' steel arm and laughing while Laura watched with a large smile. "For them kids." He then glanced to where Logan was leaning against the fridge, an ipad in one hand, a beer in the other. He was dressed in normal clothes. A button up shirt over a white tank and jeans. The yellow suit was nowhere in sight. "And him. I did it for him."
Vanessa watched him for a moment and asked, "Do you love him?"
Wade shrugged.
"If you do love him," She said, a tender grin on her red lips, "tell him. Allow yourself to be happy, Wade. You deserve it."
"Thank you."
They hugged and she kissed his cheek.
"Give me the dog and go talk to your man." She said, collecting Dogpool from him.
Suddenly nervous, Wade flattered invisible wrinkles in his cardigan. "Wish me luck."
Vanessa stroked Dogpool. "Good luck."
Wade went to Logan, spotting their masks on the table, side by side. Battered-to-shit and worse for wear, but intact. Iconic shit.
"What are you looking at?" Wade asked, nodding to the ipad.
"Houses."
"Houses?"
Logan shrugged, "Well, the TVA gave us some money for saving the timeline and we are currently living in a one bedroom apartment with a blind coke addicted lady. The kids deserve some space, a bedroom, a garden. Right?" When Logan looked up from the screen and spotted Wade's soft admiration, he raised a bushy brow. "What?"
"Its just... you're a good dad."
That made Logan's cheeks turn a little red. He scoffed to hide it. "I'm trying." He excused, clicking on the screen before saying with a sigh, "Sometimes I wonder what the other Logan... their Logan... would think, me looking after 'em."
"I think he would just be grateful that someone was looking after them." Wade told him truthfully. He then turned on the more upbeat conversation. "So! Where do you think you'll be moving too?" Logan frowned with displeasure at the words, confusing Wade. "What?"
"You're coming with us." He said firmly.
"What?" He repeated.
"Like you said. Kids, a dog, a wife - I've got the whole package. I ain't letting that go."
Wade's eyes were wide with shock. "W-Wife?"
"Come on." Logan smiled teasingly, coy and cunning. "You're perfect wifey material... remember?"
For the first time in his life, Wade was speechless.
"And I'm looking forward to you cooking me dinner in a frilly little apron, tucking the kids into bed and... what was the third thing you said?" He teased, tapping a finger against his chin as if trying to remember. "Oh that's right. Blowing me as a wake up call."
"I said all that?"
"Yep."
"Oh." He turned to the audience, "Is this really happening? Is Marvel really going to let eight pack heartthrob Wolverine kiss a dude? Me of all people?!" Wade's breath hitched. He looked into Logan's dark eyes, and suddenly, all the awkwardness, all the fear, seemed to melt away. He saw understanding there, and a mirroring of his own hesitant desire.
Logan reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against Wade's scarred cheek. The touch was feather-light, yet it sent a jolt of electricity through Wade's skin. He closed his eyes, leaning into the contact. Then, slowly, tentatively, Logan leaned in, his breath ghosting across Wade's lips. And then, they were kissing.
It wasn't a dramatic, movie-worthy kiss. Nor was it angry - which was what Wade often fantasised it would be. It was surprisingly soft, hesitant, and full of a nervous vulnerability. There was a slight awkwardness to it, their noses bumping gently, but that only added to the raw, genuine feeling of the moment. It tasted like beer and pop tarts and something else entirely, something new and exciting.
Logan's other hand found its way to Wade's waist, pulling him closer. Wade's arms wrapped around Logan's shoulders, holding him tight. It was a silent conversation, a language spoken not with words, but with touch, with the gentle pressure of lips against lips, with the shared understanding that this was something important, something real.
When they finally broke apart, they were both a little breathless, their faces flushed. The air around them still crackled with an unspoken energy. They stood there for a moment, just looking at each other, their eyes filled with a mixture of surprise, wonder, and a quiet certainty. All until cheering interrupted them.
They saw all the other party guests cheering and crying out in joy as they were the centre of attention.
Yukio and Warhead shared their own little kiss as the rest gathered around the new pair, offering congratulations and questions.
"He's your problem now." Said Laura, nudging her elbow against Wolverine's chest.
Logan shrugged. "I don't mind."
Dean cheered as he hugged Deadpool, screaming "Welcome to the family!"
That made everyone laugh.
"And sometimes the people we save..."
Wade looked around at everyone he loved. All smiling - genuine smiling - laughing and when he caught eyes with Vanessa, she gave him a proud grin. Wade felt an arm around his waist and suddenly he was being pulled into a hard body. He looked up at Logan with so much love as the people around him warmed his once cold heart, causing it to melt into a puddle of gratitude and tenderness.
"They save us right back."
The End :3
