Since season 5 was just released and most stories I've read that follow the plot are KeithxReader stories, I've decided to throw my hate into the ring. In this story, Shiro and the reader have been dating since their days as Garrison students. Both are respected pilots, but Reader teaches at the Garrison. After Shiro disappears, she takes on a mentor roll for Lance, Hunk, and Pidge and of course follow them on their journey to take down Zarkon as the White Paladin. So yes, there is a sixth lion in this story and yes I'm aware of the season 5 finale. Let's just say I have something planned for that. Also, since an animal partner has become like a tradition for me, you the audience can send in your ideas for this stories companion. With that out of the way, let's get started, and remember, I own nothing.
Prologue: Morning Before the Storm
Beams of golden light precariously pierced through a window of a shared apartment, illuminating 2 figures sleeping soundly on their shared bed. The large of the 2 was a male with lightly tanned skin and dark ebony hair in a peculiar style. His shirtless form revealed well defined muscles. One of his arms was draped over the waist of his female partner, keeping her form pinned to his chest. The female was shorter than him, with (S/C) skin, (H/L), (H/C) locks, and a pair of (E/C) eyes concealed by her eyelids. She let out small puffs of air as she continued to dream, content with her lover's embrace. Eventually, however, an ungodly sound rang off from the male's phone, alerting him it was time to get ready. He groaned and opened one dark grey eye. The female tightened her grip on him.
"Takashi, turn it off," she groaned. He chuckled.
"Sorry (Y/N), I've gotta get up," her eyes eventually opened in annoyance.
"5 more minutes won't kill you,"
"Maybe, but if I stay any longer, I'll probably not want to leave today," (Y/N) smiled playfully.
"That's the plan," they laughed before Shiro rolled off their bed and headed to the bathroom for a morning shower. A weight suddenly jumped onto his back, nearly knocking him off his balance. Looking over his shoulder, he saw his girlfriend mischievously grinning at him.
"Want some company?" He smirked playfully and quickly dragged her into the bathroom with him.

The launch area was usually off limits to the public, but since (Y/N) was not Shiro's girlfriend but also a highly respected member of the Garrison and a notable pilot in her own right, she was an exception. She tightly clung to her significant other, not minding the bulk of his suit.
"Come back as soon as you can you dork,"
"I promise I'll be careful. And when I get back, there's something I really want to talk about," her eyebrow cocked a bit, but before she could question him, 2 other males joined them.
"Are you ready to go Shiro?"
"All set Dr Holt, I'm just saying good bye to my girlfriend,"the significantly younger boy did a double take.
"Geeze Shiro! You not only have a hot girlfriend, but she's also one of the Garrison's best!? Not fair," (Y/N) blushed.
"Its good to meet you Dr Holt and Matt, Shiro's told me a lot about you. And I wouldn't say I'm one of the best," Dr Holt smiled.
"Don't be modest dear. The famous (Y/N) (L/N) is practically a legend among the Garrison and among us since your partner her talks about you all the time!" It was Shiro's turn to blush as you shot him a flattered look.
"All the time huh?"
"Anyways, we should get set," Shiro gave (Y/N) one last kiss and placed his forehead on hers.
"Take of yourself while I'm gone,"
"I should tell you that. Get them there safely,"
"Always," He eventually let go of her hands and led his team to their ship. With one last wave, (Y/N) ran to the watching area. In her rush however, she accidentally ran into a girl with glasses that looked significantly like Matt. She offered her a hand to help her to her feet.
"I'm so sorry! Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fin- wait! You're (Y/N) (L/N)! You're like a legend!"
"So I've been told," The girl offered a hand.
"I'm Katie Holt! It's an honor to meet you ma'am!" (Y/N) smiled gently.
"Likewise Katie. Judging by your last name, I'm guessing you're Dr Holt's daughter and Matt's sister," She rubbed her head sheepishly.
"Yeah, I just came to see them off. So why are you here ma'am?"
"Just (Y/N) Katie, ma'am makes me feel old. And I'm just here to wish my boyfriend off as well,"
"Your boyfriend? Wait, is he the pilot!?" She snickered.
"Well it's obviously not your brother,"
"Wow, I didn't know you and Shirogane were dating!" The older girl leaned against a fence.
"We like to keep it from the general public. We'd never get any privacy otherwise,"
"I guess that's understandable,"
"Well it was nice talking to you Katie. I hope to see you someday at the Garrison," Katie bashfully saluted, unsure what else to do.
"Yes ma'am!" (Y/N) giggled before turning to see the launch.
"Come back safe," she whispered under her breath.

(Y/N) stared at the screen with a blank face, unsure how to react to this. She had had a bad feeling throughout the entire work day as the higher ups couldn't even look her in the eye and gave remorseful glances when they thought she was looking. Upon returning home and turning on the news, she found out why. On the screen was a picture of her boyfriend with text on the bottom:
Kerberos Mission Crash- Pilot Error Suspected
Tears leaked from her eyes as she hugged her knees. Takashi would never crash like this, he was too careful! It couldn't be true, he couldn't be gone like this! Her hands fisted.
"I won't believe it!"
That night was rougher than other nights Shiro had been gone. The weeks to follow, (Y/N) became noticeably more tired, but she carried on as if nothing was wrong. In her free time, she snooped into the Garrison files, becoming more and more suspicious of this whole "Pilot Error" story with each file she found, eventually finding out that the ship hadn't crash, but had just vanished in thin air and no one could tell her where her boyfriend was now. She had thought about confronting the commander, but quickly discarded it. As much as it pained her, her position at the Garrison would be at great risk if she revealed her snooping and her job allowed her to live a very fruitful life. For now, she'd have to remain silent. A few weeks after that, (Y/N) was surprised by a familiar face being dragged away by security.
"Just tell me what happened!" The commander simply ignored her, letting security do their job.
"Katie!" She shouted. All eyes turned to her in surprise. The guards saluted and she saluted to the commander.
"(L/N), do you know this girl?"
"Um, yeah. She and I met when we saw the launch of the Kerberos mission," (Y/N) struggled with those words and surprisingly, the Commander understood, deciding not to pry at wounds that were still healing.
"I'll take her out, don't worry," the Commander nodded.
"Very well, but security, make sure to take her picture to make sure she's not allowed back in here,"
"Yes sir!" After the guards got their picture, (Y/N) led Katie back to her lab which was luckily in the direction of the exit. The Holt girl crossed her arms in defiance.
"I'm not gonna stop you know! There's no way the Kerberos crashed!"
"You're right Katie,"
"Ma'am you have to believe me. I mean Shiro was your boyfriend you'd know he'd never- Wait what?" The pilot sat in her revolving chair.
"I believe you Katie, and I know for a fact the ship did not crash. That was a cover story," Katie didn't know how to react to the fact that someone finally believed her and just stood there awkwardly.
"Oh...so, what did happen?" (Y/N) sighed.
"That I'm not sure of. All I know is that the ship just vanished while on Kerberos,"
"Ships don't just vanish!"
"Well this one did. But there's some good news," she raised an eyebrow.
"What,"
"If the ship didn't crash and if remains haven't been found, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that crew is still alive,"
"But lost in space. How will we find them!? If the Garrison looks and finds them, they'll have to admit they made the story up and loose face! They'd never do that," (Y/N) rubbed her temple.
"I know it might be difficult, but we have to try something. I'm doing all I can from the inside, but I have eyes watching me for most of the day. I need more help," Katie sighed.
"I'd help, but it's gonna be impossible for me to come in here now!" There was a moment of silence as gears began turning in (Y/N)'s brain as she caught a glimpse of glasses poking from Katie pocket. She smirked knowingly.
"I have a plan,"

"Pidge Gunderson" was accepted into the Garrison by means of a recommendation from you. Katie's disguise worked flawlessly and she was now a navigator cadet. You ruffled her hair.
"Nice job kid, this should make things easier. Where'd you get the name though, I'm curious," She smiled in a very adorkable way.
"Well my family have German roots and Gunderson is a last name there and Pidge...my brother gave me that nickname," She looked a bit sadden by the memory, so (Y/N) grabbed her by the shoulders and forced her to look her in the eye.
"We'll find them Katie, I promise,"
"I hope you're right,"
"Hey!" A voice shouted. (Y/N) quickly stood next to the "boy" and saw 2 other cadets running towards them, more than likely Pidge's teammates.
"You must be our navigator. I'm Lance, I'll be your pilot, and big guy's Hunk, our engineer,"
"Well, I look forward to seeing how you boys advance," (Y/N) said coyly. Lance's jaw dropped.
"You're (Y/N) (L/N)! One of the only female pilots in the Garrison and one of the best. You know you're a lot more gorgeous in person," he flirted. (Y/N) rolled her eyes.
"Stand down cadet, I'm your teacher, not someone you can flirt with. I expect you 3 to play nice. Understood?"
"Yes ma'am," they saluted. She nodded and walked off, leaving Pidge to get aquatinted with her new teammates. The pilot walked to an open area and looked up at the sky, as if she were trying to find her lost love from the ground.
"Takashi, I will find. Don't worry,"
