Chapter 3: The Castle of Lions

So sorry this took so long to make. I figured it was for the best I let the series finish. Given the new information, I will try to address it best I can, and yes that includes Adam. I own nothing
Ch 3: Paladins
The blue lion burst from the strange portal into an unfamiliar sky. The group inside shook to recuperate.
"Whoa," Lance stated, looking out at an unfamiliar planet. "That was-," Hunk didn't let him finish as he vomited. Everyone looked away.
"Sorry," he moaned. Pidge readjusted their glasses.
"I'm just surprised it took this long" Shiro and (Y/N) glanced around at the stars ahead of them.
"I don't recognize any of these constellations. (Y/N)?" She shook her head.
"Nope, we must be a long, long way from Earth,"
"The Lion seems to want to go to this planet," Lance explained as the Lion came closer to the planet. "I think it's heading home," the mechanical feline burst foreword in a blaze of speed, heating up as they entered the planet's atmosphere. Everyone crowded together, trying not to let the pressure crush them. Lance looked rather annoyed.
"Guys, personal space. Hunk, your breath is killing me. (Y/N), you're fine where you are," the female pilot was pinned between her boyfriend's chest and her student's back. Shiro shot Lance a look.
"Ahem," Lance sweatdropped.
"Sorry,"
"Um, is it just me or is anyone else having second thoughts about flying through a mysterious wormhole?" Hunk asked, still crouched over Lance. "Why are we listening to a robotic lion anyway?"
"It got us away from that alien warship, didn't it?" Lance defended the lion. The pressure began to balance out as Keith stood up.
"I don't know if you noticed but we're in an alien warship,"
"Oh, are you scared?" The Cuban boy teased.
"With you at the helm? Terrified," (Y/N), once again held up by Shiro who was gripping the walls, let out a whistle.
"All right, knock it off. What did I say about playing nice?" She stated while looking around the cockpit..
"(Y/N)'s right," Shiro stated. "No one's happy to be in this situation but we're here now. If we want to get through this, we've got to do it together," there was that leadership (Y/N) had always admired in her boyfriend, even when she had hated him back in the day.
"So what do we do?" Pidge asked.
"First, we find out where we're headed," (Y/N) answered. "Lance?"
"I don't know," He retorted, rubbing his neck. "I'm sorry. The lion's not talking to me anymore. Wait! Wait, wait, wait! Shh!" He quickly retracted. "I think I hear something," there was a small high pitched noise.
"I'm hearing it too," Keith stated.
"It's, uh-It's kind of a-a high-pitched squeal?" Hunk stated. (Y/N) took one look at Lance's smirk and one sniff of the air before punching him right in the skull before cover her nose with the others.
"Come on, Lance!" Shiro growled. Lance rubbed the back of his head where the female pilot had punched him.
"Geeze, teach, did you have to hit so hard?" She glared at him.
"Be grateful I held back!"
"But seriously, there's a castle up ahead," Everyone forgot the smell and looked forward with wide eyes at the giant, regal structure up ahead.
"Wow," everyone said in unison as the lion's eyes glowed a bright yellow while the castle's tower returned with a bright aqua light. The machine landed with a thud in what looked like a  courtyard. Shiro gripped his girlfriend tighter.
"Keep your guard up,"
"Shiro," (Y/N) looked at him in surprise.
"Something wrong?" Pidge asked. Shiro didn't even look at the tech wiz.
"My crew was captured by aliens once. I'm not going to let it happen again," the crew dismounted from the lion, after making certain the air on the planet was breathable, and stared at the castle. The mechanical cat stood up, worrying the group.
"No! I knew it was gonna eat us! No!" Hunk screamed as the lion roared loudly, causing a door to open, granting access to the castle. Hunk peaked out from behind (Y/N) who he had once again latched onto and who was behind Shiro.
"Oh, the door is open. Guess I was wrong about you," he admitted sheepishly, before his mentor gave him a look that made him let go. The group made their way into the castle, their footsteps echoing off the walls.
"Hello!" Hunk yelled as his voice echoed. Everyone looked at him like he was crazy but he just shrugged unapologetically. Eventually, they came across a staircase that seemed...off. (Y/N) knelt down and put on a puzzled face.
"That's...odd," Pidge joined her.
"Yeah, from the size of the lion, I expected these steps to be bigger," There was a flash of blue light as the group was encompassed by the glow. They stood frozen in amazement.
"Hold for identity scan," a robotic voice stated as a scanner was used on them.
"Why are we here? What do you want with us?" Shiro demanded. His fellow pilot rolled her eyes.
"I doubt it's gonna answer you Takashi," When the scan was done, the castle was lit, the hallway in front of them methodically so. (Y/N) was the first to step forward before looking back at her compatriots.
"Come on boys! Slowly lighting hallways usually lead somewhere!" Shiro immediately moved alongside (Y/N) while the others were a little behind them. As the students looked around for any signs of life, (Y/N) looked at her boyfriend. He was a little more ridged and he was walking a little too close to her. She didn't mind, but his aura was noticeable off.
"Takashi?" She whispered. Shiro looked at her, only now realizing how he was acting.
"Oh, s-sorry," she bumped his shoulder lovingly.
"It's fine. Are you ok? I'm not gonna disappear the minute I leave your sight," he sighed.
"I-I just want to make sure-," he couldn't find the words to explain himself. Luckily he didn't need to as he felt her hand slip into his real one. She kissed him on the cheek.
"It's ok, I get it,"
He smiled at her and they kept their hands locked. Eventually, the group came upon a chamber with strange pods circling the room.
"Hello?" Hunk said again.
"Where are we?" Lance asked. Pidge stopped at a strange device.
"It's some kind of control room," suddenly, there was steam as 2 pods rose up from the ground, 2 shadowy forms locked inside. Hunk jumped behind the panel.
"Are these guys dead?" The centered pod opened up, revealing a white haired woman with pointed ears, strange markings beneath her eyes, and what looked like a crown on her forehead. Her eyes opened as she gasped.
"Father!" She tried stepping forward, only to fall. Lance dove in and caught her. As she regained her footing, Lance turned to flirt mode.
"Hello," he greeted suavely.
"Who are you? Where am I?" She asked, looking at the other members of the team.
"I'm Lance. And you're right here in my arms," (Y/N) facepalmed.
"Here we go," she muttered.
"Your ears," the woman said looking at Lance's face.
"Yeah?" Lance asked confused.
"They're hideous. What's wrong with them?" (Y/N) snorted as Lance got a bit upset.
"Nothing's wrong with them! They heard exactly what you said about them!" He screamed as the woman suddenly had him on his knees in a grab hold, interrogating him.
"Who are you? Where is King Alfor? What are you doing in my castle?" The boy teared up as her grip tightened.
"A giant blue lion brought us here! That's all we know!" She looked at the group with mistrust, letting Lance go.
"How do you have the Blue Lion? What happened to its Paladin?" What are you all doing here? Unless...How long has it been?"
"We don't know what you're talking about," Shiro answered as Hunk cowered behind him. "Why don't you tell us who you are? Maybe we can help," She hesitated for a moment before replying.
"I am Princess Allura Of Planet Altea. I've got to find out where we are and how long we've been asleep," She shoved past the team and placed her hands on the control panels, making them glow. A screen popped up, covering Pidge's bewildered face.
"Okay, that's how that works," As Allura worked with the monitor, the second pod opened up. This time, it was a man with similar markings and ears as Allura with orange hair and a mustache. He gasped as her launched at Lance who was the closest to the pod.
"Enemy combatants!" Lance stepped aside as he flew past him. The orange haired man stumbled back as the group just stared, unsure how to process this.
"Quiznak!" He cursed, turning to face them. "You're lucky I have a case of the old "sleep chamber knees". Otherwise I'd grab your head like this, wrap you up like so and 1,2,3, sleepy time!" He made gestures as he said this. Lance joined in, egging on the orange haired male, the 2 devolving into a petty squabble. (Y/N) leaned against Shiro, rolling her eyes.
"Should I break them?"
"It's nothing physical. I think we're fine," he stated firmly.
"It can't be!" Allura said, rising from the screen.
"What is it?" The male asked.
"We've been asleep fo 10,000 years! Planet Altea and all of the planets in our solar system have been destroyed," the two looked crestfallen as the humans stared in pity. "Coran, Father is gone. Our entire civilization...Zarkon!" The last word was a growl and (Y/N) felt Shiro tensed. She looked up and saw a look of horror.
"Zarkon?" He nearly whispered. Allura turned to him.
"He was the King of the Galra. A vile creature! An enemy to all free people!"
"I remember now...I was his prisoner," His partner looked at him.
"Are you sure?" Allura looked shocked.
"He's still alive? Impossible!"
"I can't explain it, but it's true. He's searching for a super weapon called Voltron,"
"He's searching for it because he knows it's the only thing that can defeat him," the Princess explained. "And that's exactly why we must find it before he does,"
For a while, Allura was glued to the monitor while Coran pleaded with her to rest.
"Princess you must eat, it's been 10,000 years!"
"I'm not hungry,"
"Man, 10,000 years?" Lance said. "That's like one thousand plus ten,"
"That's times ten," Keith corrected.
"Whatever, dropout," the 2 glared at each other before (Y/N) pulled on both their hairs.
"Boys..." she stated ominously.
"We'll play nice! We'll play nice!" They pleaded before she let go and walked back to Shiro.
"I haven't eaten since breakfast and I'm starving!" Hunk interjected, holding his stomach.
"Yeah, but you've thrown up like five times," Pidge pointed out.
"Hmm, good point," he admitted before digging into the mysterious and unappetizing looking green goop that Coran had brought for Allura. Shiro looked around in amazement.
"I can't believe your civilization created such advanced technology 10,000 years ago," he admired. "It must've been an incredible place,"
"Yes, it was..." Coran replied melancholy. "But now it is gone and we're last Alteans alive," Coran and Allura hugged as the others remained silent. There was nothing they could say. (Y/N) heard a soft squeaking from the sleeping pod. She walked to it and bend down before turning back and smiling at the 2.
"Not quite you two," the 2 ran over and were happy to see a bundle of mice who waved happily at them. Suddenly, an alarm beeped and a red screen popped up from the control panel, a ship on it.
"A Galra battleship has set its tracker to us!" Coran gasped.
"How did it find us?" Allura asked. Lance crossed his arms and looked suspiciously at Keith.
"I'm not sure, but I bet it's Keith's fault," The black haired boy glared at him.
"Say whatever you've got to say to make yourself feel better, after getting us stuck on the other side of a wormhole!" The 2 were forehead to forehead.
"I'll stick you in a wormhole!" Shiro pushed the 2 apart.
"Stow it cadets! This is no time to place blame, it's time to work as a team,"
"Shiro's right you guys," (Y/N) agreed. "How long before they arrive?"
"At their speed?" Coran began counting on his fingers and making calculations. "I'd say probably a couple of days,"
"Good. Let them come!" Allura retorted firmly. "By the time they arrive here, you six will have reformed Voltron, and together, we will destroy Zarkon's empire!" Hunk burped, awkwardly breaking the tension.
"Sorry. Food goo," (Y/N) facepalm and shook her head.
"Princess, there are six of these lions. How are we going to find the rest?" Shiro asked. Allura led the team to another chamber and stood at the center of it.
"King Alfor connected the lions to Allura's life force," Coran explained as light enveloped the princess. "She alone is key to the lion's whereabouts,"
A huge star map popped up, taking up the entire room.
"Amazing!" (Y/N) said with wide (E/C) eyes.
"These are coordinates," Pidge recognized. (Y/N) looked closer.
"You're right, it looks like the Black Lion is in the same location as the Blue Lion," Coran pushed closer to them.
"Look at your primitive synapses firing away in their little brain cage," the girls gave him the stink eye as Allura looked to them.
"Very observant. That's because the Black Lion is in the castle,"
"To keep the Black Lion out of Zarkon's hands, King Alfor locked it in the castle," Coran added. "It can only be freed if the other four lions are present," Allura nodded.
"As you have found, the lions choose their pilots. It is a mystical bond and cannot be forced. The quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in his or her lion. Together, they form something greater than science can explain," Allura pulled the image of the Black Lion to her.
"The Black Lion is the decisive head of Voltron. It will take a pilot who is a born leader and in control at all times, someone whose men will follow without hesitation," the image went over to Shiro. "That is why, Shiro, you will pilot the Black Lion," (Y/N) bumped her shoulder to him smiling.
"A born leader who can make anyone follow without hesitation? Sounds about," he smiled down at her and gave her a side hug. Allura smiled.
"The Green Lion has an inquisitive personality and needs a pilot of intellect and daring," the image of the Green Lion appeared in front of Pidge. "Pidge, you will pilot the Green Lion," Katie smiled. Allura turned to Lance.
"The Blue Lion-," Lance cut her off.
"Hold up, let me guess, takes the most handsome slash best pilot of the bunch?" (Y/N) bopped him on the head.
"Am I going to have to keep doing this or will you learn your lesson?" Allura looked unimpressed before moving on.
"The Yellow Lion is caring and kind. It's pilot is one who puts the needs of others above his own. His heart must be mighty," the image of the yellow machine moved to Hunk. "As the leg of Voltron, you will lift the team up and hold them together," Hunk held a finger to him, as if asking if she was being serious.
"You've got the biggest heart of the bunch Hunk," (Y/N) assured him. "There's no one better for the job,"
"The Red Lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master," the image appeared in her hand. "It's faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable," she pushed it towards Keith. "It's pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instinct than skill alone. Keith, you will fly the Red Lion,"
"What? This guy?" Lance sounded unsure. Allura nodded.
"Unfortunately, I cannot locate the Red Lion's coordinates yet. There must be something wrong with the castle. After 10,000 years, it might need some work," she joked.
"Don't worry, we'll find it soon," Coran reassured her. "They don't call me "The Coranic" for nothing....it's because it sounds like "mechanic". So Coranic, mechanic," he twirled his mustache before rambling off. Allura turned to (Y/N).
"Finally, the White Lion is powerful and tactical. As the heart and wings of Voltron, it is second only to the Black Lion, so it's pilot must be as skilled as they are ready to lead their cohorts and discipline them when needed. But as the heart, the pilot must also be nurturing and bring out the best in their fellow pilots. As such, (Y/N) will command the White Lion," the White Lion appeared before her. It was larger than the others, yet smaller than the Black Lion. It was pure white with a golden halo around the top of the head along with shielded wings on the back. It's claws were also a light shade of blue. Shiro smirked at his girlfriend.
"A firm leader but with a gentle touch. Almost like a mom," She stuck her tongue out and punched his cheek playfully.
"If I'm the mom, does that make you the dad?" The hologram roared as it and the others flew up in blazes of light.
"Once the lions are untied, you will form Voltron, the most powerful warrior ever known, the Defender of the Universe," the giant projection of Voltron posed in front of them before fading.
"Awesome," Lance stated as Pidge was silent with awe.
"Wait, okay, we're going to be in there and flying lions. Got that part," Hunk started. "How do lions turn into legs? Is this gonna be a long trip, because I have to pee. Do you people pee?"
"We don't have much time. (Y/N) and I will go after the White Lion. Lance, you take Hunk and get the yellow one. Keith will go with Pidge to get the Green Lion. If Allura locates the Red Lion, go and get it,"
"In the meantime, I'll get the castle's defense systems ready. They'll be sorely need," Allura added. Coran stepped up.
"I'll ready two pods and load the coordinates so that you can reach the White and Green Lions,"
(Timeskip)
The group gathered in the hub and began loading onto the ships. (Y/N) looked at Pidge and Keith before turning to Shiro.
"Are you sure we should be sending those 2 together? You could go with Pidge and I'll take Keith," Shiro shook his head.
"They'll be fine. Besides, it looks like the White Lion is locate behind an asteroid field. You're gonna need an experienced partner to get through it," She smirked and leaned up to him.
"You sure it's not just because you want to get me alone in space?" He grinned before hugging her.
"I can't say I'm not looking forward to a little alone time with you, and I vaguely remember the last time you and I were alone in a cockpit together," Her face became red. She pushed her face into his chest.
"You promised you wouldn't talk about that! We could've been in so much trouble! My brothers would've destroyed you!" He smirked.
"Well, you seemed pretty happy when we were doing..." She cover his mouth.
"There are children here!"
"Gross guys," Keith said from across the room while the others gagged. Shiro chuckle.
"You're all adults, it's a very natural part of a relationship!" (Y/N) broke the hug and pushed him to the pod while he was laughing.
"Let's just go!"
Eventually, they loaded up and headed into space. The wormholes opened up. They'd only be opened for 2 hours so they'd have to be quick. They pushed through and stared out at their destination. Shiro put his hand on her shoulder.
"You ready?" She smiled and nodded.
"Let's do this,"
