Ruby: You're right. My mistake. But let me switch the topic to you. How was beacon?

Now

*We see Penny and Blake on a car. Ruby insisted that Penny drive her home since it was too late to walk. So we saw them in a car together, they didn't speak. Didn't even look at each other. Neither of them wanted to be here, but one smile from Ruby made them both buckle under and agree to her demands. Penny parked her car and finally looked at Blake*

Penny: ok. We're here. Get out of my car

Blake: Thank you for the ride. Tell Ruby I appreciate her to

*Blake said, just trying to be polite, and show some common courtesy, as she got out of the car. Once, Penny saw her out of the car. She frowned deeply and spoke*

Penny: You know what my momma would really appreciate? You leaving her alone. Since I know you are the reasons she's been having more nightmares than before

Blake:....and with that depressing image, I'm out

*Blake said with an already sad sigh. As she went inside her apartment complex, she climbed the stairs. Blake opened the door to her home, and she saw her teammates looking at her, yang being the first to speak up*

Yang: There you are. What the fuck Blake? We've been calling you, and you never picked up

Blake: oh. Yeah. Sorry about that. I got distracted, just...watching ruby work

*Blake said, not even looking a little ashamed, quite the opposite, the cat in her was happy. She had ruby all to herself all day long.*

Ilia: did she finish Penny's body?

Blake: she did. So how was jaune and the others?

*Blake asked, making them all groan. Seems like Blake was the only one who had a good day. Weiss scoffed after she finished groaning. And crossed her arms, extremely miffed*

Weiss: horrendous. As always the man can't take a hint. That he's got an equipment that I'm not looking to use. And Pyrrha is still trying to get the stupid boy to notice her. Honestly, I don't know what she sees in him

Blake: I don't know what ilia sees in you, but you don't see me questioning it

*Blake said with a small smirk, since that statement caused a fury of reaction, a blush from Weiss. A glare from yang, directed at Weiss. And a blushing glare from ilia, directed at Blake*

Ilia: fuck you.

Weiss: I share her sentiments

*Weiss grumbled, as she moved herself, to be farther away from ilia. To protect herself from the wrath of her overprotective sister*

Blake: but I do agree. Pyrrha needs to find someone else. Since when he finally gives up, he'll end up with her. Out of pity. Not out of love.... Hopefully I don't fall on the same fate with ruby....

*Blake said, mumbling the last part. And since no one in the room had super hearing, like herself and to a lesser extent ruby, no one heard that last sentence. So the conversation continued *

Yang: only time will tell. Anyhow. We told everyone that you found a new book, and we couldn't drag you out of the room

Blake: so the default lie, gotcha.

*Blake said casually, as she walked over to her friends, and sat down on the available chair. Her small smile, never leaving her face*

Yang: so. What did you and ruby do?

Blake: I just watched her work

*Blake said with a smitten sigh, yang looked at her confused. And she wasn't the only one to do so. The other two also looked at her with a raised eyebrow*

Yang: that's it?

Blake: is something the matter?

*Blake asked moving her head to the side a little, confused on why they were questioning her. Yang made her thoughts known to her*

Yang: no no, it's just that I would personally be bored, if that's all I did

Blake: I was able to read a digital book, while the girl I desire is practically next to me. I have no complaints. Today was a terrific day for me

*Blake said with a sincere smile, for a second she personally felt happy, before she had to force a fake smile on her face. To hide her sadness*

Weiss: well we are glad you have some fun with her. In your own way. I'm sure she'll talk to me about it. In a couple of days

Blake:.....your gonna go see her?

*Blake asked, giving Weiss her full attention. Weiss gave a short nod, and stopped Blake's train of thought before it came out*

Weiss: yes. And you can't join. We are heading to the opera. Oh! I'm already so excited. Finally to be able to spend it with someone who'll enjoy it. And not someone who'll play on that stupid console the entire time

Ilia: well I'm sorry. But 5 hours of them singing and dancing, got boring!

*Ilia said with her arms in the air. She loved her, she really did. But 5 hours?! That was borderline torture. She was ready to give up national secrets, at the 3, hour mark. Weiss looked rather miffed with ilia*

Weiss: hmph!

Blake: Sorry, girls. But I'm dead tired. I'm gonna go to sleep

*Blake said with a fake yawn as she left to her room. She heard her friends, saying half-hearted goodbyes, as they went back to whatever they were doing. Blake made it to her room, locking the door and closing the windows. *

Blake: You're fine, you're fine, you're fine, y... you are fine

*Blake kept muttering to herself. As her voice started to crack, she felt a lump on her throat as she looked around, passing her hand through her hair. Once, she was sure no one could hear or see her. Did she let the fake mask wash away. Blake collapsed on the bed, covering her eyes with a hand, as her breathing became ragged, with tears building up in her eyes, all stemming from the conversation with ruby, this morning*

Flashback

Ruby: You're right. My mistake. But let me switch the topic to you. How was beacon?

*Ruby asked with a small smile, Blake coughed a bit and took a few breaths to calm down when she realized how she was acting.*

Blake:Honestly, it was the best thing that happened to me. I went to beacon and made lifelong friends who are like my sisters. We defeated Salem herself and now are seen as heroes.

Ruby: I imagine it was completely different than when you were in the white fang

*Ruby said, with an even smaller smile, almost a paper thin smile. But Blake didn't notice it and just kept talking, as her smile became more genuine and happy*

Blake: I'll say, in the fang. I was just another cod in the machine, completely replaceable. Once I made it into beacon, I became my own person, I was able to have real relationships, trust people, and forgive myself for some of the things I've done. And just...live

*Blake said breathlessly, with a soft but very sincere smile on her face. Ruby, on the other hand, couldn't help but feel jealous about that. That jealousy quickly turned into sadness*

Ruby:....I'm glad you got to have that Blake

*Ruby said, trying her best, not to sound bitter, resentful, sad, or any negative emotions, but ruby being a dog faunus, a golden retriever dog faunus do that, it made it so ruby wore her emotions on her sleeves. Blake flinched when she realized she was boasting on the girl who wanted to be a huntress herself, but she couldn't because of her*

Blake: I'm... I'm sorry that you didn't rub

Ruby:Oh, it's fine. I'm not dumb enough to believe that all dreams come true, sometimes... a lot of times, dreams are just that. Dreams...

*Ruby said, the tone in her voice, was something Blake never thought she would hear, coming from the golden retriever faunus. Melancholy. Her eyes were even glazed over, as she spoke, the bitter truth that the majority of the population has to swallow*

Ruby:A lot of people don't get to live out their dreams, and you gotta let them go. I'm part of that group, I wanted to become a huntress, I wanted to make a difference in the world, to bring hope for faunus, that equality could be achieved through peace. I wanted... Adventure

*Ruby said, Blake could see a spark, a little piece of the girl she remembered ruby was, but as quickly as she came, she left, since reality set it for the dog faunus. The reality that her body now is not built for such things*

Ruby: But I couldn't become a huntress. No hunter school would accept a person who's Wheelchair bound. I couldn't make a difference in the world. All I do is make weapons for the people who do just that. But in the end? In a few generations, while those people, people like you, blake are remembered as heroes. People like me? No one remembers the weaponsmiths. The ones who build their weapons do more to the point. Nobody cares about the person who makes their weapons. Past me would be so disappointed with how her life turned out... I couldn't bring hope to anybody

Blake:You brought hope to me, seeing you again, brought hope I thought was long dead

*Blake blurted out, interrupting Ruby's little speech. She hated hearing ruby talk about herself in such a way. Ruby's smile went from paper thin to something even smaller, as she looked at Blake and gave her a ghost of a smile*

Ruby:You didn't let me finish. While I couldn't do anything that I thought I would do when I was a child. I learned to find happiness in the things that I did do, I found happiness in my work, not saying it happened just like that, or that I don't sometimes get moments of sadness. But with a lot of help from my therapist and my loved ones, I learned to let go of those childish dreams and be happy with the things I have and have accomplished

*Ruby said there was a bit of sadness in her voice, since, of course there was, her dream was taken from her unjustly, but it was only a little sadness. The rest was just acceptance. Blake wanted to say so much. She felt like saying so much, to apologize again, to want to say the perfect words to make this all go away, to say anything. But she couldn't. She just forced a smile, as they made their way to Ruby's shop*

Blake: As you should be, you've made such wonderful weapons, according to Weiss. You must be very proud

Ruby: I am, I might not be out there fighting grimm and protecting people, but I do my part, I fix and build weapons, for hunters to help people. In my own way, I'm helping keep remnant safe. Also, the fact that my daughter is keeping my dream alive also helps

*Ruby said, as they kept having small conversations as they were on their way. In the back of her head, Blake knew that she was gonna end up crying in her room after the day was over. Since she had a big hand in ruby losing her dream. How could she not feel a deep crippling guilt about it?*

Back to the present

*And there Blake was. Silently weeping on her bed. She knew she had no right to cry, no right to feel this overwhelming sadness. She didn't lose anything, while Ruby lost everything. She knew she was being self-centered and selfish, crying when she's not the victim. She's the perpetrator. But Blake couldn't help herself. She couldn't help what she was feeling. So she just cried and cried. Until she fell asleep, her eyes puffy and red, her mascara all ruined. With only one thing clear on her mind*

Blake " maybe it's best if I leave Ruby alone for good...."
