In Menagerie

*We see Blake and her family welcoming the faunus In the port. Blake was frowning looking at all of them, a lot of them were injured, missing parts of there bodies, all of them were faunus that were saved from the mining camps of different atlas corporations. Blake heard her father speaking welcoming the newcomers, something she's heard a thousand times over, she kept her gaze on the ship and saw 2 white fang guards helping a little girl come off the ship, Blake frowned deeply since this girl didn't look like a faunus. She walked to them without her parents noticing, she made it to the guards and stood in front of them*

Blake:stop, what is a human doing here with us?

*Blake said with more venom then Any little girl should have, at the word human did the little girl start to sniffle and cry again, one of the soldiers started comforting the girl, while the other was glaring at the princess of Menagerie*

Ghira:what is the meaning of this? Blake your supposed to be with your mother

Blake:but dad, there's a human here!

*Blake said pointing at the red hair girl, ignoring the fact that her father just appeared out of nowhere, like he always does, ghira looked at the girl and unlike Blake he understood instantly. He grew a sad smile and sighed*

Ghira:my apologies for my daughter, please pass through, make sure you take her to the medical clinic with our other injured people

Soldier:yes sir, thank you sir

*The solider saluted his leader and both of them walked pass them, the woman soldier didn't miss giving the cat girl a nasty glare for making the little girl cry, before leaving. Blake looked at her father angry*

Blake:dad, why are you letting a human in here?!

Ghira: I didn't, she's a faunus. A faunus that had her faunus ears cut off

Present

*Yang winced at that and looked at Blake who had a guilty smile on her face*

Yang:Jesus, Blake... You really don't make a good first impression do you?

Blake:I'm not proud of it, but I was a little kid what did I know?

Back to the story

*Blake eyes widen and she got quiet almost instantly, she looked passed her father to the girl who she could see was still trembling in the woman's arms*

Blake:o...oh...

Ghira:I know your only 7 Blake, but you need to control that hatred you have, if your gonna be the next leader of this place one day, you need

Blake:to keep a level head, I know I know

Present

Yang:you? The leader of an island...god your dad must be so proud of you right now

Blake:knock it off, you want to hear the story or you want to nit-pick?

*Blake said with a sigh, she took her father's hand and they walked to Kali, her mother who was ordering people around, helping make this day as smooth as possible*

Blake:I have to apologize to her, don't I...?

Ghira:that would be a start, maybe you can give her one of your toys. I'm sure that she would love that

*Ghira said with a soft smile, they returned to helping there people, with Blake just standing there, learning through seeing. It took a few days for Blake to muster up the courage to see the little girl again, but she did. Blake was following behind to a room, they stopped and the nurse looked down at the princess*

Nurse: ruby rose has gone through something very dramatic, please keep your conversation light

Blake:I promise

*Blake said as the lady opened the door, Blake walked inside and saw the girl again, she was looking out the window. Ruby looked at Blake and flinched, Blake could see the fear behind the girl's eyes, and she felt sick to her stomach, seeing the girl she'll one day betray for a asshole who'll just use her and abandonded her the first....*

Back to the present

Yang:ok, let's leave the self hate for after the story ok?

Blake:ok, ok, just...give me a second

*Blake said taking a few calming breaths. She took another sip of the awful tea before she felt better*

Back to the past

*she was looking out the window. Ruby looked at Blake and flinched, she pulled up her covers a little, the poor things was trembling, Blake gave an awkward wave and took a step forward*

Blake:uh..h..hi, I'm...I'm very sorry about before

Ruby:.......

*Ruby kept looking at her, she was even whining a little, Blake didn't need to see her tail to know ruby was a dog faunus, but that's not important. Shut up yang, I said it's not important. Fine! She's a golden retriever dog faunus, now shut up and let me tell the story! Ahem. Blake felt nervous under her gaze so she quickly placed a plushy on the bed*

Blake:I, I got you this, it's...my favorite plushy. I want you to have....as an apology

Ruby:......

*Ruby kept looking at Blake with those big canine eyes, Blake gulped giving a small very awkward laugh, rubbing her arm, ruby got out of the covers and grabbed the plushy, hugging it softly*

Blake: please day something, I'm not good at talking to people

Ruby:I..it's very nice, thank you...and apology accepted

*Ruby muttered softly, Blake took a small breath she knew she was holding, and slowly sat down on the chair next to the bed*

Blake:g.. good, i, I mean we should introduce ourselves. Mom always telling me to do that...well she's telling me to put the book down and then do that but you know

Back to the present

Yang:holy shit, that's why you don't talk a lot! Your a nervous talker

*Yang said slamming her fist on the table in exitment, Blake took an annoyed huff at being interrupted again*

Blake: I'm not a whatever you just called me

Yang:you so are, in normal situations you stay quiet. But every time things get awkward your always the first one to talk! Go on tell me I'm wrong

*Yang said with a smug smile, Blake's eyes started to twitch as she gave her friend a small glare, since she was completely right*

Blake: you know, maybe I should be telling this to Weiss, I'm sure she'll listen without interruptions

Yang:no, no, I promise I'll be good!

*Yang pleaded wanting to know more about this rose, Blake sighed and continued her story*

Back to the past

Blake: I'm Blake, Blake belladonna

Ruby: I'm...I'm ruby, Ruby rose

*Ruby said with a small smile that made Blake smile in return, Blake scooted the chair a bit close to the bed*

Blake:so, where....where are your parents?

Ruby:p..people were running, loud guns were shooting, mom and dad told me that I should run and they'll be right behind me. I ran, they weren't behind me when I stopped....

*Ruby said sadly, both of them little kids, there only concern should be school, having a crush, if there mother packed there favorite food for lunch time, but no. Both of them and many more like them, they were so young, and already knew of death, already seen it with there own eyes. Blake gave her a sad smile*

Blake:I'm really sorry for your lost

Ruby:thanks...

*An awkward silence filled the air again, since what were they supposed to say now? They were still kids, They just said that since that what there parents always told them to say, ruby looked down at Blake who had something else in her hands*

Ruby:what's with the book?

Blake:oh, uh well I figured if the plushy thing didn't work, I could read you a story

*Blake said, her awkward but well meaning smile returning, she felt relief when she saw ruby smiling too*

Ruby:I like stories, mom always told me about fairy tails, like the rose of vacuo. Do you know that one?

Blake:I... can't say I do. But I hope you like this one, it's one of my favorites

*Blake said, as she started reading, to her it was small, and something so simple, but it made ruby smile again*

Back to the present

Blake: that's how our friendship started, I would visit her and read to her every day, I can still see her eyes, how they would just light up when I would appear on that door

*Blake said softly, yang noticed a bit of a smitten smile on her little cat companion, yang couldn't help but grow a teasing smile at her*

Yang:so, this ruby must've meant a lot to you huh

Blake:she did...until I screwed it all up and ruined her life

*Blake said with a frown, whatever happiness that manages to crawl out of the trenches it was shot by a soldier of guilt and sadness. Yang rubbed her back*

Yang:I wouldn't say ruined, she has her own business! And quite the successful if she's got people like winter and Weiss as customers, she has to be doing great for herself

Blake:Yang, the girl dreamed of being a huntress, she didn't become one because of me, you can say whatever you want, but I know I'm the root cause of why she's not one today

*Blake said with a frustrated sigh, thinking of that night, of that choice, of that mistake that cost her more then she knew. She shook her head, and gave yang a forced smile*

Blake:but, like you said let's leave the self hate for after the story. So ruby was finally out of the hospital....
