Chapter 1️⃣4️⃣ The Kiss
She had no right to toy with his feelings like that. But seeing her on the brink of crying.. his gaze softened.
"I'm sorry, Kate."
She blinked and a tear ran down hear cheek. She quickly wiped it away.
"No, you have nothing to be sorry for, Nick. I'm sorry."
He didn't know when it happened, exactly, but suddenly, they stood so close to each other their bodies were almost touching.
Kate's breath softly brushed his skin. The scent of the perfume she was wearing reached his nostrils.
Sandalwood, burnt sugar and vanilla.
Time stood still for a while.
Could she want him looking like this, his wolf side exposed?
Kate got up on her tippy-toes. Her chest was touching his. The warm feeling from before was basically searing a hole in Nick's body.
The animal in him wanted to jump her right then and there, but he stood still.
Then, after what felt like eternity, Kate's lips collided with his.
At first, the kiss was a bit awkward. Nick was afraid he'd poke her with his teeth, which were still long and sharp, but they figured it out pretty quickly and there was no going back from then on.
Nick lost himself in the kiss.
He pulled her flush against his body and growled happily. Intensifying the grip around her waist and kissing her even more ardently, he heard Kate's heartbeat quickening, smelled her arousal.
Her hands were in his hair now, gently pulling at it. Another growl erupted from deep in his throat, and for the first time, he felt like the animal and him were working towards the same goal.
This was the best day of his life.
The knock on the door barely penetrated his consciousness.
...
Kate discovered what a turn-on it was when a werewolf had their canines out while kissing.
The little pinpricks of pain whenever Nick wasn't careful, and right now, he wasn't, sent her over the edge, right along with his growling, which made both of their chests vibrate.
He had a tight grip around her waist, his fingers digging into the sides of her stomach.
A knock on the door transported her back to reality.
Oh, hell.
Under no circumstances could anyone see Nick right now.
She softly began to turn her head, wanting to break the kiss momentarily so she could get the door, but Nick didn't want to stop.
Gently nipping at her lower lip, he adjusted his grasp around her midsection.
"Nick, are you in there? Can I come in?" the voice behind the door sounded.
Somehow, Kate managed to get her mouth free for long enough to yell back: "Nope, just a second!"
Reluctantly, she placed her hands on Nick's shoulders and pushed him back.
His head dropped forward, trying to close the sudden distance between them, but she stepped back, laughing.
"Just let me get the door," she whispered, slightly out of breath.
Nick's lips were still parted, the tips of his canines visible.
He tilted his head to the side, a very animalistic movement. His golden gaze was strangely unfocused.
Suddenly, his mouth was on hers again.
"Oookay, Romeo!" Kate pushed him back, a little harder this time. Nick growled quietly in response.
Apparently, her werewolf didn't want to listen.
She spotted a closet in the far corner. Grabbing Nick by the arm, she dragged him across the room. He let her, not putting up a fight.
Once they'd reached the closet, Kate shoved him in there. It was dark and his amber eyes were glowing.
"Stay," she told Nick before closing the closet doors.
She quickly rushed to the door, sticking her head out.
It was none other than Hugo who was smiling back at her, the coffee Nick had made for him in his left hand.
"Hey, Kate, sorry to bother you. Is Nick in there by any chance? I've been looking for him."
He tried to peek inside the room. Kate made no intention to move, so it was of little use.
"No, he isn't, and I haven't seen him actually. You should check the copy room," she suggested.
"I've already checked it."
"Well, he isn't here, either, so you need to check somewhere else." She was getting impatient.
Hugo didn't reply, instead studying her quietly.
Tousled hair, rosy cheeks, puffy lips. It didn't take a genius to figure it out. "Were.. were you two making out?"
Kate blinked.
"You were! I'm going. I'm gone." Almost spilling half of his coffee, Hugo turned around and shuffled off.
Kate sighed, closing the door. She quickly walked back to the closet and opened it.
Nick was leaning casually against the side, arms crossed in front of his chest.
His eyes were back to their usual brown colour and his canines had vanished.
He raised an eyebrow at her. "Really? 'Stay'? I'm not a dog."
"You kind of are, though."
"I do think there is a difference," he chuckled, stepping out of the closet.
"Oh, yeah? You wouldn't even let me get the door before."
Nick's cheeks reddened in embarrassment as he ran a hand trough his hair. "I got a little bit carried away," he admitted.
He looked so cute, she couldn't resist booping his nose. Nick tried to pretend to be offended, but he broke out in laughter half-way through.
Kate took his hand, pulling him in the direction of the door.
"Go and find Hugo. Maybe you can stop him before everyone knows we're- we kissed."
Nick looked at her. "Would that be so bad?"
"Do you want Stevens to know?"
"Fair point. See you?"
Kate let go of his hand, smiling. "See you."
