Chapter 16: The Stolen & The Captured
Lily's POV
I stared at the endless fall of the water, daydreaming. The Falls hunting ground was beautiful, but it lacked the protection our other camp had. It was also to close to humans for most of the Pride's liking. We only used it when there wasn't enough food in the old lands, or in times of trouble, like now.
I shifted my weight between my paws, hoping no campers come out for a midnight stroll to the waterfall, or else they might find themselves falling off a cliff. I always hated that part, though. The killing. I would do it to protect my Pride, but it didn't make me want to do it any more.
My stomach twisted with hunger. Most of the elk wouldn't migrate here for another few months. I mean, there was enough to live on, but not enough for me to have a full belly. As I continued to walk along my path, I spotted a small black leather object laying on the ground. I knew it was a human's.
I cautiously shifted into my human form, and picked up the object. It was folded in half, and had a little pocket in it with green, material in it. The rest of the object had a man's picture, and small pieces of plastic. I racked my brain for what it might be, but nothing came up immediately.
After a few moments of thinking the word finally hit me. Wallet. That was the word Dex had used. When he talked about the human world I always loved it. The sparkle of lights, glowing from their dens. The endless supply of food. The carefree ways of life. I wished I could live like that, just for a day.
Dex had always said that werecats and humans don't mix, and I knew he was right. The last time we went, the Order had tryed to kill us. It seemed unfair, to me that is, that Dex got to live his life with one foot in the human world, and one paw in ours. I wished I could be like that too.
I picked up one of the green pieces of the strange material, that felt similar to reeds on a river bank. On it, there was a face of some old lady, and lots of other scribbles. I couldn't read very well, it wasn't a necessary tool for forest life, but I could make out a few words. The main ones I noticed were 'In God we Trust'. Now I wasn't sure what God was, but I knew what the other words meant.
Suddenly it hit me. This was what Dex had called money. It was exchanged for goods or services. He said, unlike the forest world, that everything that's on your territory is not yours, and natures but it belongs to someone and you had to use money to get it. He said you used money to but food, what ever that meant, and to buy other things you need.
A dark thought flew over me. What if I went into the human world. It would break many Pride laws, but I'd always wanted to see it. I grabbed the wallet and ran into town. It was a short run, even though it was about twenty miles away. I wasn't like other humans.
When I got there, nobody was in sight. By the moon height, I could tell it was about ten-thirty. A few buildings had lights on but I dared not knock. I walked by a particular building, that smelled of meat, and saw a man pacing back and forth inside. I continued on, I didn't like that building.
I crossed a path made of a weird stone, and made it to a place that was brightly lit up. I pushed open the door, and walked in. There was a lady by the counter, who was asleep, and hadn't seen me enter. I looked around, the place that could only be a store and I brushed my hair with my fingers. I looked around to see if there was anything I wanted, but I couldn't read almost anything, and what I could make out, made no since. What were Donuts, anyways?
Finally I gave up and left the store, and the sleeping lady. I knew I could have taken what ever I wanted, but for some reason that felt wrong. As I exited the store a well muscled man entered, his face was hidden by a mask, and I couldn't help but stare. Why would someone wear such a strange thing? As soon as I went across the path again, a blaring noise sounded from the store, and I saw the man run away, with money in his hands. Okay something about that was odd.
I decided to follow him, as he trekked deeper into the woods, I knew most humans my age would have turned and fled, but I wasn't a normal human. Soon the man set the money to the ground and began sorting it. I leaped to a fallen log, and waited for a moment, a smile on my face.
"What you got there?" I asked, placing for innocence. The man jumped up, and pulled a gun from his side. Now I knew that word fine. I also knew, unless he had silver bullets loaded, I would be fine.
"Hey sweetheart, what you doing in the woods so late at night? Don't you know that's how little girls get murdered." He said. His breath smelled foul, and I knew he'd been drinking. It was an activity that some of the older werecats preformed as well. Their breaths always stung when they were done.
"What you doing in the woods so late at night? Don't you know there is a monster on the loose." I said, mimicking his words. I felt his heart race, for just a second, but then he regained control.
"That stuffs for drunks and news papers. I don't believe a word of it. Now how 'bout you run home, and pretend you ain't saw nothin." He said, his words slurring together. Another key sign he was drunk.
"But I did see something. It was you taking something that didn't belong to you. I doubt that was even your own territory." I hissed, not caring if he knew about my funny words, "You don't own that, and you should work for what you want, not just take it."
"Look, I don't want to do this." He said, his finger on the trigger. I hopped off the branch and made my way closer to him. Finally his finger, pulled down, and a loud bang echoed throughout the forest. Once the some cleared I coughed and he looked bewildered. My head would have been blown to bits if he knew what I was, and was using the right bullet.
I felt my body shift, and I lunged at this criminal man. He screamed, but it was too late. I silenced him, with one swift bite in the throat. Like I said before, I don't like to kill, but I will. I made his exit from this world quick, and mumbled a quick prayer, before dragging him to the store where he had stolen from. I put the bag of stolen items in front of the door and started to run, but something stopped me.
"Freeze werecat." A voice commanded. I turned around and found myself, face to face with the Order.

Kyra's POV
We stood in a semi-circle around the werecat. It turned to face us then shifted into a young girl, about twelve or thirteen years old. She looked familiar, or at least he cat did, and I thought she must have been with Dex, a few times before. Maybe she would tell us if the Pride had seen Dex or Mae.
"I see why Dex always says it's so irritating." She said, "Not being called by your proper name. I know you don't know my name, so I guess your excused. But my name is Lily. So call me that." She said the last part slower, as if talking to a toddler.
"Hellooo Lily." Emma said, responding in the same toddler speak.
"Yes, Hellooo" Emile said.
"Shut up, you two!" I snapped at them, "As for you" I said, gesturing to Lily, "you are in no place to make demands. So if you value your life I'd get up, and start walking."
We walked through the woods, to the house in complete silence. We were still camping out in Mae and Dex's Dad's house. He was busy with work, so we had the house to ourselves. Lily said nothing as we lead her to the house. She seemed quiet for a werecat, which was odd. I yanked open the front door and turned on the light. Lily was wide eyed when we did, and happily sat on the couch.
"So is this like a questioning?" Lily asked. "The Pride has them, and if you're guilty we kill you, then again most people don't commit crimes..."
"This is a questioning, but not about you, it's about Dex and Mae. Have you seen them?"
"Firstly, no I haven't seen Dex since he started speaking gibberish a few weeks ago, and why would I have seen Mae? She would try to kill me." Lily said. It was obvious she hadn't seen them, or was a really good lier.
"She doesn't know." I mumbled, mostly to myself.
"What don't I know?" Lily asked, a bit worried.
"Mae and Dex were both here, until a week or two ago. Then the Luner Claws got them." I said softly. I glanced at Lily, expecting to see confusion in her eyes, but instead, there was fear.
"We gotta get them back!" She said, "They'll both be dead by the full moon, or Dex will be. I'm not sure why they have Mae, so she might be dead already. Unless..." Lily trailed off, "What happened before they were taken?"
"Mae, Xander, and Dex all came to the house, and then Dex attacked us, but Mae went werecat too, it was blurry after that. The next thing I know they're gone. Xander left afterwards, before we could stop him, and Red and Dillan, just went home." I said, recalling the day.
"Mae went cat?" Lily asked, a little startled, "I should have known. She does have Alpha blood, it was only a manner of time. It also explains why the Luner Claws got her."
"What do you know of the Luner Claws?" I asked.
"The werecats call them the Claimers of Lost Souls, it is said they take werecats and make them to their bidding. On the full moon it is said that they are slaughtered. Only one in a hundred werecats escape from their clutches. They seek to make us all their slaves, but they were fools to take one with Alpha blood."
"Why? What does Alpha blood have to do with anything?"
"It is everything. When a Alpha needs it most, the moon will guide him to the most powerful weapon ever. It is hidden inside each Alpha, but can only be discovered when the moon is full. Afterwards they can use it any time. It has to do with the shift, and emotions. I'm not exactly sure." Lily said, I nodded my head and started to think.
"I don't want those two cats to be slaughtered by anyone except me. Besides they are weapons, perfect for destroying the Order." I said, then turned to the members of the Order, "We need to get them back. You can go Lily." I said to her.
"You're even more of a fool than you look if you think I'm leaving it up to a bunch of humans to rescue my Alpha. I'm coming." I opened my mouth, but shut it again. She was going to be helpful.
"Okay. So what's the plan?"
