Chapter 14: Out of Control & Crime Scenes
BEGINNING OF PART 2
Dex's POV
MY PAWS BARELY TOUCHED THE ground as I ran. The wind rippled through my fur. Two months had past since Mae and I had escaped from June. Now it was the full moon. I started to pant but I didn't care. I had never felt so alive. The trees passed by in a green blur and the smell of pine filled my nose. I heard a twig snap, and I knew she was close. Gaining on me.
I pushed myself to the max, my legs stretching out along the ground. I saw a blur of silver reach my side, and I could tell she was going to do far more than that. I then saw my target in sight. A large stump that looked like it had sprouted from the ground.
With the last bit of my energy I pushed myself towards it, not slowing down. Finally I reached it, but it was too late. Charlotte was already a head's length ahead of me and she had won. I stopped and laid down, exhausted. My tongue fell out of my mouth and I realized I was panting like a dog.
"Looks like Charlotte wins again!" Charlotte said, happily. She was prancing on the stump, like some show-pony. I rolled my eyes as she continued her taunts.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. What if I say I let you win." I said, even though, both me and Charlotte knew it wasn't true. She had always been faster than me.
"That," She said, gesturing towards my face, where my tongue was still slightly out, "Is not the face of a person who 'let me win.' It is the face of bitter defeat."
I got back up and stretched. "What time is it?" I asked sleepily. Normally I was cool with staying up all night in cat form, but I was tired from our race.
"Not even three." Charlotte said, glancing up at the moon. "Since when did you become such a grandma, Dex?"
"Fine. If you refuse to nap, then can we at least find a stream or something?" I pleaded, desperately. I was thirsty, and I needed something to drink.
"Fine... Grandma!" She said, then she nudged me playfully and led the way to a stream. I smiled to myself as I followed her.
When we finally got there, I lapped up the water thirstily. We then rested a little bit as I caught my breath. Little did I know something was about to happen that would change my life, forever.
. . .
A twig snapped in the distance, and both me and Charlotte looked that way, our ears pricked. I got up slowly and ventured into the brush. Soon Charlotte and I found ourselves in a clearing that reeked of humans. My heart rate sped up as I looked around. Something was going to happen.
Then I saw it. There was a gruff looking, middle aged man. He had a black beard and was dressed in camo. He was looking straight at us. More importantly he had a gun aimed at us. A low hiss escaped my lips as I spotted him.
A shot rang out. It hit my fur but went flying off. The man looked startled. He wasn't more startled than me though. Charlotte seemed different now, her eyes were in slits. She hissed at the man, getting closer and closer. Another shot was heard, but it went flying off of Charlotte's fur uselessly.
What happened next was unbelievable. Charlotte jumped on the man, attacking him. Then I heard it. It was deep in the back of my mind but it was there.
Go, It whispered to me.
What? I asked, back to it, slightly worried why I was hearing voices.
GO! It said, much stronger now.
Suddenly I lost control of my body. I knew my eyes were in slits. It was just like the time the Moon Shade was injected into my body, when I was with the Society of the Cat. I was no longer in control. I could see what I was doing but I couldn't control my actions. The one thing I did notice was that I had much more power.
I saw Charlotte move aside from the man, head low in respect. I was completely confused. Why was she bowing to me. I then felt myself get low to the man's face, hissing loudly. Then with one swift bite to the neck the job was done. I felt sick. I had killed a man, only it wasn't me. I was out of control.
Charlotte grabbed the man's leg and started dragging it. I followed, with a sense of pleasure. Or it was the monster's pleasure. I was still mortified that I had killed someone. What would Mae think? I tried to regain control but it was useless.
Soon we had reached town. Charlotte dropped the body and had what seemed to be a smile on her face. I felt the pleasure of the kill, I felt the pleasure of being respected, I felt the pleasure of being powerful. The monster loved it all. I hated every moment of it, or at least that's what I kept telling myself.

Mae's POV
It was Saturday morning and Dex still hadn't woken up. I didn't dare go in his room though. Even after we had returned from the Society of the Cat, as Dex called it, he kept his distance from me. I had a feeling that he was hiding something but it was probably him just not knowing how to act around me now. I didn't blame him.
Although this morning I had a different mission. I heard there was another murder last night. The body was bitten and clawed, which sounded like the work of werecats if you ask me. I put on my jacket and headed outside. The bitter October wind hit me, and I shivered. This was going to be a cold day.
When I arrived at the scene of the crime the area was covered with bright yellow police tape. I stepped under it nonchalantly and got closer to the body. A few officers looked at my curious but I flashed them a ID and they let me carry on. Oh, it's amazing what you can do with your printer at home.
The body was a nasty thing. Werecats never seemed to eat their victims, just leave them where they killed them and disappear into the night, occasionally dragging them into town. I figured that's what happened to this man. Cats were monsters that was for sure. On the inspection of the body I could see that there was more than one werecat here. Both weren't fully grown, most likely in high school, it must have been June and Kayla, probably.
There were no teeth or claws left in these bodies. Cats were careful like that. Leave to much evidence and people will flee afraid. Don't leave enough then your people won't be scared at all. You want them afraid, but not so afraid that they would flee your town. It's why they only attacked on the full moon, and mainly tourist or men.
I could also tell one of these werecats was clearly more powerful than the other. It was the minions job to put on a show, there bites and scratches weren't that deep. The leader normally finished the job. Having one or two really deep bite marks, that killed the person. I could tell mainly because the leader's bite, here was a different shape than the weaker one's.
I quickly finished my analysis, and left. I shook my head and went into a local cafe and ordered a hot chocolate. I hated it when cats killed, especially without reason. Which was most of the time. Their skin could only be penetrated by silver. A normal bullet wouldn't hurt them, it would piss them off though.
I sipped my chocolate gingerly and watched the leaves fall. I loved autumn. I was the best time of year. All the colors the leaves brought. I watched them continue to fall until I finished my chocolate. I got up and went to pay.
"Was the hot chocolate all you had dear?" Asked the lady behind the counter, Ms. Regan.
"Yes ma'am." I responded, politely.
As she punched buttons into the cash register she asked me, "So are you ready for Halloween?"
"Wait, is that today?" I asked, shocked.
"Yes dear. The whole town normally dresses up and goes to the Pumpkin Ball. You should really go, you spend too much time alone if you ask me. Get a boyfriend!" Ms. Regan said. I tried my best not to roll my eyes.
I just shook my head and said, "Ah, Ms. Regan. I don't need a boyfriend. I'll be fine." With that I ran out the door. I shook with fear. Halloween and a full moon? The town gathering up in one place? I had a feeling that my werecat friends might make an appearance.

AN:
Hullo guys! It turns out I didn't make very many mistakes, and I have less life than usual this weekend. So I'm posting this. I felt like the story needed it. I kind of like ending in cliff hangers or semi-cliff hangers, but I hate it when other stories do that. So I added this is. Remember to vote and comment! BYE!
