Mother of the Moon
The night of her murder-
I laid upon my hotel bed, too still. Waiting for the pain to turn to sleep. The doctors provided me with a prescription for anxiety and rest. I welcomed sleep, maybe a little to much.
I had taken all of them. 90 pills, one glass of water, hopefully my death sentence. I was in no place to lead a life once mine was shattered. I was weak. I begged to succumb to the darkness. I took the pussy way out, I will admit.
I closed my eyes, asked the gods for forgiveness and anxiously waited to see my mothers face. I would meet her again, much sooner than expected. I was ready to be reunited. Less than 18 hours after her death, I was already too far gone for rationality.
Death, in a way, did greet me. However, it had different plans.
***Persephone's POV***
I was called from my castle, to stand before the council. I knew the reason. I felt the light dimming, a soul on the brink of eternal sleep. Often, I was called for this purpose.
I greeted my panel with a pained smile. I did not relish in these assignments. They meant that a chosen one had succumbed to the lure of death.
Listening to the details of the victim was always the hardest. Hearing the source of their pain, brought their feelings to my mind. I felt their anguish, I heard their thoughts, I sacrificed my peace to understand. I did not judge. Humans were not created to know sorrow.
Darius Knight-18-Senior in high school. A chosen one. His light snuffed out at the hands of an intruder. His mother ripped from his world for greed, deprivation and violence.
I do not blame him, but I will do my best to save him.
I knew my task, and I would not fail. I was to offer immortality in exchange for his service. His sacrifice would not be made in vain.
A second chance at life, not the life he once had. A different world altogether, but a life still the same. He would be rewarded greatly. I prayed he would oblige. We needed him and he needed what I had to offer.
I left the meeting hall, steadied myself for my journey. I descended the Heaven's and entered his room. I breathed a sigh of relief, I was not too late. Moments ago, he chose to exit, stage right, this cruel world.
I would entice him to stay. An offer many can't refuse. A necessary exchange, once sin coated the world like a dark lava.
I stood above the beautiful boy, my heart ached for his pain. My tears glistened upon my shimmering alabaster skin. My cascade of platinum curls fell along the curve of my shoulders, ending below my tiny waist.
I lifted my delicate hands, and intertwined my fingers into his masculine ones. I smelled the salt of his grief, dried upon his olive skin. I leaned down, my soft pink lips directly above his thick deep red ones. I breathed in deeply.
His lips parted, his chest heaved forward. His body stiffened below my vortex. The pain killers he ingested, they tasted like the poison they were. I inhaled them thru his parted lips, taking their toxins into my form.
Once his body was released of death's weapon, I opened my mouth. I blew my breath into the air behind me, and the poison expelled into dancing particles of dust. It filled the air with fluttering butterflies and they flew away into the night.
My violet eyes glanced down upon my chosen one. Sleeping, none the wiser that his life would be no more. I placed my right hand on his forehead, my left rested upon his chest directly over his heart. I leaned into him and waited. My words of enchanted prayers, bringing peace to his ruptured soul.
His dull blue eyes fluttered open, his breath coming in steady waves. He sighed deeply. My smile grew to reach my eyes. He moved slowly to sit up. I assisted and backed away.
Watching, waiting for the questions. I stayed rooted in front of my angel. He would serve us well.
"Where am I?" Darius questioned.
"A hotel" I smirked.
"Who are you?" He dead panned.
"Persephone - Moon Goddess" I responded.
He didn't seem affected. I giggled at his steel expression.
"Do you have anymore questions, sweet Darius?" I asked.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
A simple question, to a human.
"What do you remember?" I started.
"My angel, my mother, she's gone" he whimpered.
"I just want the pain to end!" He stated.
I knelt in front of him, my knees folded behind me, my head bowed before my subject. I placed my hands in his and looked into orbs of blue vastness.
I whispered "I cannot take your pain. I wish I could. I cannot bring your mother back. I would love to give that gift to you."
He rubbed soothing circles upon my hands and silently the tears fell. I could feel his heart weeping. I could hear him thinking he wished he could take away MY sorrow.
I began trembling at the heart before me. My body betraying my shock. Oh my chosen child, a heart of gold. I would reward his purity. But first, I must beg his sacrifice. I already knew he would accept.
"Darius Knight, you chose to take your life. I am not here to scorn you. I understand your decision." I began.
He looked at me with guilt laced eyes. Shame seeped upon his stunning features.
I lifted his chin to meet my eyes directly.
"I am here to ask a favor of you. An eternal contract. One you should not enter into lightly. We need your help, my sweet angel." I said
"What contract? Who needs help from the likes of me?" He questioned sarcastically.
"The gods and goddesses of this universe. We need you." I spoke.
He looked upon my face and I could see he was taking in my features. No lust, no desire, but he was in awe. I knew my crown of white roses were captivating him. I knew he was being pulled in by my beauty both inside and out.
It was no mistake, as a goddess, we were stunning. We were carved to perfection to create allure. The task we faced were softened by the blinding beauty we held. But, this beauty helped to filter the pure from the wicked. Reading their thoughts and feeling their emotions lead us to the perfect subjects.
He was perfection. His mother had done no disservice. My angel, was a pure as the undriven snow. My heart swelled at the beauty of his spirit. He would make us proud.
"Please explain" he begged.
"I offer you a retribution of sorts. In exchange for your sacrifice, I will give you: immortality, strength, friendship, guidance, and power." I offered.
My sweet angel was not without questions. And I appreciated that immensely. For if he had jumped at my offer without details, I would know he couldn't be entrusted.
"What is my sacrifice, what type of retribution?" He asked.
"You trade your human body for that of an immortal. You will be given a set of rules. You will sacrifice your service to the greater good of the universe." I continued.
"I will bless you with all I have offered. Immortality, you will always live, not without pain, but without fear of death. Strength as a supernatural, you will be stronger than the enemies you face. What you lack physically against some, you will make up in will power and faith. Friendship will be eternal, as I will impart you with a wolf. Inside of you, he will guide you as a companion, protector and friend. You will hold the power of punishment. You will decimate thousands over centuries, eradicating evil thru your service."
He looked mystified. Perplexed features set upon his beautiful face. I heard his intake of breath and the weight of my offer settle into his soul. I could not bring myself to feel bad, we needed him.
"I will do it, this world holds no value. I will be your chosen one." He spoke.
"Are you sure? You may never find a wife, you may never bear children? You might, but I am not offering this as my promise. This is a heavy burden to bear and loneliness can be worse than death." I explained.
"I have no will to live. So, I would not have these things either way. I wanted to live for love. But, that has been shoplifted from me. Death would not suffice, I would die in vain. I need to be valuable. I need to vindicate my mother's sacrifice. I will make a sacrifice of my own." He stated.
I proudly stood before him and lifted him to his feet. My arms wrapped around his firm form. I thanked him before I began.
"This will not be a physically painful transformation. For others it is. But, in exchange for your acceptance of my contract, I will spare you the pain. You have been thru enough. I will give you your wolf and then we will head to the spiritual realm to begin your training. It will be as long or short as necessary for you to be comfortable with your tasks. You will eventually return to earth, as a punisher of evil. You will have access to myself and others as needed. You will not be alone. We will steadily guide you." I stated.
"If you do not mind, please kneel before me. I will now bind your soul to your wolf. At the end of your training you will be granted the title of the first ever Werewolf King. You will be given great riches and power that will grow as your service develops. You can not fail. You must always choose duty above self. Do you understand?" I questioned.
"Yes. I am ready." He whispered.
My handsome angel slowly knelt before me. I knew he would never take this stance again. He would rise to power and others would kneel before him for eternity. His life would be our salvation. I couldn't be more proud.
With that I began. "Vindex procedent ligat animam in hoc ens non waiver stregnth. Duce spiritu tenere manibus immundis mortem inducit." (Punisher come forth, bind your soul to this being and do not waiver in your strength. Hold fast to his spirit and guide his hands as he brings forth death to the unclean.)
Darius body curled in on itself. His arms swelled with muscles, rippling down to his feet. His 6'5" frame filled with the power of his wolf "Ultor". His light radiated like the glistening sun kissing his olive skin. His hair lightened a shade from deep chocolate to a shimmer of honey softening his tone. His back darkened with the appearance of his sword of protection that stained his skin like a tattoo. The large hilt spreading the width of his shoulder blades and the blade running on either side of his spine.
He lifted his hulking figure from the ground and towered above me like the gentle giant angel he was. His eyes sparkled like an iridescent garden globe, easily changing to colors of indigo, periwinkle and silver. He was a magnificent specimen that radiated power. My breath caught at the sight of his transformation. A smile burst thru my skin as his beauty held me captive. I was entranced in my angel. The protector, the punisher!
