Chapter 4
Jane looked at the ghost dead in the eye. Neither one dared to blink. Minutes later, the ghost spoke. "Hello." Jane waved. She had no idea what to say. "I'm The Wayward Phantom," she continued. Jane nodded. There was a long, uncomfortable silence. "Um, sorry to intrude on you..." Jane said, looking at something by her side. "No really, it's alright. It's been awhile since I've had company," Phantom said, barely above a breath. "Actually, I was wondering if you would stay for a bit. So we could chat? I have the feeling I have a bit to catch up on." Jane, once again, only managed a nod. The ghost's expression didn't change, but her eyes shined slightly brighter. Jane assumed this meant she was happy. She sat down. "So..." she began. "What exactly do you want to hear about?" The ghost thought for a minute. "Who is the new Dominant?" she asked after a few seconds. Jane gave her a puzzled look. The ghost might have rolled her eyes, but it was hard to tell, seeing as she didn't have pupils. "Who's the one living with you?" she said, sounding slightly annoyed. "Oh! There's the Mistress-" "Knew it," the ghost said, glowering out the window. "-And Unworthy." Phantom's head whipped around so fast, it surely would have broken, had she had bones. "There are two?!" she shouted. Jane was extremely scared. She didn't know how to respond. Phantom ran her hands through her short hair. She was muttering, and her white eyes were wide as saucers. Jane spoke in a squeak. "Why is that such a big deal?" Her comment went ignored. "The other one... She isn't a slave by any chance, is she?" The ghost was flying around, pulling books out of the bookcase on the wall. "A-a henchman, yes..." Jane was beyond terrified. Phantom was worse. She was screaming, throwing books across the room. "Come back later!" she yelled at Jane. She ran out at full speed and slammed the door behind her. She then proceeded to run to her room, flop down on the bed, and wonder what exactly had just happened. Just then, there was a knock on her door. "I brought cookies!" Unworthy said through the door. "Come on in," Jane said monotonously. As usual, Unworthy was beaming. She did, indeed, have cookies. "What's wrong? You look as if you've seen a ghost!" Unworthy said before erupting into laughter. Jane didn't find it very funny. She let Unworthy know this, but she paid no mind and continued with her ridiculous, terrified, hysterical laughter.
