CHAPTER 5 - LADY OF THE SKY KINGDOM

"What an eventful life you have," Ember said. "But I'm so happy for you! Being the Lady of the Sky Kingdom? That's more than I can ever do." Ember forced a laugh. "I'm far from being the Lord of the Fire Realm, but then again I guess I don't mind."

Breeze shyly glanced at him.

"Do you mind if I spend the night here?" In the distance, the sun was starting to set and the four moons, each representing one tribe - water, sky, earth, fire - were rising.

"No, no, it's alright. I haven't even gone into the bedroom. I sleep out here. Might burn other stuff." Ember smiled a warm smile. Breeze collapsed onto the couch.

"Well, why not a midnight feast? We can raid Gale's kitchen. Today's my last day of freedom, perhaps. I want to make it last." The mischievous grin on Ember's face said it all. "Let's do it."

"Quick. Come on. It's six a.m." Ember shook Breeze awake.

"Come on. Lady Moon is going to wake up at any moment. I've already asked Wind to clean our mess and not tell anyone. In payment, I gave him two bags of shrew flavoured crisps." Breeze stirred awake, before mumbling a sleepy,

"Hm?" and taking everything into consideration. "Oh. Okay, okay, chill. I'm up."

Suddenly Wind exploded inside Ember's room. "Lady Moon's up. Meet at Sky Hall of Forgiveness. She's starting any minute."

Ember nodded thanks to Wind before he and Breeze flew the way to the Sky Hall.

"Citizens of the Sky Kingdom!" she yowled. Breeze looked around to see that every single Sky Element had gathered in the Sky Hall. Lady Moon, seeing Ember and Breeze, added uneasily,

"and our honoured Fire Element guest, Ember. We gather here to announce that my reign of Lady... is over."

Gasps crowded the Sky Hall.

"My new heir, who will be your new lady right now, is..." "Me!" Everyone turned to see the grand doors of the Sky Hall thrown open, and a new Sky Element entered.

"Who is she?" Ember whispered. "Flutter." Breeze answered grimly. "She's very spoiled. Look at her, not a wound on her precious fur." Ember looked at Breeze. On her nose, a small gash was slashed across. "Excuse you?" Lady Moon's voice was quiet yet dangerous.

"What are you doing?"

"Eh em, it should be excuse you! I am now Lady Flutter, your new-"

"No."

Lady Moon hissed. "You will never claim the throne of the Sky Kingdom. The only way is to challenge the new Lady. But of course you'd lose. Why? Because you're nothing but a spoiled, idiotic Sky Element! Your new ruler is Lady Breeze!"

Every pair of eyes turned to Breeze, but she could only feel one. A hot, angry glare. Flutters'.

"Lady Breeze," Flutter growled. "I challenge you for the throne of the Sky Kingdom."

Gasps spread through the gathered crowd. No one had been challenged on the first day of their leadership, nevertheless, the first minute. Breeze stood up, puffing out her chest.

"I accept your challenge," she said. "But let's bring the duel to the hills underneath the Sky Kingdom."

With that, Breeze leapt into the sky and spiralled down gracefully, Flutter following along with the rest of the Sky Elements. It seemed as if all the snow in the world only fell down in one place, with a single red snowflake.

"Well," Breeze said after she and her opponent had gotten into position. "Why don't you get the first bl-" Before Breeze had finished speaking, Flutter launched herself at Breeze, claws extended.

Breeze nimbly dodged to the side. Game on, she thought.

As Flutter landed awkwardly in the place Breeze was a second ago, Breeze rushed in and delivered a few blows before leaping back again. Flutter hissed in annoyance, then lunged at Breeze again. This time, however, Flutter learned her lesson and predicted Breeze's next move, pinning the slightly smaller cat down. "Give up?" Flutter gloated.

"Never!" Breeze roared, kicking her hind legs at Flutter. "It's either you lose or I die," she hissed. Flutter snarled, waiting for Breeze to leap at her so she could use the same trick for her. However, Breeze would not be fooled. She leapt for Flutter, but instead aiming for her legs. Immediately, Flutter was knocked down, giving Breeze the perfect opportunity to pin her opponent. "I give up!" Flutter yowled. "You win, okay?"

Breeze backed away, triumph flooding through her fur. I won so easily. Now I'm Lady of the Sky Kingdom! Father would be so proud of me! As for Mother... Breeze stopped abruptly. Who was her mother? Gust had never mentioned his wife, nor had anyone else. Whatever, Breeze brushed off the thought. It's not like she cared what happened to her mother. Her mother never cared about her.

"Behold!" Elder Moon swept one wing around the gathered Sky Elements with Ember and a sulking Flutter, coughing a little.

"Your new Lady!" Cheers erupted throughout the crowd.
