--Basic Anthronids
Bestiary > Humanoids > Anthronids > Basic Anthronids
The "Basic" Anthronid, a name which itself shows a certain ethnocentrism, are the anthronids most like Humans in appearance. They all have two arms, two legs, have similar thoughts and feelings, walk upright and eat, drink, and live in similar ways. Perhaps from a cultural standpoint it is even more important that Basic Anthronids (unlike others, with the exception of some giants) all believe in an afterlife and consider themselves to have souls. In fact, scholars have suggested these races are related in some way in their distant past, although this idea has been soundly rejected on both cultural and religious basis by leaders of the various basic anthronid types themselves.
The most numerous basic Anthronids are, of course, humans, with Dwarves and Badwah coming in distant second and even more distant third. Although there are other humanoid types, such as Tilwen or some Planars, who may appear very like humans, the origins of these other humanoids is different enough that they are given their own categories.
Basic Anthronids:
- Badwah - A small, timid race of anthronids that once lived widely across West Terrok's plains and hilly countries. They dwell underground, but work the surface for their livelihoods like humans. Badwah are very stealthy, long used to hiding from goblinoids, even before human expansion. Unfortunately early humans mistrusted the secretive Badwah and hunted them almost to extinction across Terrok's central plains. They are still found in southwest Terrok, but have lately had trouble with a campaign of enslavement. Certain covert organizations of humans, with the aid of goblin muscle, have enslaved vast numbers of Badwah, and nearly wiped out their number in the war-torn All-home shires and around Calm Lake. Terrok's remaining free Badwah are mostly refugees in cities throughout the South, or living their very reclusive lives in Terrok's wildest places. Enslaved badwah are kept in Kaden, Migar, Karraway and Lintonopia where slavery is still legal and widely practiced. They do not do well in captivity, but function better as servants, maids and butlers than they do laborers.
- Dwarves - Basic anthronids growing an average of 16 hands tall, but very strong and clever-fingered for their size. They are great warriors and foes of goblinoid races, and have no problem living in mountainous and subterranean regions where goblins are a problem. Dwarves, like humans, aren't very magical, preferring instead to craft weapons and tools using radiance, rather than wielding magic as wizards.
- Humans - You might know a thing or two about humans, if you are human yourself. They are Terrok's most numerous, most versatile intelligent species, and dwell all across West Terrok, and in isolated settlements in East Terrok. They have also conquered all nearby coastal islands. They do not do well in high mountains or dark forests, nor in dangerous swamps or marshes where other humanoids are better adapted to harsh climates. Humans are longer-lived than most goblinoid races, but shorter lived than other basic anthronids and radiant types.
