I used to love werewolf stories once upon a time. But then I realized a terrible pattern in most of them and came to fear this genre even though it probably still has some great books I've yet to discover. Do you know what this pattern is?

It's abuse. Werewolf stories are full of possessive, sex-hungry ravenous beast-type-males who make it seem like the world is completely devoid of normal, gentle mannered guys (who are 100% husband materials by the way. Are any of you reading this? Call me? 😭)

Summary:

He slammed me against the car and growled. "You're mine."

I whimpered as he trailed kisses down my jaw. "Please, let me go."

Another growl, another punch. "Mine."

How it goes:

Just a normal day, the female MC is just taking a stroll through her school like every normal teenager out there, and then the guy just magically appears out of the air.

"Who-who-who are you?" She stutters, because God forbid a MC who actually knows how to speak.

"Your mate." He says, before pouncing onto her and biting her neck. "Mmhm, you smell so good."

(I tell that to my burger 🍔....Now I'm hungry)

"Ohh, my m-m-m-mate." She closes her eyes and sighs in delight. "I don't know what the hell it means, but whatever, I love you though."

Also, in 7 out of 10 stories, the girl ends up pregnant. It's like a bad Jacob Black fan fiction but without Jacob Black (Probably the only character I liked from Twilight. The book, by the way. The book wasn't a masterpiece, but the movie was terrible. And I hear it's getting a sequel? Whaaat? I loved Robert Pattinson in Goblet Of Fire, is he not getting any work or what?)

Anyways, listen, I can't speak for the majority of the audience on Wattpad, but I don't think this counts as love -- but rather, it's borderline abuse. It teaches young girls that they only need to sit around, act helpless and some handsome all-rounder guy would just magically pop out of nowhere. It also teaches them that it's okay for your partner to abuse you emotionally and physically, that it's okay if someone constantly threatens your life, your freedom and everything else that makes you you as long as they whisper how beautiful you are at night? Is it okay? Really?

No. No matter what gender you are, or what gender your partner is, or what kind of relationship you are in (friends, lovers, friends-with-benefits, co-workers) it's never okay for someone to break you down or tie you up; unless it's for something kinky and you're into that shit. Don't worry, I won't judge as long as you lend me a blindfold too ;)

....and now I've ruined the moment. Ugh.
