Y/n's pov

"It's not getting away from me this time," My twin brother, Sokka, announces while trying to catch a fish.

"Watch and learn, ladies. This is how you catch a fish."

Me and my little sister, Katara, weren't really paying any attention to what he was doing though. I watched as my sister removed her glove and held her hand towards the water. She took a deep breath, as she focused on the water, creating wavy motions and creating a bubble of water that surrounded a fish inside it.

She looks at me with excitement in her eyes. She bends the bubble into the air. "Sokka, look!" my sister says, trying to catch his attention.

"Sshh! Katara, you're going to scare it away," Sokka says, ignoring Katara entirely. "Mmmm . . . I can already smell it cookin'."

While Sokka was still concentrating on catching the fish, Katara was still bending the water bubble into the air, focusing on the water bubble. "But, Sokka! I caught one!"

I focused on the water surrounding the boat. Lifting my arms and and started moving my hands in a wavy motion, copying the movent Katara was doing, also creating a water ball.

Yes, I'm also a waterbender, the last one in the Southern water tribe along with my sister Katara. The Fire Nation did a number of raids on the water tribe, either enslaving or killing the waterbenders. Our mom was one of those victims, leaving a toll on all of us, especially Katara and Me. That moment still haunts me to the core. Since we were the only ones here with these special abilities, we would try to learn how to bend any time we can.

I face Katara while bending the bubble over the edge of the boat. She sees the bubble and gives me a smile.

Katara started to struggle to keep the water in the air. She slowly moves the water towards my brother, who still didn't know about Katara bending the water bubble. As Katara lifted the bubble over his head, Sokka lifts his spear to strike the fish, and unknowingly pops the bubble causing Katara losing control of it. The water pours down on Sokka, soaking him.

I covered my mouth and began to laugh and lost control of my bubble, with also poured down on Sokka's head and he gasps in discomfort. "Hey" my sister exclaims while staring Sokka down.

"Why is it that every time you two play with magic water I get soaked?" Sokka says clenching his fists with water droplets fell from his hair.

"It's not 'magic', it's waterbending." I tell him slightly annoyed. "And it's-" Katara began to add before getting interrupted by Sokka.

"Yeah, yeah, 'an ancient art unique to our culture', blah, blah, blah. Look, I'm just saying, that if I had weird powers, I'd keep my weirdness to myself." He says while wringing the water out of his warrior's wolf knot.

"You're calling us weird" I stated while crossing my arms. "At least we're not the ones making muscles at ourselves everytime we see our reflections in the water!" Katara stated while smiling smugly at Sokka while he flexes at his reflection in the water. Before he could say anything, the canoe suddenly shudders. While we try to keep from falling over, Sokka whirls around towards his end of the canoe with a frantic look on his face.

I move up the canoe only to see that we were in a rapid current, which was pulling us towards a jumble of large icebergs which blocked the end of the narrow passage formed by the towering walls of ice. Me and Sokka rush to get the paddles, attempting to stay clear of any of the ice chunks. We luckily manage to gain enough speed to keep the boat from being crushed by two icebergs which slam together behind the boat.

The canoe was moving through the water as me and Sokka rows furiously as the canoe was nearly pinned by a number of smaller chunks of ice. "Watch out! Go left! Go left!" Katara yelled out. "What does it look like we're trying to do!" Me and Sokka yelled back as we focused on the path of the canoe.

We luckily managed to stay clear of some of the icebergs, but the canoe veers to the right with the current and gets pinned by three large chunks of ice. As the canoe is completely crushed by the ice, we throw ourselves from the canoe and onto one of the floes.

Katara, shuffling on her hands and knees, moves away from the rim toward the middle of the floe, sitting next to me and Sokka.

"You call that left?" Katara spat at us with a touch of bitterness in her voice.

"You don't like my steering? Well, maybe you two should've waterbended us out of the ice." Sokka says while mockingly imitating waterbending.

"So it's our fault?" Katara responds while standing up again and facing our brother. I turn my head, facing Sokka while raising an eyebrow.

"I knew I should of left you two home! Leave it to the girls to screw things up!"

"EXCUSE ME!" I yell while getting up and staring my twin down. I turn to Katara who had fury on her face. She points accusingly at our brother, who makes no movement as she screams her disgust at him.

"You are the most sexist, immature, nut brained . . ."

I mean, she wasn't wrong about that. He is a pain in the butt. I then began to notice the flow bobbing lightly up and down.

"I'm embarrassed to be related to you!"

I began to notice while Katara was yelling at Sokka, she moved her arms up and down which was causing her to unconsciously waterbend hurls a wave directly into the towering iceberg behind her.

Sokka, who at first had a disinterested expression on his face, glanced briefly in Katara's direction and look back at me, as we both had a look of terror on our faces due to the realization of the situation that was unfolding.

"Ever since mom died, me and Y/n have been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier!" She emphasizes the last words with a strong swing of her hand, waterbending and deepening the crack in the iceberg.

"Uh . . . Katara . . ."Sokka spoke while pointing at the iceberg behind her with fear in his voice.

"Katara, mabye you should calm down a little . ." I state trying to calm her down, but I failed miserably.

"No, Y/n. I even have to wash all the clothes! Have you ever smelled his dirty socks? Let me tell you, not pleasant!" Katara yells out while she causes two new splits in the ice chunk.

"Katara, settle down!" Sokka screeched with fear in his eyes.

"No that's it! I'm done helping you! From now on, you're on your own!"
Her last movement was her most agitated and it creates a huge wave which, when it impacts the iceberg, that sends a number of cracks up the iceberg. One of them ends up reaching the top of the iceberg, splitting it in half.

Petrified, me and Sokka gasps for air. Katara, now noticing what she had done also gasps.

The two halves of the iceberg began to fall away from each other causing us to see between the two. The halves fall into the water, creating a larger wave than any Katara had unknowingly cast towards the iceberg that was now radiating outwards towards us.

Sokka threw his arms around me and Katara as the floe pushed back. Once the wave subsided, me and Sokka turned our heads towards Katara as Sokka removes his arms away from us.

"Okay, you've gone from 'weird' to 'freakish'," Sokka announces aloud.

"You mean I did that?" Katara breathes with an astonished look on her face while facing what the iceberg used to be.

"Yeah . . ." I muttered impressed by my sister's abilities.

"Congratulations," Sokka says sarcastically.

Small bubbles appeared on the surface of the water directly in front of us and a small spot of water in front of us began to glow with a bright bluish hue. The light began to spread and the three of us scrambled away from the edge in terror. The iceberg rised showing it to be the source of the blue glow.

Mesmerized by the iceberg, I walked closer to it with Katara flowing me.
We stare at the iceberg, as it revealed a human shape within it. As I looked closer, a noticed and saw that it was a BOY! He was perched in lotus and had glowing arrows on his head and hands. I notice Katara raise her eyebrow in confusion.

Suddenly, the boy opens his eyes, the same brilliant light emanating from us, eliciting shocked gasps from all three of us

"He's alive! We have to help!" Katara states. She grabs Sokka's club and runs to the iceberg .

"Katara, get back here!" Sokka says while we run after her. "We don't know what that thing is!" He calls out as he grabs his own spear from the ice and runs after her, who was already at the ice's edge.

Katara ignored us as she hops across the short distance between her floe and the iceberg on some tiny ice chinks. Me and Sokka, who were close behind, did the same.

Reaching the iceberg first, Katara repeatedly striked the iceberg with Sokka's club. I grab my brother's spear and do the same. On our fifth strike, the club and spear break through the surface and a great gust of wind that escaped from inside the iceberg, throw the three of us back from the side of the dome. Fissure quickly snake their way over the whole iceberg. In a massive outward explosion, the entire orb of ice destroys itself

A beam of light bursts from the core of the iceberg and rockets into the sky. I look in awe at the lights.

Sokka protectively clutched me and Katara. He releases us as he looks around. Light still encircles the remains of the former mountain of ice that was now reduced to a hollowed-out crater. Sokka looks at us as we all get to our feet with Katara holding Sokka. He grabs his spear from the ground and points it at crater, ready to defend us. He lowers it as he sees a figure slowly emerging from the depression of the iceberg. Sokka bandish his spear to defend us once again shouting the words, "Stop!".

But, I continued my gaze as the figure slowly erected himself and looked down at us. We all stared back in both wonder and fear.

The circle of light finally dissipate as the mysterious boy stopped glowing.
The figure ended up revealing it to be nothing more than a young boy. He moaned in exhaustion and fainted.

My sister gasped and ran forwards to catch him before he hit the ground.

Me and Sokka followed behind and Sokka started to poke the boy's head with the blunt end of his spear. I wave his spear wave, "Stop it!" I scolded at him annoyed. Katara placed the boy gently against the base of the crater.

He slowly began to open his gray eyes. Staring at Katara, he asks her in a weak voice, "I need to ask you something . . ."

"What?"

"Please . . .come closer."

"What is it?" she asked curiously.

"Will you go penguin sledding with me?" he asks in a happy, hopeful tone.

"Uh, sure . . .I-I guess" Katara responses awkwardly.

The boy elegantly rises to his feet in one swift motion, surprising the three of us. Me and Katara looked at him in awe while Sokka backed away in shock, aiming his spear at him again.

The boy looks around while rubbing his head. "What's going on here?" he asked while Katara scrambles to his feet.

"You tell us!" Sokka says aggressively. "How did you get in the ice? And why aren't you frozen" he asks while poking the boy in his side with his spear.

"I'm not sure." the boy responds while pushing the spear away.

Suddenly, we hear a low, gruff noise, coming from within the crater that filled the air. The boy scrambled up the ridge of the ice and happily jumps on the head of a large, furry creature, with an arrow-shaped marking that matched the boy's.

"Appa! Are you all right? Wake up, buddy" the boy exclaims happily.
The creature then licks the boy with his giant tongue as the we see it appear around the corner. I walk towards Appa, petting his fur.

"Well, aren't you adorable." I exclaimed cheerfully.

"Ha, ha! You're okay!" the boy laughed cheerfully, hugging the Appa's nose.

"What is that thing?" Sokka shouted while pointing at Appa.

"This is Appa, my flying bison."

"Right, and this is Katara and Y/n, my flying sisters." Sokka says sarcastically.

The boy looks questioningly at Sokka for a moment, but his attention is diverted back toward his bison when Appa starts to inhale deeply. He ducks as Appa sneezes, sending a large blast of green snot flying directly onto Sokka, who became covered in it.

Gross

I watch as my brother squeals in disgust and began to frantically try clean it off by rubbing his face in the snow.

"Don't worry, it'll wash out." the boy says cheerfully while staring at Sokka, who had green snot hanging from his face to his glove, dripping down as he retracted his hand. Katara covered her mouth in disgust.

"So do you guys live around here?"

"We-"I began to answer him until Sokka interrupts

"Don't answer that! Did you see that crazy bolt of light?! He was probably trying to signal the Fire Navy!" Sokka says while pointing his spear accusingly again at the boy.

Katara pushes the spear away. "Oh yeah, I'm sure he's a spy for the Fire Navy. You can tell by that evil look in his eye." she addresses sarcastically.

The boy shoots us an earnest grin.

"The paranoid one is our brother, Sokka. You never told us your name" I told the boy.

"I'm A . . .a-a-a-Achoo!" The boy sneezes, creating a air blast which causes him to go soaring into the air. He lands back on the ground, unharmed, which surprises me. "I'm Aang." he sniffles.

"You just sneezed...and flew ten feet in the air!" Sokka says in disbelief while pointing up to the sky.

Aang looks questioningly towards the sky. "Really? It felt higher than that."

My sister gasps. "You're an airbender!"

"Sure am!"

I was in disbelief. Weren't airbenders practically extinct? Could he be the avatar? Could the war finally end?

"Giant light beams, flying bison, airbenders . . .I think I got midnight sun madness. I'm going home where things make sense." Sokka says while walking away. He comes to a stop. I walk over to him to see that me were stranded in the middle of the ocean with no way back home.

"Well, if you guys are stuck, Appa and I can give you a ride." Aang offers as he airbends himself onto Appa

"We'd love a ride! Thanks!" Katara thanks Aang as the both of us run to the side of the bison and climb onto him.

"Oh no! I'm not getting on that fluffy snot monster!" Sokka uttered while crossing his arms.

"A, Appa's not a snot monster and B, are you hoping some other kind of monster will come along and give you a ride home? You know, before you freeze to death?" I sassed.

Sokka opened his mouth, ready to say something but simply sighed and bows his head in defeat as he climbs onto Appa.

"Okay, first-time flyers, hold on tight! Appa, yip-yip!" Aang instructed though, the bison didn't ascend up into the air.

"Wow, that was truly amazing . . ." my brother says sarcastically.

Katara shoots him an angry glance.
"Appa's just a little tired" Aang announced, steering the bison through the water. "A little rest and he'll be soaring through the sky. You'll see."

Katara smiles at the young airbender, who smiled back. When she wanted to move back though, she realized that he was still smiling at her, weirdly.

"Why are you smiling at me like that?" Katara says with an uneasy look on her face.

"Oh, I was smiling?"

I grinned. Looks like somebody's got a crush.
