Swan X Reader - Part 22 (You're The Last Of An Ancient Breed)
Time Skips 5 Hours.
It was now the proper morning, just gone 7am and the sunlight was starting to steadily crack through your bedroom window. As the light hit your face, it woke you and Swan seconds apart from each other and you gave out a big stretch to adjust yourself to the morning you rarely saw.
Swan let out a stretch and yawn too and gazed his head towards you as he placed his hand on your thigh.
"Morning." You said and kept your head on your pillow. "Mornin'... How're you feeling?" Swan replied and sat up with another yawn. "Good, just a bit sore and feeling some pulled muscles, but better. What about you?" You responded and returned the question as you also sat up, dangling your legs over the bed.
"I think you know." Swan raised an eyebrow at you with a casual look. "Really?.. You're horny?" You guessed. "Not nessicarly." Swan corrected you. "Then what's up?" You thought, not being too sure where this conversation was going.
"When you woke up in the middle of the night. That's what's up." Swan explained as he confronted you. "You were awake." You stated. "Half awake, but that's beside the..." Swan corrected you. "So you actually love me?" You cutely asked and accidentally cut him off. "Yeah." Swan quietly commented with a small nod. "A-and you actually meant it at the beach? Yesterday when you said..." You reminded Swan as you remembered him saying a reason why he loved you. "Did I stutter?" Swan smirked knowing what quote you were referring to.
Your heartbeat picked up and your mind was riddled. You couldn't believe it. You were getting the words you desired for so long from Swan and he was saying it to your face. From the look on his face and softer masculine tone, you could tell that he was just as nervous as you. You smiled with your teeth showing and leaped over Swan with excitement to press a kiss on his lips. As you kissed Swan, you made sure you didn't catch the cut he had on his bottom lip, but you did make sure to melt in his arms. Swan laid back across the bed and pulled you with him so you hovered above him keeping the kiss. Swan rested a hand on your back and used the other to keep your hair behind your ear.
"I love you too." You pulled away from the kiss and rested your forehead on Swan's.
The pair of you embarrassed each other for a couple of seconds and Swan's tight hug made you feel the love and sweetness you had always wanted. The desire and affection you had with Swan had never felt like this before. It was like a new feeling that was longing to be unlocked and it was truly yours. Swan sat both of you up and slowly pulled away from the cuddle as you exhaled at Swan's sweet actions.
"I'm proud of you." Swan added with a little smile. "What for?" You quizzed and stood by beside your bed. "Getting your revenge. He got what he deserved and you got your justice." Swan answered and searched around your room for something to wear. "I wouldn't have done it without you. You've done so much for me Swan and I don't know how I'll be able to repay you." Swan explained and walked around the bed to his side. "You don't have to." Swan shook his head and found an old white T-Shirt he decided to slip on under his Warrior's vest.
"I owe you so much, you've saved me countless times and you have changed for the greater good... If it wasn't for you... I would either be a crack whore on the sidewalk or an overdosed corpse in the ocean." You sighed rolling your eyes and looking out the window at the grounds of Coney Island.
"You've done the same to me. You've changed me and haven't even realized." Swan tapped your shoulders and gently massaged them. "Seriously?" You looked up and over your shoulder at Swan.
"The first time we met wasn't when you came crawling on Destroyer's territory in the middle of that overdose. It was a while before that. You crashed the hearse into our stores that paid us protection money. The day you did that, was the day we met. You laughed in mine and Cleon's face and Luther was pressuring you on your shoulder the whole time." Swan unfolded which all made sense to you now. "So you felt sorry for me since then?" You quired and enjoyed the shoulder massage. "Deep down, yes. I didn't say anything to the others because they wanted to waste you instead. Then when we met again for the second time, which was your overdose, it was clear to all of us that you were someone else. We helped you, gave you a chance and you proved yourself because you were honest, desperate, intelligent and strong." Swan continued telling a part of the old story that you hadn't heard before. "So I'm guessing you were never that kind or understanding before you met me?" You shook your head and held onto Swan's arms that cuddled around you. "I was a nasty piece of work. Imagine Ajax, but ten times worse." Swan scoffed remembering how much of an asshole he used to be. "NO! You weren't?" You flicked your head up in shock since you couldn't imagine Swan being that much of a dick. "Yeah, I was mean, angry at the world, violent, an alcoholic, a flash addict. I picked fights I couldn't win with my own crew. I slept around multiple times a week. When I started hanging around with you every day, that's when I realized that I was warming up. You softened me and made me a more understanding person. Because you quit flash, I quit flash. Because you smoked a lot less, I smoked a lot less. Because you rarely drink, I only drink when you do." Swan listed as he carried on the conversation that opened so many new topics about Swan.
"It's another reason why I saw straight through Luther yesterday. When he tried tricking me into thinking that you had switched back to his gang, I knew it was for show." Swan commented and rested his chin on the top of your head. "I told him that wouldn't work either." You laughed a little and puffed your cheeks out. "See. You know me too well." Swan kissed your cheek and went to search for his boots.
"So what now?" You turned around to Swan. "All I want is for you to stay with me." Swan spoke as he sat on the edge of the bed slipping his boots on. "...Is this your way of asking me to be yours?" You flustered yourself and folded your arms biting your lip. "Well... What's your plan on leaving The Warriors looking like?" Swan stood up and walked over to you. "In all honesty. I'm ready to give it up. I want to move on." You slowly inhaled and let out a shaky exhale. "Alright then, let's go." Swan nodded and came to terms with your decision.
The pair of you left your bedroom and made your way downstairs to the main hangout area in the Hideout. The radio was playing Last Of An Ancient Breed by Desmond Child and it made you feel a little emotional. It was like someone beside Swan knew that this was the end of your gang life.
On the plus side, a few Warriors were awake and enjoying their morning. Cowboy was watching Vermin trying to beat the new high score on the Pinball machine. Rembrandt was watching the news on the TV. Snow and Cochise were still asleep. Then your old pal D-Train had a little something for you.
"Hey Girl, you needing a new vest? I got you covered." D-Train grinned and held out a fresh Warriors vest for you in your size. "For fuck sake, D-Train. Don't make this harder than it has to be." You sniffed and wiped away the single tear that dripped from your stitches. "What? What're you talkin' about?" D-Train froze thinking he'd done something majorly wrong.
"Wait... What's happening?" Cowboy spun around to you, Swan and D-Train getting a little concerned at the sound of you. "Fuck! You distracted me, Cowboy." Vermin slapped the side of the machine as Cowboy scurried over to you. "Shut up, something's happening." Cowboy slapped Vermin and paid his attention to you.
"(Y-N), are you ok?" Rembrandt stood up and joined in to make sure you were ok.
Swan took a step back from you and allowed you to deal with your friends however you pleased. You never expected to get this emotional and worked up over a street family, but they were still family. Almost every Warrior took care of you and everyone had a purpose to you. You may not have remembered every name and soldier you came across, but all Warriors served and respected Cleon when he was alive; that was enough for you to appreciate another comrade.
"Sorry, Big Guy, but I'm done." You sighed and controlled your breathing turning the new colours down. "What'd you mean? I don't get it?" Vermin spoke not understanding what you was trying to say. "I'm going." You sighed. "You're quitting The Warriors?" Cowboy specifically questioned in shock and peeked at Swan who was leaning on the wall with his arms folded behind you.
"This life ain't for me anymore, Cowboy. I've had too much danger in my life and it's almost killed me several times. I just want to start over. Maybe travel... Who knows? I might even return in a few years." You shortly explained to your remaining friends as they were going to be saying their farewells shortly.
"I mean, if that's what you really want, (Y-N)? I can respect your views on that." Rembrandt understood and respected your choice. "You remember any advice that I told you, Rembrandt?" You smiled and put a hand on his shoulder. "Spray paint can be used as a weapon." Rembrandt joked as that was one of the last pieces of advice you gave him. "You got it." You bobbed your head at him.
"Vermin. There's nothing I'm gonna miss more than you walking in on Swan and I going at each other like rabbits." You turned to Vermin with your comedic goodbye. "Someone had to take one for the team." Vermin raised his shoulders with a chuckle.
"D-Train. We both know you should have been there at The Bronx, keep on boppin'." You told the bigger guy since you got along with this heavy muscle. "You too, Soldier." D-Train saluted you.
"Cowboy, you have been a great friend to me. You and Swan helped me when I was at my lowest and if he wasn't there for me. I knew you would be." You warmly mentioned to Cowboy as you pointed to Swan behind you. "I actually can't believe that you're going." Cowboy nervously spat out and brought you in for a hug. "If you ever bust Ajax out of jail, tell him that I gave you this before I left." You gave Cowboy a friendly kiss on the cheek as a way of saying thank you. "I'll over-exaggerate on the details to make him extra jealous." Cowboy joked and took the cheek kiss maturely.
"Swan?" You turned back to Swan who was still leaning on the wall waiting for you.
You headed for the door that would take you out to Coney Island and Swan followed right behind you not saying a word. With the way Swan kept quiet and followed a few steps behind, you thought that he was gonna stay. Swan held the door open for you and you stood on the Hangout's balcony taking one last glimpse inside before you started a new life.
Swan also did the same and yearned at the inside of the Hangout. Swan took his Warriors colours off and took one last look at Cleon's design. Rembrandt, Vermin, D-Train and Cowboy were all struck at Swan taking his vest off. They knew what was coming, but they couldn't believe it.
"Cowboy... Here." Swan tossed Cowboy his Warrior's vest, handing him down the role of Warlord. "What?" Cowboy shook his head in disbelief as he caught the vest. "You're one of the best lieutenants a Destroyer and Warrior could need. You deserve Warlord." Swan complimented and stepped outside with you keeping the door open. "You're seriously going too?" Cowboy questioned in bafflement. "Everyone knows that I've been wanting to leave for ages, I've just never had the reason to, until now." Swan stood by your side and placed an arm around your waist. "I'm happy for you, Man. Good luck out there, you two." Vermin clapped his hands together feeling pleased for you both. "Just one last thing... Make sure you bust Ajax out. Maybe it's not fair to keep him locked in that cell." Swan added before he stumbled off with you. "You got it, Man. Seize this moment in your hand." Cowboy tipped his hat and accepted the role of Warlord of The Warriors.
"Thank you for everything, guys." You smiled properly for the first in a long time and blew a kiss to The Warriors who watched you and Swan leave out into the rest of the world.
You and Swan headed for the beach and took your adventure from there. Now you felt like you could finally be happy with a loving boyfriend and be safe from all of the chaos. After all, you deserved it and you wanted life to get better for you and Swan.
The pair of you continued to walk down the warm sandy beach hand in hand, until Swan changed his attitude and playfully picked you up bridal style. You cheerfully screamed and held your arms around Swan's neck giving your boyfriend a sweet kiss as he continued to carry you with a proper smile coming from his natural self.
"LOVE IS A FIRE, SWAN! ENJOY IT!" Cowboy yelled out to Swan.
Swan put you back on the ground and walked backwards for a second as he raised his arm in the air as a sign of respect to his fellow Warriors and family.
"I'm happy for them, I'm glad Swan finally got the girl he was chasing." Vermin clapped as he watched you both walk off into the sunrise. "Same here, they're perfect for each other." Rembrandt agreed in aww. "Petty shit like this shouldn't bring a tear to my eye, but it's just so beautiful." D-Train sniffed and kept his minor tears hidden under his shades.
"I reckon they'll come back. Maybe just to visit, but that ain't the last we've seen of those love birds." Cowboy folded his arms and leaned over the balcony as he continued to watch you and Swan in the distance.
"WARRIORS!" You yelled back to the gang.
"YOU'RE THE LAST OF AN ANCIENT BREED!" You added with a cheerful call, that was then returned with the strong mighty cheers of Cowboy, Vermin, Rembrandt and D-Train.
"I love you, Swan." You continued to smile and place a kiss on Swan's cheek.
"I love you too." Swan smiled at your kiss and began to enjoy the newfound freedom he had with you.
Then that was it, you and Swan left the armies of the night life behind and went wherever the road took you both...
Forever?
