Part 9
Aarti watched him...she was contented for a moment. She was relieved, he was safe.
He didn't look at her... she was waiting for his one glance but he started to discuss the project. Her smile faded and she concentrated on his words regarding the new project.
So she was working in his company, he never bothered to tell her about his company...and here she was dying to meet him, concerned for his safety.
She considered herself the biggest fool ever. She was the one after him and he was least anxious about her. Why was she even sitting here? For whom, for Veer who never cared for her...her emotions. Who didn't meet her once and gave her no way to find him out. She was wrong he never loved her, neither does he.
She heard the applauds...her thoughts came to the present where all the board members were listening to him. Everybody around appreciated him for his new project. She added her claps. Soon everyone dispersed. He was still checking some files.
This was the first time she didn't wanted to go close to him. She closed her file and walked towards the glass door when her eyes felt on Sanya shaking hands with him...nothing troubled her. She stepped out of the conference hall....
She looked at the computer screen. This was certainly not what she expected. She decided something and started typing.
After few minutes she saw him coming towards the reception. Without even looking at her, he left the building. She was sad, sad about everything around her.
She loved him and this was not what she wanted. She was glad to see him fit and fine but was not happy about the way he treated her.
He hide everything from her. Even his identity. How can he become her life partner if he so secretive.
She finished typing and took the letter to Mr Oberoi
"But Aarti, why do you want to resign?"
She smiled a little though her heart had already broken into pieces "personal reasons Sir"
Mr Oberoi was certainly not happy "if you want to think, you can take some time Aarti...don't decide in rush"
"Not rush Sir. I decided after thinking a lot" she smiled and left
She was packing her things when Abhi came to her desk "So where are you going now?"
She smiled "this place is not for me Abhi"
Abhi was surprised "what happened?"
"Nothing...take care and all the best" Aarti picked her bag and left.
She made sure she packed everything. She quickly checked all the windows and made sure she locked the apartment properly.
Just when she was about to close the door....she saw him.
"Are you going somewhere?"
She didn't answer and picked up her bags towards the lift...
He held her arm "I am asking you Aarti" he frowned
"Leave me" she said softly
"At least listen to me once"
"I don't want to, now please let me go" she pulled her arm from his clasp
Without saying anything he let her go
Angrily she closed the lift and saw him for the last time....
"Aarti" he whispered
She closed her eyes

2 years later
Seasons passed...weather changed. Time went on with its pace.
Aarti as usual looked at the pigeons gathered in groups...she ate her sandwich and walked back to her office.
She left Mumbai, her parents, her friends and came to a different country thinking she might forget all her past memories with him.
But her heart and mind were still entangled with him. The moment her mind thought about him. She brushed off her feelings. She ranted over herself for loving and believing such a man in her life.
She walked down the stairs...as usual the weather was cold. She hardly enjoyed summer in the last two years...
She walked back to her office after her lunch break....
"Ellie....did you complete that report?" Aarti quickly sauntered into her office
Ellie smiled at her boss "yes Aarti...almost done"
"Ok, see you in ten"
Aarti looked at her calendar... she had an urgent meeting. She would finish editing the report and go...
Ellie quickly rushed to Aarti... "Here's the report Aarti"
"Thanks Ellie..." Aarti quickly took the report
It was almost evening, the staff had already left. Aarti prepared everything and all was ready for publishing. She made sure everything goes smoothly.
Being the editor in chief of the famous magazine in Switzerland, there was a big responsibility on her to look after each and every piece of article that was supposed to be published tomorrow.
-----------------------------------------------------
Few days later...
Early morning, Aarti got a call from her senior in London
"Aarti read the newspaper and please make sure we do publish about the bravery of this officer"
"Sure, I will read and check"
She walked towards the table and picked up the newspaper.... It was indeed the headline...
"Brave Indian Officer's mission successful"
She rubbed her eyes to carefully read the news again... this must be the same officer, she reminisced...she did heard about him a lot when she was in Mumbai.
She read the whole news to check his name and picture... but couldn't find one. She yawned and tied her hair with a band into ponytail. Then quickly poured some coffee in her mug.
She checked the weather outside, as usual it was raining, and she could still see the snow clad mountains from the window of her room.
Aarti took a deep breath and the moment her heart thought about him she closed her eyes and turned on the music. She was doing this from past two years to avoid thinking about him.
She quickly had shower and left for work... it was just few minutes from where she lived. She looked happy but sadness filled her heart ever since she left him.
She was living and working only for the sake of her parents.
She quickly dressed in her warm dress and stockings, nicely wrapped the scarf around her neck and a warm hat.
She made sure she carried her umbrella at all times since rains were very common.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aarti was happy after talking to her senior, this was one of the best news so far.
She would publish the interview of the brave officer, and she was in charge of the interview and editing. She made sure everything was arranged properly.
She checked all the details, she arranged the officer's pick up from the airport and his stay in Switzerland. She prepared all the questionnaire and checked each detail.
"Ellie, call Mark...we'll have to organise camera and lights in the conference room this Friday" Aarti checked all the paper work and made sure her team was doing all work nicely.
Finally the day came when she was waiting for the arrival of the brave Indian officer...
"Aarti, what's the name of the interviewee?" Ellie asked while printing the report
Aarti baffled around "oh my God...I will check" she quickly walked to her room and checked the fax that her senior had sent with all the details....
She heard the car outside and quickly rushed out... "It's alright Ellie...you can print it after sometime" she whispered softly
Aarti adjusted her clothes and opened the door to greet the officer... the moment she saw him her smile faded... "Veer"
Veer smiled "hi, commando Veer Oberoi" and shake hands with her.
She was lost for a moment. Was it really him or was she dreaming. How is it possible? How can Veer be the undercover officer when he's the owner of VOC.
"Aarti..." she came out of her thought and glanced around... Ellie was waiting for her
Aarti asked Ellie to show him around...and she will be back.
Aarti wiped her tears and washed her face. Why her destiny every time collides with him? She doesn't want him in her life. That was her reason to get out of there and now after she has tried to make herself understand the fact that they can't live together.
"Aarti, we have showed Mr Oberoi the guest room" Ellie said while looking at her sad face...
Aarti immediately smiled to hide her emotions "oh, thanks Ellie"
Aarti realised she has to be professional and nothing more than that.
She walked towards the guest house...with a notepad, pen and her recorder
"Hi" he greeted her
"Hi"
She sat on the couch and made sure she was sitting opposite him.
"Hope you had a safe journey" she said without looking at him.
"Yes, thanks" he replied...
She turned on her recorder
"Shall we start" she asked
"Yes please"
"Ok, my first question, when and how did you inspire to be a commando officer?"
He smiled at her
"Since I was born, I think...inspired, well life is a big inspiration and inspiration from people's pain and agony"
She was quiet for a moment
"When did you started your commando training?"
"Six years back"
"Why did you become a commando when you had your own channel?"
"I don't run the channel, I am just the owner. I work only for my country and its people."
"Anyone who is most dear to you?"
"My country"
Aarti was silent and he was taciturn. She made sure she will not become weak. She has to control her feelings.
"How did you manage to catch the terrorists all alone?"
"I wasn't alone. It was a mission. Whenever I see the terrorists I feel like ripping them apart" he sounded angrier
So he never changed. From the first day till now. She thought herself so stupid for not recognising him. She recalled the first time he saved her and till now he did not change. He was emotionless, unsympathetic and heartless...
"Thanks Mr Oberoi for your time and your answers" she said softly putting aside all her emotions...
She stopped the recorder and was about to leave.... When he held her hand
"Won't even talk to me"
"Sorry, you have no right to hold me" she retorted with little anger in her voice.
But he did not leave her....
"Aarti...you know why I didn't tell you anything...it's because"
"Stop...I didn't ask. Now please let me go" she said firmly trying to free her hand
"I have come here only for you, I have never given any interview in my life but I came all the way to meet you. To tell you everything" he tried to calm her...
"It's too late...and I don't want to know you" she said coldly
Crossly he pulled her against the wall .... She couldn't hold her tears anymore and started crying...
"Damn it, do you even know, what responsibilities I have towards my work. Why do you assume everything by yourself?" he gripped her arms with his hands...
"So I was not a part of your responsibility" she cried out ....fell down on her knees...
His knitted brows faded, he felt bad. He couldn't see her crying at all. "Two years...I have been dying every day. But why should you be bothered Veer...? You just take me for granted" she pulled herself away from his touch...
He ran his hand in his hair....
"I...I don't want to listen to your responsibilities anymore" she sobbed
For the first time she spoke her heart out. She was least scared of losing him this time.
He moved to and fro the room....
"First time you left me in the college...you didn't even bother to tell me that you were leaving...." She wept "an...and the second time, when you met me...you just never bothered to tell about yourself and ..."
"Because it was highly private and confidential Aarti..."
She got up "oh really...even hiding from me?"
"Fine...you take your resentment out today" he snarled at her...
She wiped her tears and was about to leave when he hold her hand "I said take your anger out Aarti"
She tried to free her hand from his tight clasp... "Leave me Veer, you are hurting me"
Without saying another word, he let her go away...
She closed the door behind her while leaving outside... she didn't turned back to look at him
He shook his head "why are girls so difficult" he murmured. Veer had no clue what to do. If it was some terrorist he would have beaten up, killed them. But he doesn't know what to do with Aarti...how to persuade her. Angrily he threw his phone away.
----------------------------------------------------------
Next morning
Aarti was walking down the road when she saw him following her
"What do you want now?"
"Nothing, just walking?" he replied coming closer to her
She tried making more distance
"You don't work today?"
"It's weekend" she snapped at him
"Wow...holiday" he put his hands in his jacket... "Weather is so cold here"
"Just like you" she muttered
"What did you say?"
"Nothing, I don't think I can talk to you anymore" she adjusted her scarf and walked towards the snow mountains...
"And why is that?" he frowned
"Because I don't like commandos" she said with a straight face
He scowled at her "why?"
She turned to look at his angry face "because they are heartless" she pointed her finger towards his chest....
He was silent for a moment "that's not true"
Aarti laughed sarcastically "you are saying this...you?"
Veer didn't had much experience in these things. She wasn't right though. He wasn't heartless but yes he didn't express much to her. "Ok, let's have coffee"
She stared at him "no, thanks" she kept walking
Veer thought of going back, it seemed really difficult to convince her. She became quite a stubborn lady in these two years. But he knew she loves him. He smirked a little.
