Part 38

He knew her better than anyone, loved her more than anyone, but in these infrequent failures to suppress his rage at the world he tore into her like only a lover can...

Veer had to leave for his next mission, he received the orders right in the morning on his table.

Being a soldier and a committed officer he gave up all his sentiments, and thoughts for his work. He knew she wouldn't come along with him leaving her parents depressed. Even he wouldn't force her at this time, it was her decision and he will never come in between her and her family.

The decision was hard not only for Aarti but for him as well, only his inner self knows how much he wants her but every time the opportunities have ditched them.

It would be better to leave this on destiny now. If she has to come back in his life, she will herself. He knew Aarti's the only girl who has made such a place in his heart that even if he tries to forget her, he simply can't.

Looking at her small picture in his phone, he kept admiring her for a few seconds "stop changing me" he murmured and kept the phone back in his pocket.

Some small places around the Deccan of the country are facing problems by bandits that were making the lives of the local villagers difficult. A month before they killed few police officers in that area and even burnt the police station resulting in the killing of few police officials...

The government had passed the orders to army now who will be cleaning this massive distortion that's increasing day by day...

Being a rural area people were mostly scared because of the increasing bandits who had their usual rights issue and wanted the government to follow their orders to which the ministers declined straight away...

All this started when a local villager stood against his own village and few others joined him in his so called impractical undertaking. The whole story was still unknown to the media.

Yashpal opened the door only to see Veer getting all ready to leave "Sir, the jeep is waiting outside"

Veer nodded "good, just clear all this and let's leave"

Yashpal wanted to ask about Aarti, but then he knew this was his Major's personal life and he has no right to ask. He felt bad as the poor girl's eyes were moist when she left the room yesterday...he picked up Veer's laptop and a small bag that was neatly packed few minutes ago...

Veer wore his uniform and left from the hospital, he checked his phone for any more updates regarding the mission. The latest he received was that he has to leave as soon as possible to control this situation as it was getting worse.

In a short time he left for the next mission. He had to save innocent villagers from the hands of the bandits. Veer was least concerned about his own life and even the thought about her didn't come around him at all.

This was indeed not the first time that he forgot all his life and things around him, whenever he hears about a crime or he's given a set mission, he rarely thinks anything other than his task...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The jeeps passed through the dusty sand trails. The whole area as far as one could see was covered with sand dunes...the silent paths were connected through to some rural villages. There were a total of five small villages in the whole area that only had little amenities...

"Do you know anything about this area Yashpal?" Veer perused the area through the binoculars while sitting in the front seat of the car... Yashpal drove cautiously towards the uneven paths "not really sir...all I heard is this area is very retrograde and people hardly know anything about the world outside. Poverty stricken area Sir"

"Hmm, looks like this area is not even connected to the biosphere"

Yashpal giggled at his major's witty retort...

"Stop the jeep" Veer commanded and Yashpal immediately stopped the jeep... "Yes Sir"

Veer stepped out and squinted the whole area that had nothing except the sand dunes and small half broken road where he stood. Some barren trees that were visible from a distance...there were not many though.

One or two cattle that kept roaming with their master.... Veer looked towards the left side of the village where he could see some rocks placed on the sand dunes... the whole area was unusually covered with the stones and rocks "must be the one" he murmured

Yashpal looked up but couldn't see much as it wasn't easy to stare without sunglasses.

"Ok let's go" Veer stepped in the jeep and the team drove towards the nearest Kipla village...

Scarcity had covered the area, small kids were seen playing on the outskirts of their small huts. Only few houses had bricks the rest were still covered with mud. With extremely hot weather there was a scarceness of food and water almost half of the time.

"Sir we have entered the village now" Yashpal carefully drove towards the steep broken path.

The paths were no doubt muddy and in a very bad condition.

After passing through the village the jeep stopped near the police headquarters that was almost on the outer road touching the village...

The whole village was surrounded with mountains of sand dunes, with the left side occupied by the bandits.

Veer hopped off the jeep observing the surroundings... "We need to create bunkers. This is not a safe place"

The whole team of twenty soldiers were ready to follow the orders of their commanding officer.

Veer without taking off his sunglasses looked at the old village head or sarpanch who very trustingly folded his hands in front of Veer to save his village as their village was the closest to the Deccan bandits and they were the easy targets... "We are very poor people and only can bare few necessities of life. These people have killed innocent villagers for no reason."

"Don't worry" Veer touched his hands "it's our duty, you don't have to fold your hands..."

The brigands attacked the local people and their houses for food and water. A total of five villages were already attacked by the thugs in the past few months.

The survival of these villagers had now become vital for the army that was all ready to set up their stations in the village nearest to the outlaw prone area.

Veer received the messages on the RT. With a team of twenty soldiers he organized the places to hide and attack when the bandits come towards this village. With some information from the local people it was clear that so far all the occurrences were took place around midnight and that too every fortnight.

Being the authoritative the responsibility of not only the soldiers but the people residing in the village became his priority. For the next few hours Veer was busy organizing things to trap these brutes.

Prior to this he decided himself to go where these bandits were residing and kill them there only but due to the orders from the higher authorities he had to wait on the outskirts of the nearest village and get everything prepared in a manner that these culprits can be punished.

He was given the right to shoot them right on the spot. Veer walked towards the little huts that were just near the Deccan valley from where the villagers usually heard the gun shots.

He made sure that no villager was seen around the area. People who resided nearby were advised to pack their belongings and move further inside the village.

Veer made sure the whole area was checked properly, he had no clue how much weapons these bandits carried and who gave them such training. But first of all he has to know how strong the leader of these bandits was and why the hell was he creating such havoc in his own country.

Rama rushed to every room but was unable to locate her daughter "she's gone Manmohan...I told you she won't listen"

Kirti consoled her mother "why don't you let her free for some time Mom. You know she will not listen. Let her go where ever she wants and please let her do what she likes"

Rama shouted back at her "no way...I don't like her social servicing the society and going around different places to serve people. What a pathetic job is this"

Manmohan after speaking to his friend Bhalla advised his wife to be patient. He knew Aarti had already packed her bags and left for some place to look after people and continue as a social worker.

This time he didn't felt like stopping her, he wanted Aarti to complete whatever she wanted. He knew Aarti loved doing social services and she can survive in every condition.

"You should be proud of your daughter Rama...now stop howling unnecessarily"

Rama looked at Kirti "why doesn't this girl listen to me. Every time she does something stupid. First she married that soldier than when I fixed her marriage with Zora, she got him beaten or what and now she's left without even advising me where she was..."

Kirti shook her head "Please Mom...just leave her alone for some time. I am pretty sure she will be fine"

"Manmohan, where has she gone anyway?" Rama wiped her tears

Manmohan gave a thoughtful look "Chakkittapara"

"Chakkittapara? What's that?" Kirti asked making a face

"Some small village near Kerala" Manmohan said and walked away...

Rama's mouth dropped out at her husband's response "Kerala! Oh my God"
