Twenty-four
"Wear something warm and comfortable," Liam instructs. Staring at my dress, a small frown appears on my face. Catching my point, Liam smiles and says, "Just do it, baby, I have plans for us. Besides, you've been walking around in those shoes the entire day, aren't you tired?"
His constant concerns over my well-being make me blush.
"So my fiancé cares about my legs, huh?" I hug him playfully from behind, distracting his attempt to take off the jacket of his sit.
"Of course I do." He spins around with a grin, and then he takes ahold of my waist so that my chest crushes onto his. "I almost joined Kruger on this instant wedding thing today. I'm so eager to marry you." He kisses the tip of my nose.
"Instant wedding?" I burst out laughing. He can be such a clown. "That's a pretty name, I guess. But I'm glad you didn't do it, or else Eleanor would curse us for life."
"Tell me about it." Liam laughs along, and sighs heavily afterwards. "But it was beautiful, and they looked happy," he utters, and it's nothing but the truth.
I bet they're having a blast right now wherever they are. I hug Liam tighter at the thought of my own marriage to come, and the honeymoon, too. I pray to God everything goes as planned.
"So, should I get changed, or continue staying in your arms like this?" I ask in a whisper, running my fingers through Liam's hair.
"I think . . . getting changed will do perfectly well at the moment," he replies.
"Hmm, okay. And where exactly are you taking me?" I pull back to behold his face, my subconscious as curious as I am.
We're having a date, damn it! It's always exciting going places with Mr. Intense—near or far.
"Surprise, Ms. Jones. Surprise," Liam whispers, kissing me on the cheek. I purse my lips at him, and he laughs softly. "Now get out of my arms before I rip your pretty dress off.
"Liam!" I chuckle, for my sex goddess doesn't seem appalled at the idea. "You're right, though. Let me change before I rip your shirt off!" I return and collective laughter fills our private chamber.
I slip into a blue skinny jeans and warm, oversized crotchet sweater in baby pink. Per Liam's demand, that I need my feet relaxed, I wear some white espadrilles that feel more like socks. Liam gives me a smile of approval right away.
"That's good. And you're still hot, Mrs. Darcy," he says ingenuously.
Such a fastidious man! I grin at him, or more at the way he's addressed me.
"Thank you, Mr. Darcy. Shall we?"
"By all means." He takes my hand and together we head toward the exit.
Outside the hotel, a black Mercedes Benz is on the wait. My, oh my! My eyes are filled with both bemusement and excitement; not knowing where exactly we're heading. Asking for information is no longer a trick as far as Liam's surprise is concerned.
We slip into the backseat and the engine starts. Automatically I lay my head on Liam's shoulder. He glances at me but stays taciturn after a brief smile. Silently we slide deeper into the strip. This city indeed doesn't sleep, and the night feels more like a day: so shiny, so hectic, yet so relaxing.
"What are you thinking of?" Liam interrupts my reverie.
I release a soundless sigh. "How amazing this place is," I reply with a smile, eyes transfixed by the shimmering surrounding outside, every building flashy, each billboard oozing with beaming colors and lights. "But still, I want to be at home." I let out my inner thoughts.
"Don't worry. We're leaving tomorrow, and very soon we'll be at our home." Liam assures me with a kiss on the top of my head.
"Our home," I breathe.
We finally arrive to our destination, I guess. My eyes scan around as we get out of the car. We are in front of one of the tall buildings around the area, and sooner a young man approaches to regard us. Greetings follow before he leads us inside the building.
I hold Liam's hand like a docile kid as we get into the elevator. The wildfire in the name of my curiosity doesn't seem to fade, and even so when we reach the rooftop of the building. Chilly evening air envelopes my skin, capricious breeze blowing my curls away.
I'm holding onto every detail, wondering what my fiance has in store for us both this lovely evening. Who knew Liam could be this sneaky? And my eyes widen at the sight of a helicopter standing still at the apex of the empty ground filling the rooftop.
"Are we flying?" I quickly face Liam, and he shrugs with a big smile. "Wow!" I exclaim loudly.
Excitement becomes me. Even if Malik had me the honors of having my first helicopter ride back in Montana, this one can't stop me from reeling.
"Welcome." A cool, confident voice comes through. Casting my glance aside, another man in a white uniform approaches with his best smile.
"Let's go." Liam leads me toward him.
"Hi." The man in white is now closer to us. Handshaking with Liam, he says, "I'm Ryan Lin, your pilot. But you can just call Ryan."
"Pleasure." is Liam's curt reply.
"Ma'am." Ryan faces me and my stupid grin is all he needs to feel flattered.
Jeez, chill woman! My subconscious scolds but how do I chill when I'm super excited, huh?
We walk into the helicopter. Boy, it's a black one, very big from the outside and way spacier in the inside. It looks fancy, too, with white or cream interiors and leather seatings.
"Wow. This is big!" I say while taking a seat, Liam following suit after sending me in first.
"Haven't I mentioned that it's the limousine of the sky? And I'm about to blow your mind!" Ryan remarks gleefully, making my grin widen.
I'm no longer a stranger to this lifestyle as I easily buckle up in my seat. Liam smiles gently and fixes the headset on me, making sure I'm all secured as his sole concern—always.
Not long after, the ride commences at an exciting pace, syncing with the wind. I'm in awe, butterflies fluttering their wings inside my stomach as we depart from the rooftop and fly away.
"Wow!" My gaze drops down through the window, the feeling ever ethereal. "This is awesome!" I scream, caring so little about my age.
"Do you like it?" Liam asks, laughing at the face I'm wearing whenever I glance at him with my mouth agape.
"I love it!" I reply matter-of-factly, watching the enchanting neon colored street streaming into view.
I can't believe we are flying above the Las Vegas skyline, beholding everything from up above where they all look so magnificent.
"They say Paris is the city of light but I beg to differ!" Ryan shouts from the front. "Vegas is the light!"
"I couldn't agree more," Liam replies and I gather what they're talking about when I spot an interesting sight.
"Woah, now I can see it better! And there are more replicas, huh?" I ask, for I've already seen the Statue of Liberty at New York-New York Hotel, and the Grand Canal when the girls and I signed for a canoe ride that we couldn't take, unfortunately.
"Oh yes! As you can see some of them right over there!" Ryan says loudly.
We all get a glimpse of a shimmering Eiffel tower that brings Paris to Nevada. It's not as big as the original one in Paris, but it's as exquisite and eye-catching as all other landmarks I see, including our own hotel—Bellagio—and the water show that's currently taking place.
"Beautiful," I murmur, my mind dazzled.
Everything looks sparkly, like one beautiful Christmas Eve, multiple colored lights adorning the darkness, fighting for an alluring dominance over the other. Liam smiles placidly, his eyes stuck on me. The helicopter advances further into the sky while I take all the important details from the pilot.
"You see," Ryan shouts, "back in the 90s most of the resorts tried to adopt different themes so as to bring European cities in one place. I guess that was the main reason in puting those structures in Vegas."
"Oh, that makes sense," I return, glancing up at him. "I also saw Pyramid like those in Egypt, the Statue of David, which is a Roman sculpture by Michaelangelo if I remember correctly.
And that Grand Canal is quite popular in Venice, I guess. And well, everyone loves an Eiffel so . . . I think the idea was brilliant." I think of Sam and her love for Paris.
She should see this.
"Exactly. You'll see most of world's iconic structures if you simply visit Las Vegas," Ryan remarks.
Flying higher above the strip, we pass through many dazzling landmarks like the Stratosphere tower, the high roller, Caesar's resorts, and the amazing skyline of the best hotels and casinos like the GMG Grand, Bellagio, New York-New York, together with the beaming Luxor's pyramids.
Damn, Vegas is beautiful.
Although the ride doesn't take long as I would want it to be, I still manage to feel the happiest when we finally land back onto the rooftop. I jump onto Liam and kiss him stoutly for the few minutes full of joy he's given me. We thank the pilot, who's been very friendly with us, before stepping out.
"This was so cool, Liam!" I chirp yet again, clinging onto his arm like an overly excited child after a fond moment at the amusement park.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it, my love," Liam tells me, his smile full of content. "What shall we do next? Are we going back to the hotel?" he inquires.
"Um . . . no. I'd like to take a walk for a while before we head back. The night is still young."
Even watching the streets from up here feels celestial. Is it the place or the company that counts the most? I smile to myself while leaning my head onto Liam's arm, still standing on the rooftop. The very same man who brought us here, takes us back.
"Get in," Liam says. We're outside the building, our black Mercedes right before us.
I'm far from being tired. The adrenaline is still kicking high in my system as the driver drops us off to a place we can easily take a walk and have fun at the same time. Holding hands, laughing like toddlers at very mundane details become our norm.
"Are you going to eat all that? I thought you said you were full a while ago," Liam asks, teasing me. We've decided to drop by at Caesars Palace, an amazing food court full of heart-melting treats.
My conviction, of course. How do I dare let down my food goddess? It's her time to reign.
"Liam, don't embarrass me," I murmur, nudging his shoulder as two ladies take a seat next to us. "Girls have got their own priorities too. And I'm hungry, just so you know."
"Oh. I had no idea." Laughing, Liam grabs a slice of pizza, avoiding burgers and tacos. "Taco salad. So it's a thing after all?" he asks, eyeing my current food choice.
Responsively, I stuff a tortilla with veggies. "Try it. American style." I feed him. Tentatively he takes the bite and I wait patiently for his comment. "So?" I urge.
He licks his bottom lip and gives me a thumb up. "Splendid."
I grin. "I feel like I want to eat everything. Why don't you give me a dare already?" I glance at him while filling another tortilla.
"A dare?" Liam laughs heartily. "Are you looking for an excuse to overeat, Kira?"
"Kind of. I'll go on a diet from tomorrow, so don't judge me today," I state, making him shake his head amusedly.
A diet? It's what you've been saying since . . . forever? My subconscious taunts, scoffing rudely.
By the time we return to the hotel, it's already past midnight. Now I can feel my bones cracking, tired but happy. We take a quick shower and my gratitude doesn't stop making Liam happier. Give credit when it's due—my cowboy has really made my day.
"Agh, in bed at last!" Liam sighs heavily, lying on his back facing the ceiling.
"Yeah, what a day." I grab his T-shirt to put it on, ready to sleep.
"You are right. Starting from the wedding, I can not say it was a mundane day," Liam replies, eyes on me.
My smile is agreeable. "Thank you so much, Mr. Darcy. You make me feel so blessed." I join him in bed.
"That is exactly how I feel, Ms. Jones," Liam takes me in his arms. "Having you in my life is indeed a blessing. I desperately need you in my life, baby. Every single day of my life."
There goes my heart. My eyes dampen and I squeeze myself closer to his side.
"I love you." I lay another kiss on his lips, and smoothly we hold each other with persistent passion.
I know I can't last without letting him touch me everywhere. Easily my body succumbs to his sexiness the moment he caresses my hair, kissing me deeper.
When we pause, I'm breathless. Chuckling, I tell him, "We have a flight tomorrow, let's sleep."
"It'll be in the afternoon, so you'll have enough time to sleep," says Liam.
"So?"
"So . . . Goodnight!"
"Seriously?"
"Yes, Kira. What were you expecting?" He laughs loudly, cajoling me.
"Nothing, Liam. Goodnight." I lay my head onto his chest, feeling his warm and assuring embrace while shutting my eyes slowly.
It doesn't need to be sex to feel needed by this man. A sweet mental reminder to myself as a smile crosses my lips.
