Chapter 6

Jane stood in the doorway of the house with her arms crossed. She glared at James.

"Jane, go back inside." My eyes never left James' face.

"I'm not going anywhere as long as he's here." She promised.

"Yeah, Jane. Stay for the party. It won't be fun without you." James smiled.

"Oh, shut it!" Jane yelled.

"Do you two share a brain or do you just finish each other's sentence?" He wondered

"We do not--"

"--Finish each other's sentences." Jane finished.

"See?" James laughed.

"Dammit..." I sighed.

"It's alright, Bella. I need you to leave James." Jane walked up next to me and faced the vampire.

"I'll leave when I leave. I don't need some princess telling me what to do." James glared at Jane.

"Look buddy--"

"Both of you shut the fuck up!" I yelled.

They quieted but still glared at each other. I sighed.

"James. I'll call or text you later ok? Just please go." I said exhaustedly.

"Fine." James left the way he came.

I went to stand in James' spot and stared at Jane.

"What's was that?" I asked.

"What was what? You expect me to just deal with his shit?" Jane crossed hey arms.

"Yes, sadly. You can't change the way he is. He brings shit and drama wherever he goes." I sighed.

"I'm going to tell the guards to watch out for James and to report if they ever see him anywhere." Jane walked over to the guards in the front of the house.

I sighed and went back inside. This is too much for me right now. I went up to my room, which was the biggest room in the house. I closed the door and locked it. I sat on the Queen sized bed and thought to myself for a while.

Why would James come back after all this time? What for? I know he didn't come back for me. And who was that Victoria girl? I knew she hated me, her mind is as bad and complicated as James'. Was she James' girlfriend? Well, I knew one thing: We were not going to get along anytime soon. She has to earn my respect and trust, not the other way around.

Why did he have to bring up our parents' deaths? Did he not understand that it hurts to think about them after all this time? I was too young to understand what was happening and this hurts me the most. James acts like he doesn't care and that makes it worst. Does he have any remorse for that he did? Apparently not.

I can't do this. Sitting here and thinking about them hurts. I need to get away from the house. Away from everything. I sat up and looked out the window to see if Jane was still there. It was empty. Good. I grabbed a coat from the walk-in closet and I ran outside.

The lot was still empty and quiet. I ignored the car in the driveway and headed east by foot. I walked on the sidewalk away from the house and headed toward the woods that seemed like a hour walk away. Good, it gave me time to think.

The light seemed as dim as twilight. As I walked, I heard the ground slosh beneath my feet. It must of rained the previous night. As I got closer to the woods, I heard the sounds of animals in the trees and in the air. I heard the sounds of water from the trees slowly dripping back to earth. The woods seemed a lot bigger than before once I got there. The path suddenly disappeared from underneath me and all my feet touched was the wet ground and gravel.

I took off my coat and hung it onto a nearby tree. The night turned quiet and peaceful after a while. I was about to leave when I saw a mountain lion stalking an elk. I immediately went into hunting mode.  I hid behind a big rock and stalked the lion. Neither of them moved for a little while, Venom filled my mouth and I lunged at the lion. The elk ran off but I didn't pay any attention to it. The lion tried to defend itself and was very fast, but I was faster. I stuck my fangs into its neck and drained the lion of blood.

One the lion was dead, I got off of it and stood up. I didn't bother to clean the blood from my clothes and mouth. The forest seemed to get darker than before. There were no animals or anything in sight. The night was quiet again. I decided to wander around the forest before I went back to the house.

I went back for my coat and slung it over my head then walked though the forest. I looked at the ponds, the animals, counted and named some of the trees, etc. After a few hours I was about to leave when I heard a screech. My body worked faster than my mind. I was suddenly running towards the sound which came from deeper into the woods. I had to slow down when I reached the cliff so I wouldn't fall over. It seemed to be a dead end.

I then smelled blood from behind me. I turned to see a pile of dead elk. I counted at least four. Their eyes were glassy and unseeing so I knew their deaths were recent. What killed them?

"What are you doing here?"

I looked up and met a pair of gold eyes.
