Chapter Three | eerhT retpahC

That evening, I didn't sleep well at all. Knowing that I was lying in the same room as a group of hyperactive Gryffindors put me off extremely. Since I was in the girls dormitory, I was with a young girl called Lily Evans who didn't bother me as much as the other girls. There were only a few girls that had been sorted into Gryffindor but the few that were were extremely irritating and didn't understand the concept of boundaries.

"What's your name?" A girl asked.

"Wendy Province." I said simply.

"My name is Marlene, nice to meet you Wendy." Marlene said.

"Pointless to meet you, Marlene." I said, not looking up from my book.

"Excuse me?" Marlene asked, annoyed.

"Excuse you." I told her.

She just huffed and walked out of the Gryffindor girls dorm room. I hoped that she knew it was night and it was actually time to go to sleep. I just shook my head and began to shuffle down in bed. I placed my book on my bedside table, next to my lamp and placed my slippers neatly at the side of my bed for the morning. Putting my head on the pillow, I closed my eyes and breathed in the smell of the clean linen pillow that smelt familiar to the washing up liquid my mother used (when she decided to wash up).

I didn't sleep well, I never did in new places. Instead, I decided that sleep was pointless as I was just lying awake in bed rolling around like an idiot. I sat up, shuffled up so I was sitting against the headboard and took out my book again.

But it didn't help me with my inability to sleep. I then decided to go down to the kitchens to get a glass of warm milk, something that was bound to make me sleepy. I slipped on my slippers, tied my dressing gown around my waist and proceeded to walk down the stairs with my wand in my hand under Lumos. Although I hated the dark, I never thought I was scared of it until now.

"Hello." A voice whispered.

I stood in the same spot, rigid.

"Wh-who are you?" I said in a whisper.

It didn't reply for a minute until I started to breath heavily. It didn't make sense what it said next but I knew what it wanted me to do. Any idiot would know what I was going to have to do.

"Run." It said.

I started screaming, running back to the dorm room and up the stairs. I lost a slipper on the way up but I didn't care. I knew I should have never come here. It was just an excuse for my mother to pawn me off on some strangers.

"What's going on, Wendy?" Lily said alarmed.

"There's someone in the common room!" I yelled.

Marlene rubbed her eyes tiredly and just put the pillow over her head. Alice in the opposite bed stood up and went into the common room. Shortly after she came back up and told us that no one was there.

"B-but I saw it! He told me to run!" I said, my breathing out of control.

I sounded like a four year-old, for Merlins sake.

"Calm down, Wendy. Take a few deep breaths and go to sleep. You should feel better after a good nights sleep." Lily instructed, guiding me to my bed.

"I can do it myself, thank you." I said frigidly.

Although I knew Lily's heart was in the right place, I didn't want to go to sleep because it was impossible. The full, school days ahead and the nonstop essays. It was going to be so magical.
