Chapter Four.

May's POV.

Ah prom.

Such a useless occasion.

A event where teenagers go to criticize and belittle each other...where most teens end up crying or losing their virginity.

But for some reason, humans love prom and in fact look forward to it.

It was definitely confusing but I wasn't going to take the time to think about why humans liked something that they will only regret later.

I needed to think of my plans for prom night.

One thing was for sure though....tonight was going to be a night the tabloids will never forget.

💀 🔪

" I can't believe after all that's happened, we're still going to go to Prom." Abbie muttered with a soft sigh but gave the others a small smile.

" I suppose we'll just have to have as much fun as we can tonight before we get snapped back to reality." Abbie continued while laying out the skirt of her two piece dress.

" That's the spirit!" Catherine exclaimed with a smile.

All of the girls were gathered at Abbie's house, getting ready for prom which was in about three hours.

" Abby! Mrs. Klause is at the door for you!" Abbie's mom called from downstairs which startled Abby slightly.

" Klause? As in....dead girl, Sarah Klause?" Ella blinked in surprise.

" Yeah...it's her mom." Abbie murmured before exiting the room.

Jessica and Ella exchanged troubled looks before going back to getting ready.

Abbie walked forward and smiled reassuringly at Mrs. Klause.

" Hi Lori. How...how are you doing?" Abbie asked, trying to force down the bile that was starting to form in her throat.

" I...I'll live....I was just looking through.....her stuff and...I found some things that I thought you might want..." Mrs. Klause said in a soft voice, her expression showed that she was on the verge of tears but she was staying strong.

" Oh, thanks." Abbie said awkwardly, not knowing what else to say.

Mrs. Klause said nothing in return but simply handed Abbie a box and walked away leaving Abbie standing awkwardly in the doorway.

Abbie closed the door with her foot and made her way upstairs before setting the box onto the bed.

" What's that?" Catherine asked, curiously eyeing the box.

" I don't know yet. But Mrs. Klause said it was some things that I'd probably want." Abbie said quietly, while opening the box gingerly.

The first thing that caught Abbie's eye was an old but well taken care of Cinderella doll.

Abbie's eyes filled with tears as she picked up the doll gently.

" Cinderella is dumb." Little Abbie muttered.

" No she's not! She's dances good and is pretty just like you." Little Sarah said, looking slightly offended.

" You think I'm pretty?" Little Abbie asked shyly.

" Yes you're very pretty and that's why Cinderella is your doll, cause she's just like you." Little Sarah smiled handing the doll to Abbie.

" A doll?" Catherine asked which jolted Abbie out of her memories.

" Yeah...it's mine from when I was like six." Abbie explained while gingerly setting the doll onto her bed.

" Oh...well what else is in there?" Catherine asked which earned a glare from Ella.

" What? I'm just curious." Catherine rolled her eyes lightly.

" You're being nosey. Just be quiet." Jessica shook her head a little.

" Fine..." Catherine muttered and sat down on the bed beside the box.

Abbie pulled out a few clothing items that she'd left behind at Sandy's house but simply discarded them onto the floor since they were too small anyway.

The shine of glass caught Abbie's attention and she picked up a picture frame which held a picture of Sarah and Abbie when they were six, they were covered in water and held a damp golden retriever puppy.

" Remember Muffin? He was a great dog, he knew how to play dead and would play tag with us. He died last year of old age." Abbie said with a sad smile and set the picture onto her nightstand.

The girls gave no reply but simply listened silently.

Abbie pulled out another photo and laughed softly.

" Hey Ella, look." Abbie said handing the photo to Ella who smiled as she examined the photo.

" We were like...eight here?" Ella said quietly. The girls were all covered in white paint and stood proudly next to a fence which had been painted white as well.

Little Sarah had her arms around Ella and Abbie's shoulders, a paintbrush in her right hand. Ella was covered in paint and her pink glasses had little smudges of white paint on them. Abbie on the other hand looked fairly clean with only a few paint spots on her shorts. Sarah had paint in her red hair and all over her shirt. They looked happy...

" Muffin wasn't very happy with us that day." Abbie giggled and motioned to the older looking golden retriever which was more white than golden now as his coat was almost entirely covered in paint.

" He ignored us for three whole days after that...especially since we had to use a kiddie pool and a hose to get cleaned off..." Ella said before laughing a little.

" That was a fun day..." Abbie said before her smile faded and she sighed quietly.

Catherine awkwardly patted Abbie's back, trying to comfort her.

Abbie gave Catherine a grateful smile before pulling yet another photo out of the box.

" Uh...not sure if you want this or not Jessica....but....here..." Abbie said awkwardly handing the picture to her friend.

Jessica's cheeks turned dark crimson and her eyes held sadness.

" Woah, woah, woah, is that....Sarah and....you?" Catherine gasped as she stole the picture from Jessica.

The picture was of Ella, Abbie, Leah, Jessica and Sarah at an ice cream shop together. They looked around fourteen but that wasn't the strange part of it. Sarah had her lips pressed against Jessica's cheeks while Jessica blushed. Jessica's hair was simply blonde and had no blue in the ends, she also had her long hair in a ponytail and wore thin rimmed black glasses.

Leah sat behind them with a dreamy expression, her black hair hung down to her waist and she wore a dark purple sweatshirt. Ella had whipped cream on her nose and was laughing as Abbie had a weird expression on her face.

" We dated for a while...we actually only broke up...three years ago...when she started to only care about popularity..that was about a month after this photo was taken....she really hurt me back then." Jessica explained bitterly.

" Oh...I never knew." Catherine murmured while Leah looked over her shoulder with a disgusted expression, seemingly disgusted at her own appearance in the photo.

" So what's with Abbie's expression?" Catherine questioned curiously.

" She had a brain freeze." Leah muttered making Catherine jump a little since Leah was right behind her.

" Ooooh, okay." Catherine said after she regained her composure.

" And...that's it I suppose except thi...." Jessica went deathly silent and picked up a small box, opening it gingerly to reveal a silver chained necklace that had a little camera pendant.

" What is it?" Catherine questioned curiously.

" Is that...that necklace you got her for valentines day like...five years ago?" Ella asked with a surprised expression.

" Yeah...it is." Jessica murmured, clutching the box tightly in her hand.

" Want me to put it on you?" Abbie asked quietly.

Jessica wiped away the tears that were trying to form in her eyes and closed the box quickly.

" No. It's fine." She said quietly and sat the box down on the table with a soft breath.

" Alright....well we should get ready to go...we've only got like two hours.." Catherine said quietly.

" Yeah...good idea." Abbie said before closing the large box.

💀🔪

Booming music echoed through the dark parking lot making Leah groan quietly as the group walked towards the school.

" Oh don't be a party pooper, Leah....it'll be fun!" Abbie said as they all stopped in front of the loud highschool to wait for their partners.

Leah shrugged silently before crossing her arms over her chest.

" It's cold out here tonight." Abbie said rubbing her arms quickly to create friction.

" Is it? I didn't notice." Leah murmured, a gust of wind picked up making her short hair fluff back a little before returning back to its normal style

The other's exchanged glances before returning their gazes to the approaching figures in the distance. One was a girl around their age, she was wearing a fluffy pink dress and sneered at them as she walked past with her date.

Jessica flipped her off with a kind smile before rolling her eyes.

Ella giggled quietly and smiled when she saw her boyfriend approaching in the distance. The two had decided to go with beauty and the beast themed prom outfits. Him wearing a blue tuxedo and his dark brown hair combed back a little, he had also traded in his glasses for contacts. Ella wore an elegant yellow prom dress and had her long hair pulled back and curled, she also traded in her glasses for contacts.

" Have fun...but not too much fun." Jessica winked making Ella blush before she was escorted into the highschool.

Abbie and Jessica exchanged glances and smirked at each other.

Catherine's boyfriend Kaden walked towards then with a smile, he was wearing a gray tuxedo with a violet tie to match Catherine's violet dress.

The dress had a sparkly top with one sleeve. She also had diamond earrings and a white lace choker. Her hair was in an elegant bun and was braided down the side, there was also a baby's breath hair clip holding the braid together.

Kaden smiled and offered his arm to her which she took and the two walked into the highschool.

Jessica sighed lightly and leaned against the wall, crossing her bare arms over her chest.

The soft silk fabric of her dress billowed in the wind, her arms spreading with goosebumps.

" Abbie!" Brandon called, jogging over to where they stood. He was wearing a black tux with a tie that matched the color of Abbie's dress.

" Hey." Abbie smiled cheerfully and blushed as he placed a kiss on her forehead.

" I'm glad I made it....you look amazing." Brandon smiled and handed her a dark pink corsage.

Abbie was wearing a fancy dark pink and black top that cut away at the stomach. Her skirt was a soft silk like fabric and was held up by black elastic at the top. Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail and was curled slightly.

" Thank you..." Abbie said shyly.

" No problem, babe." Brandon smiled, taking her hand and leading her into the highschool.

Leah and Jessica awkwardly exchanged glances before Jessica shrugged and offered Leah her hand.

Leah cocked an eyebrow and stared at Jessica's hand for a while.

" I like your dress." Jessica said before putting her hands into the pockets of her dress.

Jessica's dress was a black and had low shoulder sleeves, she also had a sparkly belt like section across the waist of her dress. Her hair was curled and rested across her shoulder, a baby's breath clip holding her hair together. She also wore a soft black silk choker and a charm bracelet that had a guitar and a paw print on it.

Leah wore a less formal dress that ended just above her knees in the front and the back hung just above her ankles. She wore see through black leggings and black fishnet gloves. She also had ankle high boots with a black necklace.

" Thanks..." Leah said quietly before retreating into the highschool.

Jessica let out a soft breath and followed the girl silently.

💀🔪

Loud techno music and flashing lights erupted throughout the gym of the highschool. Teenagers danced around each other with seemingly no care for personal space.

Leah and Jessica lingered near the back of the gym with bored expressions. While the other girls danced with their dates, without a care in the world.

It wasn't exactly peaceful...but it got everyone's mind off of the events of the past month. Which was a good thing...but it wouldn't last...not even close...

The techno music changed to a slow song which brought a soft smile to Jessica's lips as she recognized the song. Her boyfriend Thomas would play this song on the guitar when they were together.

" May I have this dance?" A male's voice said, as he held out his hand to Jessica.

" Um I don't know...I have a boyfri....Thomas?" Jessica stopped suddenly and stared at the raven haired boy in front of her.

" Hey, love." Thomas smiled, helping her to her feet.

" You're here?! But how?!" Jessica gasped with a happy smile.

" I took the night off. I couldn't miss my girl's prom night now could I?" Thomas placed a soft kiss on Jessica's lips before leading her onto the dance floor.

Jessica simply smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.

" I missed you." She said softly.

" I missed you too." Thomas admitted before kissing her yet again.

The flash from a camera startled the two.

" That's going into the year book for cutest couple." The yearbook girl smiled sheepishly making Jessica blush.

" I TOLD YOU I WOULDN'T LET MY BEST FRIEND GO DATELESS! TONIGHT IS GONNA CHANGE OUR LIVES FOREVER!" Catherine giggled.

To be continued.
