Chapter 9
As a new day begins, Jennifer reminds herself that she has to tell the others about the Voice's warning. The first story they started narrating must be finished, or someone else might pay the price for not obeying an apparently simple command. Nonetheless, she, feeling groggy and not knowing where the others spent the night, decides that having breakfast is the priority.
As she walks down the aisle to get back to the living room, she's met by a happy Hayley and a sleepy Kaitlynn. She greets them, but only the former replies straight away. Kaitlynn, on the other hand, lets out a yawn, also stating, "What time is it? I mean, I could use some more sleep."
"There's no time for sleeping anymore, Kaitlynn," points out Jennifer. "We have a story to finish." The other girl, instead of paying attention to her, however, is tying her hair in a ponytail as she walks towards the kitchen. Hayley trails after her, whereas Jennifer stays behind, eventually slumping on a couch.
'The story must be finished.' The Voice's words keep echoing in her mind without letting her have a little break between a thought and another. Her head might explode at any time. She must tell the rest of the group the truth out before it's too late. She doesn't want to upset the Voice, not this time.

Surprisingly, the entire group is reunited in the boys' room instead of the kitchen. This is all because of Kane, who insists that they all strategize in order to avoid further losses. Before he can even explain his plan, however, Jennifer intervenes, "Last night, the Voice called me out and gave me instructions."
"That's why I couldn't find you all night!" exclaims Lindsey. "You made me worry, Jenn, you know?" Unfortunately, her reaction earns her nothing but a snort and a frown from Leah, another yawn from Kaitlynn, who's clearly affected by the lack of proper sleep, and shrugs from the boys with the exception of Myles. He, indeed, is too busy making out with Kelsie.
Seeing the general distraction, Jennifer clears her throat. "Now, listen carefully. Do you remember the first story we told?" Everyone shakes their heads, which prompts her to add more details. "The one where Candice cut herself off and then got washed away?" This time, everyone is able to recall that moment.
"Oh, I remember," comments indeed Maisy. "The story about the girl who has to defeat this mysterious entity, right, like the Voice?" The boys nod, followed by Jennifer and Lindsey.
The blue-haired girl reprises talking. "Yes, that. The Voice told us to finish it. If we don't, whoever sulks or fails to give it a proper ending by the end of the day will end up like Candice or Whitney." The thought of disappearing in the vacuum makes most of the girls shake, especially Hayley. The fact that no-one knows what happened to Candice and Whitney makes things even creepier.
However, there's no time for being scared. It's time to defy fate, and the only way to do so is keep that story going until it's over. Hopefully, the Voice will be more understanding and finally let go of them. If only it wants.

After a short recap of the previously narrated events, Hayley decides to take turns first, much to everyone else's surprise. "The story must go on, as the Silencer says, or everyone will be washed away. This is the motto. But the encrypted book contains a riddle that must be deciphered so that the story can continue." Everyone else stares at her confusedly. No-one seems to have understood her narration, much to some of the girls' annoyance.
Lindsey intervenes, "Carole and her friends spend a sleepless night trying to make up theories about where the book comes from. It might be a gift from the Silencer or, why not, a curse. It might involve a treasure hunt or something like that. However, time will be up by the time they find the truth out. So, what can they do to put an end to the Silencer's fury?"
"In order to avoid being cursed, they must take their chances and be smart. They must find their time to decipher the mysterious code and tell the Silencer an entertaining story at the same time. It's not easy, but it's definitely something that's up to their skills." Even Keaton's take on the story is deemed to be confusing, to the point that Leah rolls her eyes and lets out a groan. "Can we get this done quickly?" she asks, much to the boys' annoyance.
"Yes, we can, but everyone is supposed to contribute, Leah!" points out Keaton, dribbling her boisterous remark and her icy glare. She frowns but he doesn't relent. Tension raises as the situation is made even worse when another thud echoes through the room.
"Okay, maybe we should set our differences aside and just move on," concludes Hayley, shaking as she hears one more noise coming from the window. She knows that she could've done a lot better, but, as long as she does her part, the Voice is pleased and she'll get to stay around a little longer.
"But-" Leah tries to object but is cut off by Keaton raising his right hand straight up to her mouth. "You have two choices, Leah. Either you shut up until your turn comes, or you'll tell the story next, okay?" In spite of his menacing tone, Leah doesn't relent and crosses her arms. She mutters, "You want me to tell the story? Fine! I'll do it!"
She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, trying hard not to ball her hands into fists. "As the morning comes, the group reunites for breakfast. Carole and her friends wants to discuss a strategy straight away but are stopped by Leni and Ricky pouting again. 'Not now, Carole! Let us at least have breakfast,' says Leni, much to the others' disdain."
Finally, the story seems to be in shape again. Leah raises her head and crosses her arms, frowning at the rest of the group. The girls ignore her, while Kayden tells her off, "Stop gloating, Leah. You didn't do anything special, remember." But she turns her back at him, making it clear that she doesn't want to listen to him.
"Who goes next?" asks Jennifer, trying to ease tension a little bit. What's sure, anyway, is that the story must have an ending. The Voice isn't willing to wait that much, and time is passing slowly but inevitably.
No-one answers, though, which makes the tension raise again. A soft breeze is hitting the window, as well as the girls' faces. There's no more time to waste.
Out of a sudden, Leigh raises her hand, volunteering to go up. "I have an idea to make it a lot more interesting," she states with a smirk, causing everyone to approach her, struck by curiosity.
The stakes are high. No more mistakes are allowed since now.
