Memories
"Hey, Scott?"
I turn. "What is it?"
He rubs his arm, a frown across his face. "What would of you done if - if I hadn't of remembered?"
I shift over to face him. "I'd remind you."
He grins. "Heh."
The sun was stretching over the ocean, and the clouds had parted just in time for the sunset. "Can I stay over tonight?"
"Don't you have errands and stuff?"
I grin. "Yep. But they can wait." I lean back, enjoying the suns final rays. "I'll attend to them tomorrow."
"Alright."
The winds are blowing harshly outside, and as Jim's sunken eyes start to close, the fierce light flares up, keeping us both awake. Reaching over to him, tears begin to swell up in my eyes. This is disastrous.
"You should leave."
I pull back. "What do you mean!?" Tears are streaming down his face. "Go."
"Why!?" I shake him. "Who'll look after you!? You look awful!"
"I can take care of myself. And anyway, I'm just keeping you up."
I shake harder. "NO. You're in no state to be by yourself!"
He shakes his head. "We both know what's happening to me. I don't want to hurt you."
His eyes seem to lose their brightness with each word. I shake. "You could never hurt me."
"Yes I could!" He bolts upward. "I just want you to be safe!"
I stand. A cold shiver runs through me. "Fine. I'll check on you in the morning."
As I walk off, the red glow remains in his little house. I hope nothing goes wrong...
