Chapter 5
Emilia's thoughts controlled her mind. I faked my own death, and it wasn't my choice. I was in surgery, and I was dead for 10 minutes. My mother hated me, because I was better than her at the violin. I beat her in the world record for the Most Skilled Violinist. So, she killed me, giving me some sort of drug in the medicine that they used in the surgery. But somehow, I survived. She bribed the doctors into giving me an official death certificate. So yes, I am dead, but she doesn't know that I run my own YouTube channel, and I am still known as the World's Most Skilled Violinist. They agree to let me do shows in the orchestra because they told Anthony to not let any high officials into the concerts, only city people were allowed, all because of me. Because I couldn't be the best. No one could know that I, Emilia Harper, am the World's Most Skilled Violinist. She thought this over and over again, she couldn't get it out of her mind.
"Is it my fault? It probably is..it always is..I can never do anything without my mother having to be better..I just didn't know it would mess up my whole life!" She cried out into the wind. No one was around, the only thing keeping her company was the cherry blossom trees. She looked down at the ground. She looked into a puddle, seeing her reflection in it. She sighed, stepping in it. "No one can know.." She said, darkly.
After that whole ordeal, she ran to orchestra practice, her violin on her back. She greeted a few familiar faces. Melody came up to her. "Hiya hiya! I'm so excited for you!" She hugged Emilia. Emilia gradually pushed her off. "Why?" "BECAUSE YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED TO ANTHONY! See? I told you that you would like him!" She stuck out her tongue. Emilia sadly looked to the window. Somehow, she saw Joseph's face in the window, smiling at her, even though he wasn't there. Please don't forget me, okay? Joseph's words echoed throughout her mind over and over again. "Emilia..?" Melody asked. Emilia sobbed a bit. "I don't want to talk right now.." Melody huffed and ran over to her other friends.
Emilia couldn't stop thinking about him. That feeling with him, the way he held her hand. She didn't love Anthony. She loved Joseph. She set up her violin for practice, and then Anthony came into the studio. "Hello there, my bride-to-be!" He greeted, a smirk on his face. Emilia looked up at him with red, puffy eyes. "G-Go away..is it not enough I am being forced to marry you?" She snapped. Anthony lifted up her chin. "You should be nice to your future husband, he could easily hit you." Emilia's eyes widened. Anthony walked over to his place and began to compose the orchestra group. Emilia played along halfheartedly. She wanted to leave, she wanted to crash through the window and leave.
After practice was over, Emilia hurriedly packed up her things and started to run out the door. Anthony grabbed her wrist, hurting her. Emilia winced and was taken back by him. She turned around. "If you love me, let me go." She commanded. (Hehe Panic! At The Disco reference) Anthony kept holding onto her. "You can't run away forever, Emilia." He let go of her. Emilia ran out of the studio, her hair flowing in the wind. After she was in her neighborhood, she dropped to her knees. She couldn't move. Her thoughts and emotions had taken over her body. She out her violin next to her, not moving. Rain started to pour down on her. She didn't care. She just sat there, staring at the wind. She started crying. She normally never cried, but lately, she couldn't hold it in.
Joseph looked out his window and saw Emilia sitting on the road. He ran outside, taking his jacket off. He wrapped Emilia around in it. "Em! Em! Can you hear me?" He shouted. No response. Emilia just stared down, not even looking him in the eye. She couldn't bear to look him in the eye. Joseph just hugged her tightly, getting wet himself. "You're not okay. What's happening?" He asked. Emilia didn't reply. Joseph let go and picked her up, carrying her in one arm and carrying her violin in the other. He sat Emilia down on his couch, wrapping her in a blanket. He set her violin down gently, sitting next to Emilia. He took her hands in his. "Em..you haven't been acting like yourself lately..is everything alright?" He asked.
Emilia finally looked up at him. "I can't tell you.." She whispered. Joseph was taken aback. "Why? I thought I was your friend. You can tell me anything." He pleaded with her. "I know..and I will, I just can't tell you this.." Joseph squeezed her hand, looking into her eyes. "Please, Emilia..I want you to trust me. Do you trust me?" Emilia didn't reply. He lifted up her chin. "Do you trust me?" He repeated, looking directly in her eyes. Emilia just nodded her head, tears forming in her eyes. "Yes..I do.." "Then tell me." Emilia sighed. "I-I..." She broke down, and she started sobbing. She couldn't explain without crying. Joseph just hugged her. "Shh..it's okay, it's okay, I'm here now, I've got you. There's nothing to be afraid of." Emilia felt so calmed when she was with him. I wish I could marry you instead.. Emilia sat up straight, and looked at Joseph. "It's not easy to tell..I can't even tell myself without crying." She admitted. Joseph looked at her. "Well, would this make it easier?" He leaned in and kissed Emilia. Emilia's eyes widened. They both pulled back. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to calm you down." He giggled. Emilia smiled for the first time in a while. "It worked.." She said, steadily.
Joseph blushed and chuckled. "O-Okay good!" He looked into her eyes again. "Now, can you tell me?" Emilia decided to give in to him. "I have to marry Anthony." Joseph seemed crushed and heartbroken. "You..you're getting m-married?" He stuttered softly. Emilia nodded. Joseph covered his mouth. "I wouldn't have done that if I had known! Why did you let me!?" He cried. Emilia looked down. "Because I don't want to marry him.." She said. Joseph was utterly confused. "Then why are you?" He asked. Emilia looked up at him with big, sad eyes. "I don't have a choice!" She cried. Joseph gasped. "Why not?" She couldn't tell him this part. "M-My parents are forcing me to." She lied. Joseph hugged her tightly. "I'm so sorry..does this mean we can't be friends anymore?" He asked, sadly. "No, of course not, we can still be friends..just nothing more." Emilia replied, just as sad. Joseph nodded, his dreams crushed. He had planned on asking Emilia out on a date. That plan was long gone now.
"You better get going, Emilia, but please, take this." Joseph handed Emilia a jacket and a picture. It was of them in the park, smiling. Emilia smiled as she looked at the picture. She held it close to her heart. "Thank you." She hugged Joseph one last time. She grabbed her violin and put on the jacket he gave her. "Joseph.." She called out. Joseph got up and stood over her. "Yes?" Emilia gathered up the courage to say it. "I love you." Emilia quickly ran out the door, to her own house.
Joseph looked at her run, tears streaming down his face. "I love you too." He sobbed, falling on his knees.
