THE VILLAGE | An Avatar The Last Airbender Fanfiction

(I'm discontinuing those aesthetics I did cuz they diminished my will to update this book, also hi, it's been a long while)

Well, jeeze Hama turned out to be a nightmare. At first, everyone took what she gave them, willingly. But Sokka stood strongly by his suspicions and made them into everyone else's. Long story short, Hama was from the southern water tribe, Katara and Sokka's home. Later, everyone found her to be a waterbender which momentarily shocked everyone's eery feelings about the woman away. She'd taken to teaching Katara some valuable moves and the group had left them to it. But she'd turned out to be on the less than stable side.

A lot had happened and Adeline was doubtful of everything. Her training was going great including all spiritual aspects but that wasn't why she was worried. The day of black sun was upon then. Her mind was clouded with plans and things to remember. Stay loose, stay on your feet and keep fighting. Don't lose your head. It all made sense but she wanted to just jump off a cliff. Her airbending had improved greatly and she saw that in the way Aang had been looking less worked every time she tried a move.

The cliff was full of greenery. Adeline favoured these sort of places. they relaxed her, helped her focus more. Aang slept peacefully nearby on one of the cosiest beds she'd ever seen. He'd had some trouble sleeping the day before and everyone had gone to some extensive amounts of trouble to calm him down. Appa lay on his side off to Adelines left, letting out low but forceful breaths every few seconds. Momo curled around Adeline's feet and rested his head on Tophs. Sokka's maps scattered the ground in front of him, nearly off the cliff entirely. The boy rubbed his temples in concentration, mulling over everything. Adeline sucked in some air, trying to clear her head. Now was the time to go over everything. stay calm. They'd be invading the literal fire nation today. It was a big deal.

Katara lay a hand on Sokka's tense shoulders, handing him a bit of water. everyone turned as Aang popped into view. "Top of the morning Momo."He chimed as the lemur hopped onto his shoulder, startling Adeline out of her relaxed state.

"sounds like you slept well" Katara chirped as she stood up, leaning to the side.

"Like a baby moose lion," he replied, proudly. "I'm ready to face the Firelord."

The monk squared up, momo circling his shoulders. "so what's your strategy for taking him down? going to get your glow on and hit him with a little avatar state action?" Toph questioned, motioning punching and wiggling her fingers. Toph faced away from him, eyes to the ground. the girl looked relaxed and unbothered by the events to proceed later. If anything, it seemed like any other day by everyone's usual attitudes. Something about the fresh air, Adeline thought.

"I cant. When Azula shot me with lightning, my seventh chakra was locked, cutting off my connection to all the cosmic energy in the universe." he sighed. Adeline turned to Aang with a frown. inwardly, the images of the fightback in Ba Sing Se flashed wildly. The boy in front of her falling to the ground, plummeting. Adeline standing idle by. she wasn't able to do anything then, but it was different now, she'd be able to help. she could fight. Aang's eyes hit the ground. However selfish it was, Adeline looked forward to this fight, to finally be able to display her skills, she longed for validation from her teacher.

Toph lifted a hand to imitate a mouth talking, timing it with her sarcastic comment. "you know what I just heard? Blah-Blah spiritual mumbo jumbo, blah-blah something about space."

Adeline elbowed Toph playfully. "Hey, it's not all mumbo jumbo." she defended, upturning Aang's frown slightly before she leaned into her friend's ear. "just about 99%percent of it." She whispered, making toph giggle. If she were being truthful, she did think spirituality was important, more than most. but pretending, like she didn't, could just be so much fun and made her seem like less of a nag.

Everyone looked up as the sky's darkened. Moments ago, Adeline could hear the birds chirping and smell the grass sticking into the souls of her feat. Now, it seemed as if the personification of darkness itself decided to drop bye. A mist glazed over the team's eyes, allowing them to see no further than the direct cut off point between the cliffs edge and imminent death. "Oh, no." from Katara. "Sokka, do you think the fog will delay the invasion?" She asked, worriedly.

Her brother's eyes widened. "No, that is the invasion!" he called with a smile.

Adeline peered over their silhouettes, spotting a mass of boats headed their way. Everyone raced to the water's edge and waited slowly. She watched everyone's back profiles with a smile. They all looked happy and that made her profoundly proud to be standing to there with such great people. A pang. And then another. Her heart stung as she remembered who she would most likely meet on her mission to defeat the fire nation. Zuko.

It had been days since she had properly formed an image of the boy in her mind. Maybe he looked older, the same. She shouldn't have cared, but she did, she was curious and curiosity always gets the better of people. If the others could hear her thoughts now, they'd probably call her sick. Zuko was bad, the son of the Firelord. Was it wrong that thinking back on those short moments she shared with him, she shivered? Shut up Adeline, get your head in the game!
She hated Zuko. She hated the fire nation. She hated all evil like she did hell and that meant those infected with it also. She needed to aid the world, they needed to be rid of these horrific issues. War, death, life, it hung on their shoulders heavily.

Toph and Aang stepped up to the shore to make little ports for the water tribe boats to anchors themselves beside. Water splashed under the immense weight and buoyancy of the boats as everyone ran along the edges of the long earth walkways. Everyone watched as familiar face after familiar face descended the stairs of each boat and revealed themselves. Adeline only knew a few from her days spent on the fire navy boat, post earth kingdom downfall but then again none of them had spoken much. They congregated in small groups all around the large bay. High canyon-like walls surrounded them and hopefully concealed what they were doing. "Hi, Katara" A male voice called. The small group of four turned their heads. Sokka was over with Hakoda strategizing so that left Toph, Katara, Adeline and Aang to stare blatantly at a teenage boy as he walked up to them. He had long brown hair and had tied it back into a neat bun. His sallow earth kingdom complexion complimented his attire and matched a pointed moustache and goatee.

Katara ran forward and engulfed the boy in a hug. "Haru, it's so good to see you!" She said.

Aang guided Toph and Adeline forward and waved a hand in Haru's direction. "Toph, Adeline, this is Haru. When we met him, his town was controlled by the fire nation" the monk explained. "So we had to hide his earth-bending."

Haru nodded. "Katara inspired me and my father to take back our village" He announced.

An elderly man stepped up, behind the pair as Katara blushed heavily. He was balding on the top of his head but the rest of his grey hair reformed around his mouth as a beard and the back of his head. The man who was seemingly Haru's father placed two hands on the teen's shoulders. "you helped us find our courage, Katara. Now we're here to help you"

Adeline stepped around Toph. "Wow, you must have helped a lot of people" she whispered in awe to Katara and Aang. They both looked a tad uncomfortable.

"well, no, yes... It was a circumstance" Katara imputed.

Aang frowned. "and your determination."

Katara was prepared to argue but Toph jumped with wide yes. "No way is that--" she began, putting her arms out, defensively. Adeline swirled around hands also out. A large toddler-like man suddenly trapped Toph from under her armpits. She flailed under his grasp and he pulled the girl into a one-way hug.

"Hippo happy to see blind bandit!" He declared like a very small child. Adeline's head tilted. Hippo was a really good fit.

Toph's shoulders tensed, squaring up. "you here for a rematch?" she yelled.

A buff man behind 'Hippo' crossed his arms. "Negatory. The boulder and the Hippo no longer fight for others entertainment. Now, we fight for our kingdom!" 'the boulder' told her.

Adeline couldn't see Toph's face but the earthbender smiled widely. "Sweet!"

The man placed her down and Adeline wandered up to her, expecting a short backstory. A lot of things needed explaining, a lot. The little assembled army ducked as a rather minimalistic explosion went off atop one of the anchored boats. The boats were mostly wooded brown bar the sail which displayed waterfront colours. Some smoke billowed to the air as the people around Adeline straightened. Adeline ran forward surrounded by some other acquaintances and rand to the bottom of that particular boat's stairs. She peeped around Aang's shoulder. Although he was shorter than her, Momo taking refuge of his brown head of hair made it difficult for her to see.

A boy in a wheelchair of sort flew down the stair followed by some others. "was that a new invention?" Sokka asked, curiously from behind Adeline. She hadn't noticed it before then, but there were a varied large amount of people. It seemed fit for an invasion but she couldn't believe just how prepared they were.

"yes" An older man replied, rubbing the back of his neck. This must have been the inventor Aang had told her about one time. One time while training, he went through the air temples and their spiritual significance to airbenders. These refugees had remodelled one into a new home and got into some trouble with the Fire Nation which forced the gang to get involved. To think, while they were on all these crazy adventures, she was still stuck in the village. Pang. There it was again, that draining exhaustion she felt every time she had to think about Zuko's betrail, his existence. If not for him, she wouldn't be there, helping today. God, why couldn't she shut her thoughts up!

The man walked up behind his son in the wheelchair who was proudly licking peanut butter off his fingers. "but unfortunately, the incendiary capabilities of peanut sauce proved to be a failure." -scrap that, peanut sauce.

"you're making peanut sauce bombs?" Sokka interrogated, his mouth hung open.

Pipsqueak and the Duke stepped out from behind the scientist also covered in peanut sauce. "they're destructive!" Pipsqueak reflected in a deep voice.

"and delicious!" The duke remarked with a laugh as the two best friends licked all of the sauce off of their face. Sokka stepped up to the mechanic man with spiked black hair and began discussing invasion plans. Adeline knew the younger boy"s name who sat in the wheelchair because of Aang's intuition.

"Aang!" The boy said. Teo reached to the side of his chair and picked up a long wooden stick lined with indents. He held it out carefully as Aang took it with a grin. Adeline immediately recognized what it was.

The sides folded out revealing blue wings along with small tail ones near the bottom. "A new glider!" Aang exclaimed examining the sleek exterior of the model. "This is amazing!"

The mechanist stepped forward, proudly and pointed to the top of the contraption where two handlebars stuck out either side. "and as a special feature I added a snack compartment"  He twisted the handle and some nuts fell into his mouth.

"oh well, I'm sure that will come in handy" Aang reassured the man.

The ensemble of people dispersed as the monk turned to Adeline. "Sucks that you don't have one. It's just, if we had known sooner we could have got you one but I... I'm sorry. You'll still be able to fight though, your training has been paying off" he rambled.

Adeline put a hand on his shoulder to silence him. "Aang, everything's fine. I don't need a glider. Remember what I showed you on the hill a while back?" He nodded earnestly. "Yeah well... I've been working on it and now I don't turn over in the air, not as much anyway. What I'm trying to get at is, you're the one facing the Firelord, not me, so a glider isn't going to make my envy spike"
